I've hosted a server like this a few years back and learned a few key lessons. The main idea is that we can tweak the material costs of certain items to prolong the game and give us additional reasons to farm resources.
The base line is: No map, except with cartography table, and the ingredients for the cartography table will be made significantly more rare. You can carry those ingredients on you, but doing so will take up a good amount of inventory spaces and will constitute most of your carry weight capacity. In my previous iteration the ingredients required were:
6 Neck Trophies
30 Fine Wood
30 Berries
30 Mushrooms
30 Blue Berries
30 Deer Hide
30 Boar Scraps
This worked fairly well, but if anything, these were too easy to make, and effectively made it so that you could basically bring a cartography table with you anywhere. I'm looking to require more rare ingredients that make this more difficult to acquire and make us wait until sometime in the Swamp.
The next key items is the portal. I'm looking to make portals extremely rare and require an intensive investment in acquiring resources to build.
Previously the ingredients were actually too difficult to acquire. Here's what the ingredients were:
20 Iron
50 Fine Wood
50 Grey Dwarf Eyes
20 Sertling Cores
1 Rancid Remains Trophy (Many servers never even have this drop)
2 Dragon Eggs
30 Deer Hide
30 Boar Scraps
So I'm looking for input on how to change the recipe list for Portals. Obviously the Rancid Remains Trophy is too rare.
I'd also like to change the ingredients on boats, and other traversal items.
