Melee classes, especially ones that rely on damage reduction rather than evasion need resistance to these two stats/curses.
It can make the later part of runs nearly completely unplayable as a solo melee character with no high damage ranged spell attacks. The berserker in particular becomes an almost worthless hit and run character who's constantly blinded and silenced. (Feels like the beserker's low health ups chances of being effected even more.)
Having it scale off of elemental resistance, be a new resistance or a new stat on armor and items with some new trinket buffs would all be fine.
