So if the screw in the middle pulls the middle of the iron towards it (I have no idea what else physics could possibly allow) it will pull it up as in your picture.
Also, I just can't avoid pointing out that in Fundamentals no one bothered to talk about irons flexing this way and that, because I'm pretty sure it is not something you need to think about to do woodworking.
If this is fun for you then by all means, but don't feel pressure to understand whatever the heck he's talking about just so you can plane things well.
Correct. The iron and chipbeaker are a single assembly
You have all wooden planes I'm guessing?
wooden planes still often come with a cap iron
Well plenty of wooden planes didn't have chip breakers. Bevel up also do not. It was just a guess
