also the props just did not fit with the building materials

it just felt like more of a "fake" art style

like in lieu of an actual one, they just distorted everything to give it an identity even though that didnt really inform any actually interesting design

like whats the purpose of only the props being warbled?

the characters arent the same style as that, the walss, floors, etc are not like that

it was only the props with that weird texture/model distort

it made things look off and disjoint

TF2 for example, had a very distinct purpose for its art style, in every sense

the shading was made to make the characters distinct in combat

the color palettes gave players a sense of familiarity and direction, in addition to the different building styles of the two teams

but what does transform warping a bunch of props do for fortnite? it maybe makes things a little goofy feeling, but at the cost of so much

props couldnt be aligned properly unless you used special versions, the props didnt align correctly to the flat wall geometry, they had to have different shading vs. the rest of the game, the collision could be weird at times, and it just felt sorta like you were in a mirror funhouse with the props

it just felt really disjoint and weird

theres other ways to make the game feel cartoony and goofy

in fact, the warble effect you get when breaking walls, that would be nice to have on the props with more detail on the warble

they also got rid of the bounce LOD effect because of comp players early on

which IMO was a mistake

sure it made pop-in more noticeable but it made the world feel more alive and goofy in a more dynamic way

i have an amd gpu and im getting huge stuttering on fortnite performance mode

when i tried to record with xbox DVR i noticed the stuttering went away and my fps become unlocked, and my amd overlay also stopped working

dx12 also works fine but i need to turn everything to minimum AND use upscaling at 50% to get similar performance

video framerate is crap but you can see there's no stuttering and fps is at 400+

i also get this warning when playing in dx12 but it works fine, much better than performance mode

Adding bots is the absolute stupidest thing Fortnite has done

i think honestly turning fortnite from a game to a place where things happen killed off interest for it

because it turned into fatigue

something that used to be a grand spectacle everyone attended became a chore that people maybe watched after or read an article about

and so many things like that happened in fortnite

like just fatiguing things like that

oh new weapon

oh new map

oh OG

oh marvel

etc

the gimmick of fortnite became that they tried to have something blasted on news sites frequently

instead of being a good game that made good decisions on player retention and interest

they couldnt think outside of the box once they had a good idea

they just decided to build a bigger box

and while it still receives a lot of players, it isnt permeating through the culture anymore

and its limited its own growth

fortnite used to be about the new and interesting

now the very pattern of it coming up with new things has become methodical and samey

i feel like that era of fortnite completed concluded when they pulled their trump card with fortnite OG

and to just do it again... it doesnt make sense

also, fortnite/epic's model of break it then fix it is exhausting to players

everything changes every week

to a point where nothing feels deliberate or something you can invest time in

anything anyone might like gets reverted or completely changed erratically

it doesnt even feel like fresh moba balance

it feels like a developer wanting to give new things for the sake of it, but not sure how to make those things good enough for its playerbase

and now when i look at fortnite these days

all the trailers and such

new weapons, new mechanics

all i can think is

"is this really the best context for this mechanic?"

"is battle royale really the right format to be doing this?"

like this latest season trailer

with the katanas

wall jumps

boss fights

it really feels like epic is limiting themselves here

and yes, i am a bit sad that unreal tournament died

but it really does feel like epic is much better suited at crafting engagements tunnels rather than battle royale spaces

the best moments in fortnite battle royale were the head to head moments

everything else felt like a waste of time

id really like to see them make adversarial combat arenas again

much more constrained spaces

and imo, if people like the open world format of BR, i think that can still work

theres many aspects of it that are great

and i do think that reload made things better

but i think it doesnt go far enough

they really need to do better to design combat engagements that pit adversaries against each other

i think in that constrained design space, all of these cool mechanics make way more sense

and have way less problems in terms of balance

really, the thing that both players and designers probably dread the most in fortnite is 3rd partying

like it just ruins entire mechanics

a sniper is a super interesting tool

but with third partying being a thing

it becomes an absolute pain to play against

because you dont have that adversarial combat environment

instead, you have something that feels completely random and unfair

so, then, this happens like pretty much every 3 seasons

they remove snipers or make them dogshit

then they add them back

over and over

and its the same lessons every time

same with cars

i dont think anyone had problems engaging a battle car when it was a clear engage

it was when it was some random ass car swooping into you and just ruining all your planning for your actual engagement

so then they have to ruin cars

etc

NOTHING in fortnite can actually be interesting or good because a third party can abuse it

this is the lesson epic learns every season and they just work around it instead of rethinking the format

and yies it would be a very radical change

but tbh i feel like epic has no idea what to do with fortnite

they tried the metaverse thing and now seem to be backing out

by allowing people to uninstall creative

i feel like thats the first signs of it being cut
