2 d4 is by far the most played response in Master Games. Alternatives are 2 d3, Nf3, Qe2 and Nc3 that are above 1% of Master play.

I like d4

OK, I will add 2. b3 to the list above, so 2. d4, d3, Nf3, Qe2, Nc3, b3 and start a poll. Please continue the discussion!

Literally just go d4, 2.b3 is an interesting choice I personally like but the World is not gonna play b3

woven shore
#

That is what the poll would decide.

I don’t like this name color

I would advocate for sacrificing c3 as well because those lines are hell for non french mains

urban ore
#

people that flex into the french get cooked here

Or a sample game?

#

Poll is up for "What shall we play on move 2, if 1. e4 e6 is played?"

ok this bot is broken why can I only go forward 10 moves

#

thougj honestly we don’t need to decide what we’re playing this far in, any d4 is fine with me

woven shore
#

Can we make these games public? Or what is the easiest way to play them?

urban ore
#

vote chess allows explorer right?

#

or opening book idk what you call it

#

same rules as daily chess basically

urban ore

c4 is also interesting

#

and Gotham endorsed it too

#

so whatever we’lrengonna play d4 anyways after French

#

but french is so unlokely

Just when you think you know what they are going to do, they go and surprise you

#

and that is not so good in vote chess, can you guess why?

urban ore
#

hmm thinking about it e6 b6 would absolutely cook the world team

minor cradle

The rest of the game is that I found a tactic and i won a piece

woven shore
urban ore
#

ok I genuinely haven’t looked at vote chess for years

round tusk
#

yeah do

#
  1. e4 e6
  2. Nf3 d5
  3. nc3
#

and

#

my reasoning is that this generally leads to sharp and sometimes open positions dependent on black’s moves

nc3 first I also considered but then there is c5 as a response immediately which almost certainly prevents d4 at some point

in two knights, after d5 there is Ne2 which also plans to retake but there are also some sharper variations like c3 lines

#

I hate boring positions

woven shore
#

2 d4 has a commanding lead in the poll. That was fast!
