I will try to get a clip soon but basically some audio just being delayed or not occurring at all
For instance I was playing pyro and my fire axe and flamethrower sounds were completely muted, as well as all saxton voicelines
hitsounds delayed by half a second or more inconsistently
snd_restart fixed the pyro bugs for a few minutes but not the saxton lines
uh, I haven't encountered anything like that.

what is the drama about the workaround to being able to load mods in casual servers? idk if is about this, i didnt understand very well
being able to load custom mods can potentially allow for undetectable wallhacks, louder decloak noises, etc.
due to the way the game loads assets, it usually requires different methods for different filetypes
in some cases, valve leaves these sv_pure bypasses alone, due to not having any negative effect
for example, the folder materials/vgui/thumbnails is where the game stores thumbnail files for replays, and it has a hardcoded exception to allow any files there through sv_pure. Due to the way that materials work in tf2, it doesn't cause any problems, because no files outside of the replay system ever check that filepath for materials, so it can't be used to overwrite any materials in the game for exploits
however, that folder is helpful for new materials, so hud makers often use it to add in new textures and icons for use with their hud
that workaround was discovered... honestly it could even be a decade ago at this point, and valve could've patched it out at any time, but they see it as not being a problem, so they've left it

It’s been discussed a lot. I don’t know if there have been any serious attempts though. I think once you’re deep enough down the vgui rabbit hole to want to do something like that, you have an developed such an intuition for sizing and positioning that a visual editor would slow you down.
To get around some of the logistical issues though, I’d probably just go the route of a general “vgui code generator”. Where it just generates a general element with the parameters you specify, and the user can put those parameters into a desired element if they had a specific one in mind. Rather than straight up generating the .res file. At least that’s made the most sense in my mind when I’ve toyed with the idea.
Though that also sorta makes the user base even more niche, as then someone has to have the knowledge to not just take the code and paste it in a specific element. So they need some competence in vgui but not enough proficiency to want to stay text-only.

Tf2 technically had a vgui build mode I think it’s called. That allows you to generate .res files. I’ve never messed with it but I think jofre has a fair amount experience with it, if you’re familiar with their huds.
thats fair tbh, altho personally for me i'm terrible at visualization, so sizing and positioning is not very easy for me. A lot of alt-tabbing out, changing a value, reloading the hud, etc. its pretty tedious for me. Just having a program where I can see the change as soon as i change the value would be nice, plus it'd be helpful for some of those stubborn values that only reload on restart

this is confusing to me because how do you, as a material developer, calculate edge softness based on the alpha of the outline that is based on the alpha of the image
