I think the math saying that a majority of the player base is bots is wrong.
I always circle back to the question of motive. There’s not that many spin botters anymore and if people are still botting for scrap then it’s literally the least profitable allocation of resources. They’d be better off mining for bit coin (not that it’d be profitable either).
Either way 10k - 50k players is metric butt load of people so who cares if they’re bots or not.
For the first day that listen servers were made public by default the server browser was STUFFED with 1 player idle bot servers. They're just black boxes that deal 1hp of damage until you die. My guess is that they just never got the memo about bitcoins

I've tried dragging and dropping a demo file onto the exe similar to vpk.exe. I've also tried running it via console with the demo file as a commandline argument with output redirected to a file. Neither seemed to yield much success.

Any info. I'd like to get the map name. But if I can parse more info like map name, when the round starts, when points are scored, etc. I could find a use for that info.

there's some documentation at https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/DEM_(file_format) but if you're interested in parsing the format yourself you're better off reading the engine source code

Afterlife is straight up broken. Like not metaphorically broken... You can't end a round. You can't turn in stolen souls to the alter which seems to be the main mechanic and related to winning the round? It is legitimately broken.
Cowerhouse also seems kinda broken but it is mostly playable. The last control point has some stuff that messes with hit registration around it. It seems like the giant robot and prop stuff that comes up at the end of the round remain present in terms of collision with bullets and splash damage. So shooting someone on the point when you're off of it or visa versa just doesn't work 75% of the time.
The cosmetics, unusuals, and taunts seemed okay though.
Seems like those updates may have been fixed this evening. But those were my opinions from ~5pm EST today.

the shortcut from upward last spawn that closes after blue caps the second to last point.
It used to have an exploit where an engi could put a tele in there and then it’d be very difficult to destroy because it’s behind a door that only opens from the inside, so they added a nobuild there (and changed the behavior of them to destroy buildings inside of them when enabled) to fix it

iirc the answer is yes*******
if you remember when VSH launched, it was completely unplayable because the matchmaker didn't understand why the teams were the way they were, and because the server would just seemingly randomly change some server settings to match default casual stuff.
You can set the same settings that valve casual uses for the most part, but you can't really set up all the other random shit that their servers do to handle standard casual gameplay
in other words its basically impossible to test for how casual will support a map because it just does a lot of things that to my knowledge are not possible with just hosting your own server
if valve were to test a map by, for example, just booting up a server and having it exec server_casual.cfg, then they are not going through the casual system and probably don't have to deal with its AGGRESSIVE attempts to force servers to play its specific way, with specific settings, and handle matchmaking and map voting and all that jazz
afaik we don't really know how valve compiles community maps, but the fact that missing assets are just like... the standard now when an update launches definitely shows that the way they do it isn't working correctly
maybe its because one of the mappers forgot to send an asset, or maybe its due to some other weird thing, and let me tell you, making sure that your assets are all packed into a map is actually pretty fucking hard, or at least tedious
ideally you'd need to like, remove the content from your game's files (it needs to be there so you can, you know, put it in the map in the first place), then boot up your game, make sure you haev sv_pure 2 set, and then open up the map and make sure that everything is there
and/or, open up the map in VPKedit or gcfscape and manually take note of all the assets that are in the file structure and compare that to what it should be... which would require making a list of assets used but mappers should ideally have that anyway so they can credit people correctly
valve should have better systems and testing and shit than we do, but unfortunately not
and with how slow they merge in community changes, it seems like most of that is not going to change, even if it is fixable via the SDK (and many issues like map limits are deep in the engine itself and many probably won't change because then they'd need to write an entire backwards compatibility system to be able to support maps made before the changes)
it is a shame that this is the state of updates, because the majority of the tf2 community doesn't understand this, so it just reflects onto the people making the content, when its literally not even their fault

Well not sure. It's supposed to perfectly emulate tf2's movement
that has always been suspect for me, because there are so many little quirks and conflicting things that need to align for the more advanced tricks to work like expected
but I never tried it, so I can't really be criticizing it too much

yeah, iirc they use a function to get a sphere, but the sphere check by default just checks a cube because its supposedly faster (i kind of doubt this since iirc distance checks are faster, which is what sphere checks are, but whatever)

iirc the issue is with the CPhysicsTrace::IsBoxIntersectingCone function, which returns uninitialized stack data if the trace doesn't hit
you can see how tr is cleared here and passed into the constructor for CTraceSolver, which looks correct
but if you look at what CTraceSolver does, you can see that it stores the provided trace into a pointer, and copies it's own trace into the provided trace in DoSweep, overwriting the cleared trace.
and since m_trace is never initialized by the constructor, it falls to SweepSingleConvex to initialize it, which it doesn't do in certain codepaths
the reason it got "fixed" in the 64-bit update is that the stack data happens to be 0 where m_trace.startsolid is

normally replays are what you use to get other POVs. Competitive matches probably use something that lets them combine all POV demos into a single recording without using the replay system.
Or they record the match server side... is that what sourceTV is?
I doubt casual lets you record other POVs.
SourceTV can also record server-side demos that contain the whole game with all entities and events.
iirc there are some tricks you can do to load client demos in the replay editor and view other POVs, but they can only ever show what your client receives from the server.
and it seems like sourcetv is completely serverside; only accessible by admins and has to be ran before the map loads. Unless there is a way to tell the server to record the match and then give you the file it might be a dead end.

iirc from my excursions into demo parsing, STV demos are a special type of demo, they have a special flag either in the header of the demo’s data or in the signon packet.
You could maybe do some hacky shenanigans to view things like the movement of players other than the local player. Demos are essentially just an archive of all the packets the server sent the client while they were playing.
But I’m not sure if other players’ information is tracked in depth enough to have a meaningful POV extracted from your POV demo. Haven’t gotten that far into demo parsing to know that answer.

No the past couple weeks have been final project weeks for my C course. So I’ve been slammed with that.
My demo archiver and parser repo will probably be public by the second week of December and I’m aiming for Christmas for the official public release of the archiver.
The parser right now basically reads the signon packet and goes “okay thanks bye”, since that’s all I need for the archiver. I’ll probably do more with the parser after I release the archiver and deal with whatever patches and revisions come along with that.

i learned the game just fine from the tutorial and never needed help playing the game after playing the tutorial
keep in mind that the tutorial was added 2 years after pyro got a right click

It's outdated in the sense that the game theory has changed
tanking rocket damage is a very basic concept in TF2 now because of rampup
plus the trick with jumping reducing your damage taken
also point blank air blasting is pretty much impossible
Point blank reflects are possible. Just gotta predict the fire and airblast. What Pyro hasn't done that a bunch?
