Backpacks/shulkers can be opened in inventory, and most important it can be opened directly in inventory by right cursor click. I believe this feature extremely cool and super handy, this must be vanilla feature, I believe.

I suggest implementing similar mechanics on other interactive tool blocks:

  • Crafting table (most usable guy in the team)
  • Ender chest
  • Stonecutter
  • Blacksmith, Anvil, Grindstone, Loom, ... (least usable but why not?)
Those blocks are not even tile entities ||(except for echest, as I know, only for close/open anim)|| and doesn't have own inventory, they just open a hidden part of player's own UI/inventory. So, implementing opening of corresponding UI should not be problematic. Only problem that it's stackable items but should be OK to override behavior when clicking single item.
It always was annoying in Minecraft to place those blocks to use, not being able to open it at least from the hand. pepehands
This especially can be handy in constant traveling/exploring condition of the Abyss.
