#Difficulty (mostly about inventory)

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I think the survival experience holds your hand a little too much, and that's definitely because of keeping the inventory on death. while I understand that losing your items to possibly a single mistake or an unfortunate mob spawn is frustrating if you're trying to climb down a giant hole, I also think that's.. the point? keeping your inventory on death removes any stakes there could be. why carefully plan my descent when I can just throw myself off a cliff and see if it works with no consequence? why be careful around a dangerous mob if nothing happens if it kills me? it also makes grinding for mob drops boring. killing an orb piercer should be an absurd task that requires careful planning that could also incentivize teamwork. instead I can just aggro it to the nearest bonfire and mash. same clearly also goes for dying due to the strains of ascension (which I also think need a little difficulty increase).

obviously there's the issue of going back to orth but you could work around that by adding a command or another feature that brings you back to orth while also removing your bonfire spawn

#

or any sort of fast travel mechanic really (perhaps fast travel to your last bonfire? it would also make it so that players could go back to orth and then to a deeper layer without having to climb down from scratch)

you can turn keep inventory off

#

also theres a bunch of ways to make the game harder

#

idk them all but you can ask pod whos known for playing the server in the hardest way

yeah ive gone down and up before, being down that deep when you know going up could loose all your stuff is amazing

#

it actually feels like your that far down

#

the whole challenge of the abyss is the curse so just tp'ing to orth goes against that spirit. As is keep inv as if dying has no consequence, then like you said no stakes

feels like an abyss themed park ride with no real risk

well I mean you technically kinda need to go back to orth

#

to trade mob drops and coins and whatever or even just to actually move between floors in a practical way

#

I mean lore-wise people do go back to orth, it's just unpractical

#

again I think some sort of mechanic for fast travel to go back to orth should be a thing

#

like okibos! okibos lore-wise are used to go back to orth

#

you use the okibo, get back to orth and then it gets killed and you get its meat

#

it's lore accurate and practical

#

oh also I didn't know you could disable keepinv

#

thanks for the clarification

Maybe like source the okibo used to go back to orth part

#

I remember reading something like that

#

once I'm home I'm gonna give source

#

At any rate havin okibo fast travel will be a thing

#

Only in orth though

plush gazelle
#

yeah that would be fair

You can turn keep-inv off with a command, and as you said you are in the minority lmao. We turned it off on reset and added graves but they caused significant issues BC of lots of entities etc and also just most people don't like the inconvenience, hence we reverted back to all players being on keep-inv unless they specified otherwise with the command.

Okibo lines are planned for fast travel around Orth, Gondolas for actually going up and down the abyss though when they come to be a thing on the server, idk.

We do want to make survival a less hand-holding experience, but when we do that most people generally tend to complain kekw
