#(Milling) Does anyone know how the part of the workpiece is called which is left untouched to clamp?

I have some parts I want to make in strips of 4. Material is 6061 and the stock is about 7" long with a 1"x2" cross section. Once I have the parts milled my initial plan was to band saw them apart and put them in the vise 2 at a time and mill the back side off. What I would really like to do is...
These guys call it the 'carrier' or 'hat' - I'll wait on my friend else we're both just playing googlewhack 😂
Both my mechanical friends said "Never really called it anything specific". Best one could do was "Work holding stock"
One said "I never really considered that it needed a name".
So I'll be interested if anyone else chimes in at this point!!
it might be a question better answered in a forum about machining rather than woodworking
milling machines aren't usually used for woodworking is more of what I was getting at
An approach to the issue that you've raised that used fairly frequently is to use something like turners tape to affix the piece to a substrate that is easier to use with workholding
I might just be terribly ignorant but I've not heard of milling machines being used for that purpose
Yeah, that's gonna result in tiny shredded decorative pieces
