What paint/finish recommendations for a mostly plywood with poplar face frame lego table?

Paint is more durable than poly so that would be somewhat redundant.

Use paint that is non sticky. Wall paint is sticky when you put things on it, such as a window sill with small objects. Cabinet and trim paint is a good choice. Ask the paint people to be sure.
