hi guys, been looking to build a lofted bed with a desk soon
the general specs i've decided on are a 40x80" platform with desk at 24" and bed at 50"
i included a blockout for reference (modelled from extrusions for now but obviously i'm using wood)
i'm new to woodworking so i'm very much still in the design phase here, and am kinda looking for general guidance
for now, some specific questions i have are:

where and what do i source?
ie. i'm imagining an mdf desktop with dimensional lumber for the frame? do i care about species? will any home store will cut that for me? -
how should i go about ensuring structural integrity?
ie. i should be using brackets with standard screws? i should probably have a truss in the back/the sides?
