I mean... they did advertise that dust 2 was one of their "no changes" maps

But I think thatās because itās like one of the maps they made from the ground up

I just don't believe valve would go to the effort of making new models and then do this to the textures
especially considering how big of a deal skins are for the game
they could've just left them the same
but even the albedo is different
to be frank I'm not sure how much of this is just the usual "this update changed how some things look" even though the current stuff honestly looks fine. Like I wouldn't complain about more detail, but if you weren't actively comparing the two models / if the newer stuff came out in a fresh IP today, I wouldn't expect many complaints about it

I've always liked the idea of procedurally generated pvp shooters
like imagine a battle royale where the terrain is all new and you also need to explore
really cool evolution from that procedural aim map he did
actually considering opening up cs:go just to play it...
but the thing regarding cs2 is disappointing
I definitely can see how changing from squirrel to lua can be daunting, since rewriting an entire massive gamemode from in a different language would be... hell
not to mention other limitations
honestly the biggest limitations with vscript is direct interface with the player
there's no way to see what buttons are pressed, only specific actions, there's no way to edit the hud
its extremely frustrating
doing anything outside of simple gimmicks to things that aren't players quickly becomes a very slippery slope of the limits of the engine

i at least understand why lightmaps in some places are a bit low quality

there clearly is some on it, but it doesn't smooth out jagged edges caused by low res shadows

it honestly reminds me a lot of how lightmap filtering is done in source 1
where it just takes the direct neighboring luxels to blend with and completely ignores diagonals

which i guess makes sense if you're trying to get better framerates on older consoles, but at this point if source 2 still uses linear filtering for lightmaps i think thats a bit dumb
of course, I can't really tell for sure, I don't have access to an S2 game
i also have no clue how other engines do it, but at this point i bet its probably at the very least bilinear
all are dynamic shadows iirc, just encoded with lightmap data as well to mix

plus i only play on linux
idk what drugs valve is on
Besides that using proton gave me pretty bad fps (by csgo standards)
Like game was struggling to reach 150 fps even with everything set to low besides antialiasing. And I have a 5800H + 6600M so yeah
probably wine related issues but ehh ill just wait for their native client (but again it doesn't seem so since it was also pretty literally maxing out my 100W TGP so couldn't be a possible CPU bottleneck)

Basically Source 2 adds the potential for some really really good looking custom maps in CS2
Like back when I used to map for source 1 I attempted to create this map with a really cool neon aesthetic and reflective surfaces and shit and found it pretty hard to get it to look how I wanted it to look
Like honestly lighting and reflections were basically my biggest love in graphics
In Source 2 this would be way more possible due to better textures and lightings and all the new things they have added (emmisive materials and other shit whose names i don't remember but know what they do). Especially with the fact that hammer can now give you real time lighting.
Like just simply imagine Nevermore 2 Dust 2 reskin for CS2. That would be crazy.

Not only could it identify cheats but it can technically fingerprint a persons gameplay behaviour to actually track possible smurf accounts etc

no, that wont be the case since the ordering information would still improve things no matter how many usercmds the client is able to send under constrained performance

if you mean stuff like bad connections, or slow connections, then this wont change things much, because the traffic is just slightly larger than source 1, and you would already have a very bad experience if a single packet is dropped in any case, and 128 tick would increase network load the same way as this system
its not hard to run a wire through the edges of the rooms up to your computer and fix 90% of network issues
like: if you have 90 fps in CSGO and you are in a 128 tick server, you are still only sending 90 usercmds per second, im pretty sure

then you hold down D to move right, tap X and then release D, you will keep moving right
as in, the game now seems to remember what command activated +right and you can have 2 commands doing +right at the same time, instead of just 1 -right negating everything like it is in CSGO and TF2

valve is against 128 ticks because:
- it uses too much network traffic
- the FPS target is 60fps (including in Valorant)
- it increases server cost significantly
- there is no need for total simulation accuracy vs. continuous input sampling. just reducing the discrete sampling window is a workaround, not a solution.
