#Tint? Varnish? Stain? Oh my!

Hello, apologies if this is not what this server is for.

But I found these nice wooden dice for sale but they are only in beechwood.

I was thinking of getting a few sets, and finishing them in a way that makes each set look distinctive.

I definitely don't want to use paint, as I find painted wood disgusting, I'd like for it to still have a wood grain, and still look like wood, paint would just make it look platicy, and horrible to touch.

So I am left with Tints, Varnishes, and Stains...

Which would get me the furthest while not making my dice tacky to the touch?

I’ve heard good things about transtint
I would consider leather dye as well.
Then you could use thinned down oil paints to get color while preserving grain.
Others here have more experience sand hopefully will clarify and expand.
