#Making cabinet to fit drawers

I have a set of drawers I happened to pick up as “trash” from a shop that was shutting down, and was hoping to use them as a project to try and make a cabinet (would that be just a carcase?) for them. The outside frame would be easy, just a normal box, but I’m not sure what the best way of doing the inside supports that would hold the drawers would be.

Would it be better to have two longer boards going horizontally, then three vertical ones in the middle to separate each drawer? Or to have one long vertical board, then six short horizontal ones? I was planning on seating all of these in grooves (dados?), but if that’s not the best method I’d appreciate correction.

I know another option is learning how drawer slides work, but I’m not sure I’m ready for all that yet unless what I’m trying to do is a bad idea.

Look up "web frames".

#

They'll work as the divider, plus the runner for the set above and kicker for the set below. Then you can do vertical dividers in several similar ways.

#

Your top drawers "kick" on the carcase, and your bottom drawers "run" on the carcase.

#

This will translate to "two longer boards going horizontally, then three vertical ones in the middle", I believe.

#

I'm almost positive they are dados when across the grain, but anyone who actually makes stuff will know what you mean if you just say "groove."

I will research! Not sure what “kick” and “run” means in this case, but I’m sure I’ll find something

Thank you very much for the rec/place to start!
