Since you are just switching partititons, and not doing a system upgrade. No.

Make sure you are on the toltec partition, and then use codexctl to install 3.8. This will ensure that the current active partition becomes the fallback partition.

If it's v5 it didn't convert
As for how to convert, just open in the newer version and it should convert, although it may require making a change to the file first.
As for converting to an older format
