#Minimum depth of a dowel hole when joining two pieces of wood from endgrain side to facegrain side

Say that I have two pieces of wood that are each 3/4" thick, and I'm using dowel pins that are each 3/8" in diameter and 3/2" in length. And say that I'm trying to connect two pieces wood by connecting the end grain side of one piece to the edge of the face grain side of the other piece via said dowel pins like shown in the attached image. Would it be reasonable to do so, given that there's only 3/4" of room for the dowel hole in the face grain piece?

If I understand your question, the face grain piece is only 3/4" thick so additional dowel length goes through the other side. Doesn't do much just hanging out there.

Or do you mean in regards to the short grain section between the dowel and the end of the face grain board?

it doesn't take much. 3/8" is fine.

Would a 3/8" diameter, 3/2" long dowel pin connected via a 1/2" deep hole on the face grain of one block of 3/4" thick wood and a 1" deep long hole on the end grain of another block of 3/4" thick wood (extra depth to make room for wood glue) be sufficient for dowel pin joinery?
