#Options for pushing out a door strike plate

I have a door strike plate that isn't even near to catching, the lock is about half a cm away from even touching the strike metal, nevermind actually recessing and then locking inside the strike plate. This is due to the door being a good cm shorter than it needs to be, so I won't get a good door seal regardless

What options do I have for pushing out the strike plate or I guess extending the locking mechanism? Current idea seems to just stack a bunch of strike plates and screw them in together to create the recess via the strike plates rather than the wood which is way too far away to be useful

I don't really care about aesthetics and it's rented accommodation so I can't really be too destructive to the wall or door, looking for a quick hack job that's functional really.

I have made wooden shims that go under the strike plate to move it out the desired distance. You can make this look nice-ish depending how much effort you want to put in, and glue it in place permanently or screw it if you want to remove it later.

You can shim it out with layers of cardboard, the kind attached to a pad of notepaper.

Use a Sharpie to color the edge to a desirable tint.
