Hello I'm toying with the idea of creating a toy car ramp tower for my son. I'm alright with DIY stuff around the house but got this idea of making a spiral ramp around a rectangular structure.

I was wondering if there is any advice for creating the ramp its self, what type of wood would be the best, what methods can I use for bending / sloping it around and down the structure?

I'll draw up some proper plans but as a place holder I threw this bad boy together on paint blobThinkSmart

Truthfully you may be better off using another material, wood is not very bendable/pliable. You could potentially do it with steam bending and contortion boxes, but just getting that setup would be a whole separate project.

I guess you could also cut up a bunch of segments and glue them into a spiral form before coming back and shaping it. Just would be fairly time consuming

Thanks for that I appreciate the advice. You're probably right I really only have basic tools too so not sure I'd have the correct tools to clamp the wood in the location once it was shaped.

I'll look into diffrent options as far as materials go for the ramp. Thanks again I appreciate your time.

sheet metal?

Not a bad call, just need to make sure that the sides/bottom is encased in something else to ensure the kids don't lose a finger on it blobSweat

like an octagon but also slanted?

If you don't expect it to last extremely long, maybe cutting cardboard to the shape you want and then putting a layer of bondo (or something similar) on top to stiffen it up could work and be less dangerous than sheet metal.
