his latest 1:30 hour rant can be summed up as "there's no real argument against quickplay" and that the term quickplay was poisoned to mean something bad (by his own admission it might be his reputation) and that all valve needs to do is make their servers viewable on the server browser and basically return ad-hoc connections without calling it quickplay.
his stated reason why current state of casual is bad is insanely long queue times, non functioning autobalance and disabled team scramble which all have to do with the matchmaking server and sbmm system being insanely overloaded
which results in you quing for 5-10 minutes at peak hours, being dropped into half empty servers which end in 2 minutes or less.

Yeh. Thats pretty much the only situation I see adhoc connections really having a meaningful impact on individual player’s experiences.
You can just directly connect to the single map you want to play.
There’s also the argument that you could probably connect to your friends faster that way, but it’s less of a problem now since recent updates sped that up with the party system.

Experimented with adding HRTF to the audio engine in the TF2 SDK. There is some minor audio popping, but this is likely my fault due to mixing imprecision
still need to do some work on the mixing as its rough but the concept works
the only positive I can see is that since we have the sdk now we could hopefully continue playing on some community maintained version of tf2, hopefully
that's assuming that valve doesn't cease and desist these mods after the release of "team fortress 3" like they did with classic offensive

Didn’t really make it any harder to use in standard 12v12 tbh. IMO it was a good example of a nerf executed reasonably.
Weapon showed it could be used in unintended ways and valve nerfed the unintended playstyle while leaving the intended use virtually untouched.
There’s better examples of shit nerfs, I think sandman was one of them.
Took a weapon, and weapon combo, with a problematic mechanic and replaced it with a dysfunctional mechanic and removed the weapon combo that was widely cherished. Essentially removing the weapon from the game.
Bison is another example of Valve nerf logic, but I’m convinced that it kinda just became a meme to nerf that weapon with every update.
Id deny that for the sake of you going to high into the air just spells your doom you will take damage from hitscan and have to live with rng fall damage to the floor you can still use it if you keep a distance to the floor to minimize fall damage but it neutered any other playstyle with it that still has equal tradeoffs
Though yes compared to sandman bison and other way worser nerfs it got off easier
Rng fall damage is usually marginal. If you’re a rocket jumping soldier it’s just something you accept whether you run parachute or not. If you don’t want to take fall damage and want to avoid being shot then you can just deploy it before you hit the ground and not float across the whole map like Marry Poppins.
Opening it at max height was never a smart move in casual but the people doing that can still do it. In comp it was a problem because with scouts and soldiers no one could really retaliate. Even in HL where you have people that can retaliate, demomen run it on upward offense to kill the sentry from the skybox before they can be punished.
It’s just now more committed to whatever you originally start doing, which I don’t hate.

I’d argue it got a little more finicky to use. If you’re used to hitting space everytime you rocket jump, grounded or not, then you’ll waste your parachute more than you would before. Or if you come from games with coyote time so you miss a jump input walking off a ledge, you’ll burn a parachute charge.
I think with a decade of hindsight, a better change would have been a cooldown of 1-2 seconds in parachute close / open.

I’ve played a couple of games in community competitive. IMO casual with friends is an easier transition to community competitive than OEM competitive to community competitive.

Obviously individual skill levels were different and with practice pro comms could be better. But for a weekend tournament real friends make better teams than misc pros IMO.

Soldier is a funny class. He’s really good if people don’t know how to play around him. If people know how to play around him he becomes very mid.

The best teams have an even balance of all classes, not just Snipers.
You will always need Medics, Heavies, Soldiers, and Demomen above Snipers, Spies or Engineers. In fact, teams should focus on having more of the active classes that can put up a fight before choosing to play the weaker, support classes that can't survive on their own.

like, when the server is full, several people could be trying to connect at once
a players leaves, and then every player joins at once, only one of them manages to enter and the other ones get the "server full" message
