2023 was a good year for me in this hobby where I started to get a little more comfortable and feel like "I can do this, even with my micro sized shop". I started in 2022 with the "wood working for mere mortals " intro course but only built the workbench and patio table.
Looking back, I was actually surprised with all I had done.
In order:
- I made a foldable squatty potty of my own design. We never fold it so the folding legs are more annoying and wobbly but hey it still works and it was fun and challenging to get the movement working.
- couple of things for my sisters wedding: a cake stand and a welcome sign with box for flowers.
- I added a router plate to my workbench which has been awesome. I love it.
- 2 (two!) Adirondack chairs!! This was a big confidence booster, and we love having them for the fire pit
- I tried my hand at furniture repair and made a pretty good replacement chair stretcher
- a shitty gotschall block, first time chiseling.
- a compost bin (more diy than woodworking but it was fun to get the SO involved)
- a simple sofa arm tray to have a flat surface for a drink etc
- the big one: our built in closet remodel! This was my first time using hardwood, before I was exclusively using pine.
- because i have no chill, a serving tray for my parents as a christmas gift, started immediately after the closet finished.
Phew.
I can't wait for next year.
I owe the newly weds a piece of furniture and hope to make more small furniture items in general. I think no more built ins for awhile...
I still don't have a table saw for space constraints, but I got a track saw and would love to build a better workbench to make using it even better, like an MFT.
