#Preparing long Douglas Fir. Hobby project.

Bunch of Douglas Fir just arrived for a loft bed for my son.

It definitely needs a bit of work with planing and getting rid of roughness. A lot of what I need will be around 1.7m long... which is far too long for my jointer.

So my question is, what kind of difficulties am I going to face when planing this by hand?

prob not too much, it is relatively easy to work

1.7 meters is like 5.5 feet

How long are your jointer beds

That should not be a problem on your jointer

Had to come back to this. My jointer bed is about 1.2 meter long. It's opened up at the moment.
To be honest, I just threw the none critical and slimmer planks directly through the thicknesser just to smooth them out quickly. They aren't super critical as they're just the bed slats. But I would like the posts to be as straight as possible. I realised that it's just 1.7m for one of the posts. Rechecked my design and the others are like 2.2m.

I am wondering though if I should just put the edges through the jointer as well now, just to smooth them out before sanding a bit.

You can flatten boards up to twice the length of your jointer. So you should be able to flatten up to 2.4 meter long boards.
