#Don't charge rake on money that doesn't go into the pot

In all poker games I've played so far, rake is only taken from the pot. So if for example there's a pot of 1k, someone bets 1k, and everyone folds, the rake would be 5% of 1k = 50, and not 5% of 2k.

This matters a lot when you are the biggest stack at the table. If I want to push everyone all-in, but I have 100k more than the other people at the table, shoving allin would guarantee me paying 5k extra in rake for no reason, and optimal play is manually counting out the chips that the second highest chipleader has, then betting exactly that. That's a lot of hassle and I can't do that in 20 seconds, also delays the game for other players.

I think it's more satisfying to move the stacks to the middle too, so current state of the game is a bit unfortunate.

Yes, veteran players will tell you not to overbet, as you’re paying rake unnecessarily. While it may be “satisfying“ to push all of your money in the middle, once you understand how the money flows, you can make better decisions 😉

Yes, I've been told that, I have the following issues with it however:

  1. All other poker sites do rake only on the pot, doing it on bets/raises as well departs from the standard and will confuse people or piss them off
  2. If I want to go all in now I have to track the largest amount of chips on the table, then quickly stack up that many chips. If the stacks involved are larger, I can't do that in however much time I have left after making my decision.

I can't really see any reason for why it should work the way it's currently implemented either

Thanks for sharing further! Rake is taken as a percentage of the total pot before going to players, and therefore if you shove all in with overbet, it's still counted as part of the total pot, even though you get an "overbet" kind of "win" back.

While you're here, there'a a few open suggestions that are semi-related you might want to go into and leave ideas and thoughts on, which are subsets of things you've mentioned:

Thanks for the links, I've joined in on those. As for an overbet being counted as part of the total pot, that's exactly the thing all poker sites I've played on before do differently. Any overbet never enters the pot, as the pot is shared undecided money.

Can you please revisit this suggestion? As OP said, in all of online poker, there is no rake taken of uncalled bets. This should be the same here.
