Needing 8 stacks is a pain against good players
They just back up and if you chase and don’t succeed you completely destroy your mana pool

You have luck that you didn't saw what they did to Crunch, the change was so bad that, thankfully, they ended up reverting the changes
About Shinbi, what they made her a dumb proof character, she is now worse in 1vs1, as her ult is atrocious to use, but in team fight you basically get free multi target ults by the face with 0 efforts, so basically you enter in the middle of the enemies, press all the buttons, then press R and you get full stack ult on 3-4 enemies, doing massive damage with no effort or skill
