I'm building a shoe rack out of 2" x 1" Pine. I'll be using pocket screws to join everything together. I'm wondering if the configuration is optimal. Thanks!

no. You at least want the rails and aprons to be vertical.

Okay thanks. I had them horizontal to increase space but I think I can sacrifice an inch for rigidness

you don't want to screws to be what is supporting the weight of sitting on the bench.
you want to top frame to be sitting on the legs and the screws are just holding it in place

It's not a bench, more like a console table with shoe racks under it. The current design has the top sitting on the legs.
