Can you elaborate. Your problem is 5 words long

swift meteor
#

@naive zealot pls bro elaborate

#

What do you have in your launch options?

deft musk
#

do you mean as in you set your resolution to a 16:10 one, and after alt tabbing / exiting the game it goes back to 16:9?

deft musk
#

hmm, does your resolution change at all when doing this?
or does the window not change at all?

#

do you have anything set in your autoexec / config.cfg?

#

tf/cfg

#

also, anything in your custom folder?

#

ah yeh the mconfig stuff
anything related to resolution in there?
you able to take a screenshot of them or paste the contents of them into here?

#

aye yeh I know
screenshot / paste the text into here

#

if they're empty then no worries

#

they won't have an exec call between them, mastercomfig handles it
and ok so nothing about resolution either
hmm

#

what resolution is tf2 currently set to, and what are you trying to set it to?

#

?
can you take a screenshot of the filepath?

#

ahhh ok

#

is it like
~/steamapps/common/team fortress 2/tf/cfg/custom/overrides?

#

aye that's fine

#

@naive zealot has leveled up! (1 ➜ 2)

deft musk
#

ahhh ok
yeah your overrides seems to be in the wrong place

#

may not be relevant but still worth mentioning

#

huh

#

same stuff inside both?

#

ahhh ok
your custom/overrides I'm guessing is your own personal customisations

#

what files are in the custom / overrides?

#

although this isn't relevant to the main issue

#

huh, yeah leave that be for now

#

oh I meant the /overrides within custom if that makes sense

#

ah ok, sounds like the mcomfig overrides folder template then
it won't do much, but it won't harm anything being there for now

but yeh, do you have an Nvidia graphics card? and have you changed any settings in the Nvidia control panel?

#

can't really upgrade laptops like that usually tbh
unless you mean the whole laptop
which tbh for tf2 probably not
it's not the best optimised, but it's also p old so you can get it working on most anything

#

yeah that should be more than enough for tf2 fortunately
but ok yeh guessing you haven't touched the Nvidia control panel

#

ah ok
was gonna say there might be settings in there messing with it

#

but yeh not sure if I asked earlier but
what's the native resolution of the laptop?
what is tf2s current resolution?
what resolution are you trying to change it to?

#

huh, odd, it might take a while to load, but probably just leave it for now

#

Resolution is tied to aspect ratio
but ok, so is the native ratio of your laptop 16:10?
and tf2 is defaulting to 16:9 and won't go to 16:10?

#

hmm, native 1080p would mean your laptop's native aspect ratio is 16:9
trying to set it to 16:10 would end up causing letter boxing

#

ahhh, ok

#

hmm, have you changed your resolution in windows?

#

odd
ok, find your windows display settings for me, and tell me what your resolution is
as well as what % your resolution scaling is

#

you're looking for the 2 values at the bottom of this image

#

does it say (recommended)?

#

huh, one sec

#

you able to get me the full model name of your legion laptop?
should be able to see it in This Pc -> properties

#

oh, something else I realised
when changing the aspect ratio in tf2, are you making sure to also set the resolution afterwards?

#

ie, change aspect ratio to 16:10, then pick the preferred resolution, then apply?

#

hmm, how about the processor name?

#

when changing aspect ratio, what resolution does it say it will become?
does it change from 1920x1080?

#

https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/Lenovo-Legion-5-15ARH05/p/88GMY501444

this seems to be the one
looking at it, it only seems to support 16:9 1080p, not 16:10 like later models

so setting to 16:10 might not be very feasible, sorry

#

it still supports 144fps, which should still be reachable especially on 1080p

#

choppy frames?
that can be a myriad of things tbh
tf2 being tf2, CPU overdraw, network connectivity, etc etc

#

this one might be worth opening a second thread for maybe
but main things to try would be to run mastercomfig on high or very high instead of ultra
making sure you're on a wired and not wireless connection
there's some additional optimisations you can make in windows that can help too

deft musk
#

hmm, how much do you currently have?

#

8GB or more should be enough
and generally I don't think RAM causes choppy frames that much

#

yeah that sounds like enough for tf2

#

upgrading to 16 might be useful
but it's probably best to make sure you just got still like your web browser closed while playing games

#

aye yeah
as said tf2 can be choppy sometimes

#

there's probably others in here who can help better with frame choppiness

#

no worries
try to mention some of the info in here
mastercomfig preset, laptop specs, wired conection, etc
