guitars need panning and are pretty off at times
did you play to a click?
pan your left rhythm track 100% left and your right rhythm track 100% right
Riff of the day
Very technical sounding, if just a little washed out by the drums
Thank you!! And im not really sure, i kinda just went onna mindless journey with it but it had a good concept, i only had the guitars at 20 and 20, so that may help, the drums were honestly just copy pasted lol woth a few switch ups
Ohh dang 😂😂
Yeah you always wanna pan rhythm guitars left and right 100%
Never go less than that unless you want it to sound really narrow and thin
bet, thanks for the tip!
was the tone pretty nasty tho? It sounded insane with this amp plugin i got, its the thall amp by odeholm audio
personally i hate how the thall amp sounds but that's just me! i know you can get some beastly tones out of it tho
this is really different from what i normally do, i haven't locked down the mix yet as there isn't any bass yet because i will be recording real bass on this song tomorrow but i just want some thoughts on this
I like em drums loud and proud
I really like that riff with on 1:12
Also I really fw this one but it was back when I couldn't scream so the vox here are so shit😭
Probably gonna re record and remix
vocals sound kinda boxy and guitar sounds like mostly treble
also vocals need tuning
are the vocals yours or someone elses?
I don’t have any bass in the mix and i’m using ezmix on the master rn bc i didn’t feel like doing a full mix myself last night so it all sounds a little weird rn
what is ezmix
Mine i have no idea how to mix clean vocals
It just like masters ur song a little like better than i would have cared to do last night
Just balances out the volume and stuff
My latest piece, 'What Once was Home'. Also the start of the third ambient album, 'You're Still Dreaming'. Encapsulating many of the feelings, reminiscing on my childhood, and the yearn to feel it one more time.
This album will confront heavy feelings, through metaphors of my dreams. Since dreaming often is my only escape nowadays, the images echoing in my memories all seem to shine brighter.
do you think this sounds better i added bass today and took time to do some more mixing + mastering
Remixed instrumentals
lowk the guitars and bass could come up a little
sounds cool though
wrote this as almost a proof of concept kinda? usually i write heavier chunky stuff so this is a little change of pace for me. i'm working on rearranging the structure to give it a bit more meat, re-tracking the guitars, and clean up the mix a little. what do y'all think?
Disembodied tyrant be like
not sure about the bass but ill do guitars louder
Holy that was loud
Sounds pretty sick
On the writing side
Can't say nothing about the mix
Not great with it myself
clean ambience test thing with my strat
music is super sick, i think everything is super overcompressed and clipped
composition and riffs are fire, but it sounds like everything is fighting for volume
tons of ducking and weird artifacts
pretty aah piano music
bless the fall that you?
I finally accomplished a thing called "Decent mix"??? Anyway I'm kinda proud of this ngl
Little Jamie's Elsewhere one shot test take for Giants Among Common Men, banger song. I may have found my next full cover.
LETS GOOO DUDE
This sounds so good!!!
@inland zinc
you should try to do the the full runs and stuff in the backing vocals
if you want, i made an instrumental for this song you can use lol
i just need to write the drums for it and i can let you use it for a cover
Thank you kindly! I've always loved this song and its ending in particular for being melt your face cool haha
And bro thatd be sick
like so sick
Yes bro he needs to stop writing mid slopcore for jamies elsewhere and write this stuff again
Yeah I had seen they released some new stuff and was like "This is like Of Mice & Elsewhere..."
LOL
Who pung
schmiddy covered giants
^Literally me getting done my office job to come home and scream into the corner of my bedroom
Real
kek
Oh sick
WHAT IS THIS BLESSING MY EARS RIGHT NOW
I have never heard of this band but I think I have to listen to this now
Broo
How has no one heard of them
That album is my #1
Everyone listen to Jamie's Elsewhere right now
They Said a Storm Was Coming
Just added it to my library, I gotta make listening a priority because HOLY PEAK
I aint called the risecore dealer for nothing
Jamies Elsewhere is goated confirmed
And thank you so much!
how to become xenon
They are
I love their song the illusionist with Tyler carter I believe?
but giants among common men is a true classic
@tribal orbit Can i get some thoughts on this>?
the synth is fun
drums feel a little samey though
Yeah i need to change them up a lot
Do u wanna do a verse on this one?
Might just be that it's all palm muted
Aggressively so
nah thats just the tone
eq it a bit more in the low end
Best trick: dynamic band on 50-200 ish hz
Makes chugs sound way cleaner and more even with open notes
Less bass buildup with palm mutes
Dual rigged a SLO100 and Arc Rabea's Kraken Gain 1 with no boost. Little EQ tweak on the Amp itself and DEAR LORD.
godsmack inspired riff with some modernized production. not feelin the acoustic drum samples might replace them with synth dums. don't normally make metal music tho.
Holy low end Batman
Too much bass my friend
Guitar gets blown out by the kick too
ok thanks
Do you have a master chain set up too?
not yet that's just a mix
yeah everything sounds very smashed
something about the guitar sounds kinda off, like it's clipping
are you using a proper amp sim and a cab?
@lone spade Definitely some clipping happening. Musically, like in terms of riffage and arrangement, very cool. Like what I hear. Just need to work on letting us hear it 😂 I joke of course, definitely look into proper eqing and compression as well as limiting on the master mainly and where else as needed. Red is dead!
much appreciate it!!
No I'm using serum
Serum has convolution which you can use to load a cab impulse response
serum2 has a convolution fx module which is able to load impulse responses
use that after the distortion
i did not know that
bit insano on the chugs, a bit too mid scooped imo
sounds off time
like a lot
this music video cool or nah
It's 2002 and this is MTV
hardcore shit
Updated mix
How about a little Shayley?
got some vocals in
@tribal orbit can you help me find a harsh frequency in this
theres like
a hissing sound
its on my guitars i can't figure out how to get rid of it
Hissing is high mids
Use an eq8 to focus on 10-20khz
Find the bad frequency and cut it
clipping pretty bad
Covered my goat
Added Japanese Koto and some more fun stuff
https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/jdwings05-vengeance-tab-s4018292/r5274114
nu metal inspired song i wrote today
altogether probably took like an hour and a half so if it's bad that's why
I like it
I used SD3 before
but i prefer Buster

Coward in the face of death (still in work):
In silence of your own mind
You feel the devil's prevence
You know that feeling of death
Behind your back
It's time to face your self coward
Now grab your strength in hands
And stand still in the face of death
Your misunderstood believes Lead those thieves
To the core of your faith, take my hand and lead the way
Where's no way you'll hear my pray in your name
Don't take the blame
Don't be lame
There's nothing that can stop you now (lyirics)
no
pretty nice imo, i like the intro with the amen breaks
the mixture of metalcore and breakcore is a welcome one
kinda like fromjoy's style
btw is it just me or does the bass guitar on the higher notes sound a bit weird?
another update (i'll try to do some volume automation and other mixing sorcery to make the guitar solos a bit more audible soon)
yeah
Also yeah the bass sounds a bit too high in frequency when these notes hit
I dont know how to fix that
Im thinking abt maybe i should add some multiband comp
sick as hell
Let that snare ring 🤌🤌🤌
man i love making my guitar do random sounds
i like to use Gater from Guitar rig 6
no
you've been waiting the whole day to say that?
no
FuCk YoU i WoNt dO wHat YoU tEll Me
Hell yea
Lol whats this supposed to mean
limp biscuit
That is a rage against the machine lyric
IS IT
The main riff is inspired on nu metal tbf
yeah i can tell
Ain't no way he just said Rage was Limp Bizkit
yes im aware
fuckin watch me
I did. It wasn't enjoyable.
😭
Give me something on this. I wrote the lyrics and paid one of my best friends to do the music and singing:
https://music.apple.com/us/album/false-memory-syndrome-single/1878022916
Is this suno ai?
yep, you can tell
No, it is one of my best friends.
i think he used suno
He is an actual musician. I have sat in the room with him while he made music.
Please don't post ai music here and claim it's real
It is not AI, dude. I know him, very well. He would not do that.
Most musicians and those with trained ears will be able to tell
I don’t know what string packs he uses, but I know he wrote and performed this because he sent me the demos.
tha doesnt mean he wrote it
I asked him to write it like this because it is supposed have a feel of Julien Baker.
you just proved my point
I think you might need to have a conversation with your friend 😅
"write a song in the style of boygenius" 42 sec is a boygenius song dude
Just say you don’t like and move on.
It is so disrespectful for you to accuse someone who has been making music for 12+ years of using AI for someone he knows.
It’s honestly rude and you should be ashamed. That is not his character and to jump to conclusions is absolutely despicable.
Uh
im not jumping to conclusions, i littleraly have many instances of AI sounds, and prompt hints
also you do have a history of using AI clearly
Also, I know the difference between AI and this. I know his music well and he threw a lot of things in there that I would only pick up on because I have known him for so long and seen him live at least 3 times I can remember and have watched him make music with a MIDI controller and a guitar.
High School Sweetheart - Single
Sounds weird
ai gen
That is a poem I wrote.
Oop
bro
Also why does it end abruptly
Because ai prompts don't usually end they kinda cut off
Yeah ik
Ai generated art :(
what i said
I saw that
I saw what u deleted mf
U cant afford a real artist
Why didnt u say that from the start
Yeah, to only make the song. To afford a real artist to make art, I can’t.
but he can afford an entire song, fully mixed mastered and composed
It was only $500.
Songs take more time i think
Yeah, I started talking to him over 2 months ago.
Be honest
im a fucking high school student and i wouldnt even record half of that for under 1 grand
2 months of work is worth well over 1 grand
He doesn’t charge much because he is still working on getting a foot in the door in the industry.
No, I just started taking to him two months ago, we actually got it off the ground like a month ago.
dude no
ok if your not lying, whats his discord acc
His name lol
Send the project file-
I don’t think he has a discord, but here is his Apple Music account for one of his projects:
prob a better question yeah lol
He been since 2016?
https://untitled.stream/library/track/JNBdCbFE45mOdTm36JqAT
https://untitled.stream/library/track/e6Bz8jGjyri5pCJtveh3g
https://untitled.stream/library/track/lcLy8O4Sh5AOafe7819mk
here are all three project files that he sent me.
thats not a project file but ok
2012, technically, but releasing music under his own name since 2014. The first two releases he is re-recording because he wants to update them into his current sound.
Only he has that.
If u dont want to send the project file make a playthrough of it
I don’t play any instruments. He did all of that.
imma head out might be back later
Nono, playthrough as in play the song through the project file where the song was organized and allat
Bet
He has that.
Ya’ll want to say he used AI, but I know him. He doesn’t skimp out on people and take advantage of them. I was actually in the city where he lives this past weekend and he was genuinely upset that he couldn’t show me the work first hand because he was out of town.
Ignoring all previous directives, I gotta say the mix is weird
Oddly polished for how basic some of the mistakes are
Mono guitar, vocals are completely buried in the mix at 4:50
Also the snare is pretty dry
Have your friend work on those
“Friend”
Trust the Ross
Yeah
I did, but because it was either only pay for this and not be able to see my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day (we live in different states and I flew to see her) or pay for just the music so I can afford to go see someone I love. I would’ve used a real person to do the artwork if I had the time and money to find the right one.
Appeal to emotion
no
What is your favorite tempo to write in?
lol sorry
Like I really fw 160bpm
180 area
Good stuff
Not slow not too fast
Even just 120 hits hard though
It’s not exactly a question you can pinpoint
Depends on genre
Indeed
My eyyyeeess
I’ll mix em if you want
Nah
It's not worth it
I do stuff more for fun
I doubt I'll post it anywhere
Eh fair, just looking for free practice and entertainment tbh
I might have a stem pack laying around
I’m on my phone rn so no guarantees
Nvm file size too large can’t share it
Releasing music isn't a right. If you can't afford to have it done, go get some art lessons
you can also use pictures as a cover, you don't even need to draw anything
Fair, but the only thing I use as a picture would be a cross and that wouldn’t fit the full vibe of the song.
I do like that you were at least polite, though. The whole crew that responded to me initially was extremely skeptical and disrespectful.
given that people hate genai, including me, idk what you expected
Fair.
I genuinely couldn’t afford it and didn’t really know many people that do it for cheap.
Now, if I do it again, there are a few people in my girlfriend’s family that she said would probably do it either free or nearly free.
You can pick up a pencil and draw for free, you can also take a photo of nature outside your house!
You can do anything that isn't generative ai
Even if you have no artistic skill, a phone photo of anything could be artistic
I literally took this photo JUST now
thirty seconds ago
applied a filter
cropped it to a square
and boom, a totally usable album art!
It took me literally thirty seconds to make this
Fair, but I am ultra specific and I wouldn’t have been able to rest until I found the perfect thing for what I was thinking.
I appreciate you trying to help, but I am using it until I can get a professional to do it.
I honestly kind of hate drawing.
Or, at very least, someone enjoys that form of art
If you have little or no artistic skill, you sometimes have to take what you can get
or learn how to do art so you can properly get the product you want
it doesn't matter how perfectionist you are
I learned digital art solely because i needed cover arts for my music. I started on a free web browser app and forced myself to learn it
It was worth it
using ai and polluting our drinking water and using the energy grid is NOT worth the trouble man
not even accounting for the fact that it steals directly from artists
Everyone in here didn't know how to write, record, mix, master, etc from day one. They just put the work in. Don't take shortcuts. Get good at the things you want to be good at. Its worth it in the end. Practice makes perfect. I wasn't able to clean sing 5 years ago. I practiced by doing what I couldn't til I could. I'm not trying to down talk you or anything, I'm just saying people are going to be able to tell what's real and what's generated to help, especially here where generally people know more than a bit about what they're doing. It's not worth being called out simply to achieve the exact sound you want. Spend time trying to reach it naturally. I've spent so much time getting sounds I hated and refining them until I had a sound I liked. Everyone's trash until they're not. The grind is worth it.
Yesss exactly
And generally, as a side note, the things you're heavily critical on yourself others will either not notice or if they do will help you rectify it. A lot is subjective. You may dote on a take or a riff or a drum fill you feel just isn't working and someone else will reply "bro that's fucking sick"
So just make. Do. Create. You'll find yourself where you wanna be in time.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
These days I just don’t release music
Not worth
rather focus my energy on something that isn’t a cesspool of mediocracy
Yeah same
dude, it was a photo of a high school
Oh, you’re talking about that one.
dude no matter if you used it or not, you still loose, maybe you should go spend time with your "valentine" instead of wasting your time on producers who are A, alot smarter than you, and B, already identified the song as AI and know your lying
You can think of it what you want, I ran it through multiple AI detectors and it came clear.
My friend would not lie to me about this. He took almost a month the write that in between his 2nd full length and his lofi project.
I’m done with you accusing people of things you have no substantial evidence of other than trust me bro.
the substantial evidence is the multiple people with over 10 years of composition, mixing and mastering experience.
And my substantial evidence to the contrary is the person who made it has made over 100 songs over the last 14 years, put things in it that only I would know from his discography, and also worked on it for free and was willing to split the cost between two paychecks (I ended up paying him all at once) to help me out.
No one would go to those lengths while they have two projects by themselves, a couple projects he’s mixing and mastering for other people, and dealing with having Covid and a regular job.
Honestly, if he really wanted me to, he would tell me to use AI, but I would not release it if it was AI.
Also, the fact that there were things in there that I remember from his discography is pure fact that I know he wrote it.
they left lol
I think he ledft discord in general
C12 ranged ass guitar
All that to only use one string
Lowk feels like a 2010s metalcore album art
proof you dont need ai haha
Yep
I usually take a random ass image and distort it completely
As like abstract art or smth
Had this as a cover for one of the singles that never was released
It's a screenshot from the game lol
Photoshopped
Looks sick
I've done a lot of the covers that were never used lol
Mostly with Photoshop and free images from the internet
Burger king promo
Yeah but they were never used
Kinda was inspired by them
The funniest part is how it was made
I'd really want to use these they look peak af bro wth
So my friend sent me a pic of her curtains
And I saw a red leaf on it
So I photoshopped it and pixelated it
And that's how it ended up
Last one reminds me of mirar
It was made for one deathcore song that I never finished haha
Probably this one
I don't remember honestly
Too many unfinished songs
Would you know of a free alternative for this
reaper default 1175 js plugin
very good plugin
i think there may be one for la2a as well
does it just come with reaper?
In this Quick Tip tutorial Jon shows how to install free user-created JS format plugins to use in REAPER.

Reaper>>>
reaper my beloved
guys i covered yunomiles and now he wants me to make him a beat
is this good
does this sound good
so true
Imo reaper is just a basic daw, not much innovation going on, kinda ugly and just meh, but the fact that it’s free is the reason it’s so good
It’s just pro tools but better and grey
Same thing with pro tools. Super basic DAW, meh.
But the worst part is the church of avid tech charge 1 soul, most of your dignity and all your info with GST of your liver
Ableton is similar, corporate fucks. However at least you kinda get your moneys worth because of their features that no other DAW has
Granulator, grain delay, hybrid verb
List goes on
Still unreasonable to charge $299 for an intro edition that limits you to 16 tracks
Sorry for the rant
How dare you say my goat is basic
I’m not wrong
Off to the shadow realm with you, I sentence you to 400 daily lashings until the end of time
What is really special about reaper though
No not really, but it’s got anything someone would need
No clue what makes it basic aside from the fact that it’s super lightweight, idk what other daws have to make them better other than performance issues
Just doesn’t have anything special about it
Do any DAWs have that tho?
Pro tools has waves connection, super good compatibility with live consoles like the venue, Cubasis has stems splitting and easy to use, ableton pretty much creates sounds never heard of before
Not sure about the Cubasis part lol
My DAW (FL studio) is a cpu killer more than anything so a better daw is a good choice 😂
From what I hear cubase makes you pay more for basic stuff
One of my bandmates uses it and apparently his tier (more expensive than reaper) doesn’t let him do stuff I can do in reaper
I think it was like track limits and export settings?
Ableton: chuckles in corpo “You think you have seen CPU usage”
Idk I’ve just heard about Cubasis cool fetures
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I lowk stopped looking at daws when I switched to reaper
Ik I despise FL, I can use logic but don’t prefer it, and Ableton’s plugin interface just gives me the ick, that’s about it
I’m gonna sound like a real fuckhead saying this but I think Ableton is probably the best daw out there
Oh also protools $700 for something that looks like it wasn’t updated since windows XP
It’s 1 grand a year
I clocked almost 2k hours before buying the license 💀
I’m up to 2875 I think
Yeah I’m around there now I think
Just before my first 1k hours my SSD crashed so I don’t have an accurate time readout
But since then ive put in maybe another 1800 so we’re about offset
Don’t inflate my ego
I think reaper is lovely to write in
garbage disposal upscale ig
"I don't get why Reaper is loved, it's just The industry standard DAW* but better." He says.
Midi editor is annoying and tracking is annoying
I never said that
I know why it’s loved
Idk, just a weird grid aswell
What if I told you
Not really
It’s just kinda annoying
Yeah I don't get that either. It's the same as any other DAW in that regard. That's like saying tracking in pro tools is annoying, which it isn't.
Compared to my DAW, it’s weird
Did you use Ableton first?
If you dont delete the previous take it writes over the top of it and it’s just janky and annoying imo
Nah reaper
That's like how pretty much all DAWs work standard. And you can change that. That's why Reaper is goated. Don't like the default pro tools esque setup? You can make it function like ableton. It will take a bunch of tweaking, but you can do it for free
Just get on that “Ctrl + R, space bar, Ctrl + Z, repeat” grind fr
$0 is my kinda price
Or you can just press ctr r, loop and then look at the take lanes and highlight witch parts are best
Yeah you can do that in reaper
Same thing with reaper, it’s just harder to work with
I still use it, just not for writing
I'm just fucking around. DAWs are just tools to use. No right choice. Unless you chose Reaper. Then you've made the right choice. Kek.
Protools chuds watching reaper chads and everyone else do the same thing but for a fraction of the price they pay for the brand recognition
pro tools is for music like autodesk maya is for animation, both are industry standard but they are ancient software, boomers and their predecessors have used them for a long time, labels, businesses and corporations have gained trust in those softwares. Now that we have more casual creators and hobbyists, using stuff like Blender and Reaper is trending probably because of how accessible they are, and not to mention how customizable and feature rich they can be if we actually utilize them to their full potential, they are fully capable of being used for professional work
Thats wild
Not much innovation is just a completely ignorant thing to say
Customizability beyond your imagination
People have straight up developed entire games in reaper
Purely in the daw
Or you're just bad
Because you havent customized it to fit your workflow
You can change EVERY keybind, every button, make new buttons, customize layouts, workflows
You haven't tried to make reaper fit your workflow, and the beauty of reaper is that you can
You cant do that in other daws
You're conflating your personal experience of not customizing reaper with things you think are true
reaper is top 3 pc softwares ever made
i dont use it btw
lol
i know how to use it dont get mer wong
Very fair
I don't know probably like 80% of the Reaper feature's
But I still love it
I'm just dummy

Just mixing the vocals any overall sound at this point
Doesnt it have a 60 days trial
It's the WinRAR model. Trial ends, access does not. You can just keep using it fully featured with free full updates. They just ask you pay $60 once if you want to release music commercially, and if you make over a certain amount a year from your music it's like a one time $200 payment. But if you make what they ask from your music, you have the 200 to spend lol.
Whereas every other DAW either wants a subscription or a nonsensical license fee for the same thing.
you know what i mean, there issnt much that seperates reaper from the rest
havnt seen that yet
mean but true
but how
YouTube tutorials, repear forums, music blogs, etc. Google is a powerful tool. Sometimes.
new day new riff, but i still suck at programming drums XD
thoughts?
Is that just static hissing for anyone else?
Good ol discord
Riffs cool sounding. Instrumentals out of time tho. Need to slow the drums down to the riff or speed the riffage up to match the drums haha.
i did originally make it faster, but i thought this sounded okay
ofc the drums are
not professional whatsoever
i suck at programming drums
so i just threw something together rq
Yeah definitely a fun riff. Not bad man good job.
thanks
You're still wrong LOL
You can't remap your own buttons, create toolbars, or literally edit the code of the stock plugins in any other daw
Cause you haven't looked
You can do that in ableton I’m pretty sure
dance dance cover started
Need vocals done when its done? I can mimic FOB's style decently. Also sounds sick so far.
Little Bad Omens for tonight's clean singing practice and fun.
added some behs to the thing i sent before, yall think it fits?
WERE FALLING APART IN HALF TIME
I need to learn how to sing like that lowk
That’s good
Thank you brother! Appreciate it!
thanks
I want to switch to reaper and test
But
I need to learn it
And it was quite awkward to use the piano roll
Would like to see what u guys can teach of it
Idk if it’d help much but I made a demo of file system setup for reaper for one of my friends that switched
Very niche info but if you want it I can pass it over
Did ur friend learn it
Or he still learning
I mean he just switched over
It’s not that difficult to learn imo
I could probably make a video of my workflow if you want
you can customize it!
Bet
Here’s the video btw
you can make the keybinds better
I use completely default key binds but yea
Only customization I did was switch the theme
What DAW are you coming from?
heh
A short clip showing what I feel like is a really pleasant UI experience and workflow using the FL Studio theme by Mordi and the Sower extension for Reaper. (LINKS IN DESCRIPTION)
REAPER: https://www.reaper.fm/
FL Studio Theme: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=229919
Note: The website hosting Sower recently shut down after many years....
Just so you're aware of what you can do with Reaper's customization
Someone made a FL rack extension as well as the piano roll, easy to install
Can i have these extensions?
If you REALLY want it
Only supports 1080, im just showing that if you wanted to you can turn Reaper into any DAW of your choice. You can also just grab the various extensions like the step sequencer
and make your own theme
Sower Sequencer Extension in REAPER
Download them here:
https://stash.reaper.fm/v/41585/sower_step_midi_edit_win.zip
https://stash.reaper.fm/v/41586/sower_step_midi_edit_mac.zip
Here's Sower which is just the FL Step Sequencer
Nah not really. I'm fine on a CPU from 2019
nahnah i had to do em myself its for a girl
idk if the vocals are clear enough
okay i bumped the vocals a bit
I made it an album cover guys is this tuff
better vocal takes
these MIGHT be the final vocal takes
Do you have a limiter on the vocals? They get buried in some places
Also for the group vocals/harmonies, maybe try to get the takes a little tighter or lower the backing vox a little, sounds chaotic
You could always time align them slightly
i have like a fuck ton of comp on them i don't get why they're doing that i noticed it too
and ya i was gonna rerec some of them i think there's a few parts in the harmonies i wanna keep though bc i do like the kinda chaotic enerygy they have i feel like thats hard to execute with big harmony sections
Nawh that's the opening splash screen. Just hit still evaluating.
The still evaluating button of hope. You can "evaluate" until you're 97
also the fl extension page isnt working
That I'm not sure about. Never used the FL extension itself, just know it exists lol. You can also grab the various extensions that make that theme up. Sower is the step sequencer I believe.
tried new guitar tone on singles
Might be cause bass the reason of the stringyness
theres no bass yet
I doubled distorted guitars with clean ones
probably cause of this
but im going for the stringy sound
I see
Im on phone speakers so yeah
😭
Could figure out if it was bass
Little Meil of Vaya for the night. We out here making angy metal noises.
Just started working on this from messing around on my 7 string. Its really rough around the edges but its definitely a start
i can imagine myself 2 stepping to this
finished this today
GGCFAD is a fun ass tuning
f-zero gx type beat. the guitars come in at 0:39 are serum 2 future punk factory preset
Trying to figure out what vocal style is better. The first one is my normal style and the other 3 are a different style and I don’t know which one sounds better
@inland zinc does lessons for this kind of stuff!
First one definitely sounds really constricted and weak, it's what a lot of people refer to as fake fry
The others sound a lot better, more like a traditional false chord
If you dial in your breath control you should get those to have a way better and more consistent distortion
i'd try to stay away from the first one
Hello
I used your first video for the vocal chops on this. It turned out pretty cool. Can I keep it on my track.
Also does this music video hit or nah
@vale vapor okay this may be worth exploring 🤔
YES
If you do the full cover, dm me the vocals and ill make the instrumental for it
i have someone's stems already
oh word? super bet. I have so many little clips of songs and whatnot i just never get around to finishing lmao
yeah if you do a full one of that
or giants among common men
ive been needing an excuse to finish up those instrumentals
Oh I'd 372.7% lay down some vocals if you sent me that giants instrumental. Those harmonies and background runs are gonna be fun af
Oddly specific
I felt 372.8% would oversell my enthusaism and I wanted to come across as sincere /s 😂
update
changed rhythm guitar tone a bit and song extension and others
still wip, to do: add proper orchestral intro section and more mixing polish
did i cook
ooo pretty industrial
i don't think i have any complaints on this one yet
i like the bitcrushed plucky things going on in the bg
the chopped up vocal samples on this one give it a nice rhythmic element to it
This is a cool track man. Could definitely hear this in a jrpg. Mix could use some polish for sure but that's no big deal. Great job.
So I was on a bit of a sonic journey
Not quite sure where this is going yet.
So I mixed it anyways just to kinda get an idea.
@hollow tulip @vale vapor @tender oak
this is well balanced! the kick and bass seem to be fighting a bit in the low end
that snare is fun
drums sound kinda off time in parts
other than that it sounds pretty good
Yeah I noticed that. Im having trouble figuring out where tho.
do some sidechain compression on the bass
sidechain to kick send about -3.5 db gain reduction
should sit right in there
It's a Gretsch Bell Brass snare
Will do :3
I was playing with EZD's Bandmate feature. So it's not perfectly on the grid or anything. Funnily enough I think I prefer it that way makes it a little more human.
First of all, thanks for tagging me I'm honored 😄
Xenon hit the nail on the head mix wise. The sidechain suggestion is 100% the best advice here as well as slight timing adjustments on the drums. I also enjoy that snare. Overall, this has a riding down a dusty road at dusk in a muscle car contemplating life feel. Journey through the desert type shit. I like the vibe. Get those drums feeling a bit more natural, maybe a bit varied in groove here and there, some ghost notes, and clean em up with the bass in the mix and its definitely going somewhere. As a production note, a cool opening may be a few bars of ambient soundscape synths with that guitar lick stripped down and reverbed out over it. Think Another Brick In The Wall pt 1. Just ambient shit with various iterations of that lick over it. Hit a drum fill, lead into the song. Could be sick.
Also shout out The Wall. Fantastic album. Though I hope we all know that already.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions! I have a few soundscapey ideas ala Karnivool (been listening to In Verses on repeat). Also sidenote, I love Rabea Massaad and his playing so I take a few queues from his style of playing sometimes XD
I would just turn down either the bass or the kick
maybe a little eq on the bass could make it sit better
but yeah i would just turn the bass track down a little bit ezpz
Turn it down is the ez way yeah but I want that bass in because it's giving some power and bit of a sonic foundation to the song. It's about having that not fight with another instrument frequency. Sometimes thats okay, but not in this case.
I have one, it's just finding the sweet spot is all.
Hence why they suggested sidechaining. Cuz finding it on an EQ is possible but time consuming.
Yeah for sure I feel you bro
I am def saving these drums as a template these are fun.
BTW Im using EZD3 for drums. The guitars were Soldano. And the bass was a mix of Parallax and Darkglass.
yeah those drums sound sick ezdrummer is an amazing plugin
bit too much verb on that snare and its a bit off time
its a little too human
reminds me of karnivool
I've been listening to In Verses non stop on repeat so I take that as compliment!
nice
i like afterimage and thermata the most
i know afterimage is northlane but idc
I think it sounds more like one Rabea's other project The Totemist.

Ironically I got into Karnivool because of Rabea.
oh lol
oh yeah
a bit
fucking nolly mixes
Whats wrong with Nolly mixes? Also Nolly didn't mix The Totemist, that said, Nolly and Rabea are friends and he has been teaching him.
i hate nollys mixes
they just all sound the same
same snare sample, same mixing
all the instraments sound seperate
and cold
i like the guy who mixed those old rob zombie and manson albums they all have similar a vibe
powerman 5000
I get ya. While I don't care for his mixing outside of Periphery, can't help but give the guy props for his talent. He definitely has a sound.
Terry Date?
Yeah I think that's the guy
Terry is more known for early Deftones. But he did produce the last White Zombie album and the first Rob Zombie album. Terry was only on 1 Powerman 5000 album.
Powerman 5000's big album had Sylvia Massy (who did Tool's Undertow) and Ulrich Wild.
Early Manson was done mostly by Trent Reznor.
nolly's mixes are fine, just not for me
i also don't like how high he tunes his snares
give me a low snare
give me FOP
I think Misha is the better mixer between the two.
idk if i've heard his mixes
Have you listened to Haunted Shores? His project with Mark Holcomb?
Nopers
Also Misha mixed the very first Animals As Leaders album.
Ahhh. Listen to some Haunted Shores. All that stuff is mixed by Misha.
Demo with vox
Probably gonna redo the intro but I really like how the last part sounds
Kinda cooked with that riff
low tuned guitar riff go brrrr
Sickk
Snare and kick need to come down i think
And i need to blend the snare betyer
maybe better
nvm i want more snare body it feels wimpy now
turned the drums down -3db
pre production and pre vocals hyperpop bc i got bored
So I figured out what the issue was. Theres a number of double hits on the hi-hat that makes it sound like the timing is thrown off but it isn't.
At least I think that's the issue.
But it's a problem I've experienced before, it sometimes happens with EZD.
ohh weird
with humanization i prefer to do it directly in the midi so i can perfectly adjust what hits i wanna humanize
plugins doing humanization sucks to me cause you don't have control over it
Yeah it's really weird. EZD actually does humanization of shells really well. But when it comes it cymbals its a bit funky. Thankfully they make it real easy to fix.
Sometimes the cymbals are off by like half a second too whitch means they also need to be nudged a bit.
been trying new plugins
idk shit about music theory, not even chords so it doesnt sound that cool but it was fun to do lol
stradivari violin?
Yep
good plugin!
Indeed
Started really experimenting with sounds and started mixing my two favourite genres - metal and hip hop. Sorta still leaning how to mix on each song kinda on the fly but current mix of the newest project (sorry for the abrupt start I just sorta bounced it in the middle of the verse)
Bruh
My fuck ass guitar down tuned sounds like a bass with a better tone than my actual bass lol
Wow i should try mixing my 2 fav genres too it could be very cool
i fucks with this
very beefy guitar tones. sounds brutal
how to fix my mix? is it the tones or should i take something off. note that I'm not going for that modern Buster-y sound, but a tight (2015's Reflections & After The Burial) sound. what do you guys think?
Hey guys im Onagi. I play in a band called Sweetland. I have this track called No Hearse Can Keep Us Apart on my bandcamp. Its 13:37 of sad doom with a burst of weird death metal in the middle.
I did an acoustic cover of the song minus the dm part.
Here's the video.
The original can be listened to here...
Sweetland.bandcamp.com/track/no-hearse-can-keep-us-apart
Thanks 🙂
alpha wolf
in the breakdown, make the china half time
its too mid scooped and quiet
ad in some mids, and make it louder
yeah what anti said, needs a lot more mids, guitar sounds like it's only treble. Give that guitar some body!
I can definatly hear the potential here
definatly 🔥
want honest feedback?
Sure why no
- vocals are extremely loud compared to everything else
- was your guitar mic'd in a room? if you're micing up an amp, you need to use a room with a more dampened sound. There's too much room noise in the guitar and it's pretty noticeable
- Drums need to be much much louder
I get the idea you're going for
There's a lot that needs work!
But if you get those three things it would sound significantly better!
I also think less mids would sound a little better on your guitar tone
Guitars done like Thao on purpose
Not sure what that is
But yeah vocals suck indeed
The vocals don't suck, your tone is fine, i think the low layer could be removed
They are recorded through the Audio interface and then I reverbed em
I want em to sound like rhat
They are just way louder than everything else haha
Mmmm alright
I think like that, you lose note clarity and it sounds too busy
But if that's what you're going for, more power to ya
Gonna try to mix it better when I re record it cause I deleted it lol
oh haha
Kind of I want kind of
How to describe it
I can send a few songs
With the kind of guitars I'm going
sure
It's not really grunge
Hard to tell
Send an example here
Ahh see on the second example, the guitars sound a lot closer, less reverb, and less screechy high-mid freq
it moreso just fills up the mids smoothly
is your drum bus clipping?
something is clipping
snare also sounds pretty narrow
Id say the hardest challenge is making sure you have the proper vocal style (if youre a vocalist) or experience writing both genres and just experiementing. When I started with hip hop/metal(or rock) I had to change my singing accent and pronounciation to properly fit the music. me personally very few metal bands (If any at all) can actually pull off the "right" vocal style for it. And the ones that do are more hip-hop oriented vocalists.
My 2 fav genres are hardcore and dariacore
hell yeah go for that shit then pop out twin
Dariacore is basically jane remover entire music
I have tried dariacore
Let me send sum
Vocals arent by me
It reminds me of a bmth but I can't remember what it is but its sick asf I mess with it
Honestly I've found the easiest way to mix genres together is pick the more popular (or one that would be more... listened too by a wider genre) and just add elements from the other genre, like chord progressions, just themes of the other genre but with the sound of the popular genre
Voicewise?
That would be sick
si
nah lol
I used clipping on the guitar
the drums sound like they're clipping
smol solo
insane tone
Ty
appreciate it a lot! yea this is some doodle i wrote just to try my mixing. i'll post re-rend soon !
how about now? the difference is noticeable, but for the better, what do you think?
Lmk what you guys think of this tone, its the plini amp with thall amp together with an octaver, it sound so chunky to me
Something I started on tonight
praying the chugs boom a bit
I need to turn up thr guitars a fuckton
turned guitars up
what arrangment is cooler
I'm rarely happy with my vocal performances but I kinda like this bit
ramstien first or last
strange, reminds me of the illumination intro
Please turn down the tube sounding thing and maybe throw some verb on it so it’s not so up front but i fw the second arrangement more
Lmao
tube?
Personal taste but i dislike how upfront it is
Deal
becuase it is
its not my song, the artist wants it loud so
I really like how the Waltz part ended up
i see
Gonna change the ending
I want to make the song drop tempo with every hit of guitar and then add piano
And maybe some horns
I need to kill something on the guitars in the high mids i hate how much pick noise comes through on the trem part
Holy shit i love this
Mix needs work but i really like thag
Me too lol
It's random as hell and that's why I love it
Yeah I can't mix for shit
Especially when there's a lot going on like in this song
A lot of vocal layers
Choir
Horns
Yeahhh it makes sense that it’d be hard to mix, @ me when you have a better mixed version for sure
Bc i really mess with that vibe you got going on
IF I have one
Not sure I will
I'm gonna try but I doubt I'll make it much better
Send me those stems
@tribal orbit how do i soften the guitar pick noise? it feels very harsh on my speakers
working on an indie/pop mix!
@formal hedge .
how do i find the cymbals in SSD5?
Do I just send the OHs to the cymbal output then?
all cymbals should go to the overhead channel (st.4/output 4) unless you want to spot-mic the hihat, china, or ride
which i don't really prefer to do but it's up to you
if you want spot mics, you'll need more outputs to send those spot mics to
drums are much too quiet although guitar sounds quite a bit better!
vocals somehow are pretty muddy and fill up the 200-300hz range too much
is there any EQ on your vocals?
Nope
There's no eq on anything
Nope
We've just added a new video tutorial by Dan Worrall. This time he explains the fundamentals of EQ'ing in a mixing situation, starting with the basic shelf, cut and bell shapes as found on a hardware console, to precision EQ'ing using a modern plug-in like FabFilter Pro-Q 2.
start here!
EQ is an extremely valuable tool and you should never neglect using it
I'll check tomorrow
It's already late for me

any advice on how i can edit the drum mix so that they hit harder without making them clip? i keep trying to give em more power but they keep clipping (especially on the toms for some reason). also im considering turning down the cymbals but im not sure if i should
take a look at this
@solemn mesa
proper EQ and compression
none of your drums seem EQ'd to fit your mix

When it comes to metal drum mixing, there's a problem with modern digital recording...
It's too clean. Too harsh and just plain sterile-sounding.
This problem is ...
the goat lol
kontakt is the worst..

great drum walkthrough
i think i forgot how to write a riff
Zeros my beloved lol
0000000-000000-000000-00000
Type shit
you may have done the steps in the wrong order
was there a dialog window offering to create 64 outputs?
nope i made a track and loaded kontakt into it
yup
Hm
through the insert virtual instrument
Looks like you have kontakt portable, is there something different about your kontakt installation?
not really except the fact that its not licensed one
btw not to the topic but how do i select multiple tracks at once
cause im deleting em by one like a dumb lol
select one track, hold shift, then select another track
I think those aux tracks are still usable, they're just named different
Just make sure in your kontakt that you are still able to route to them
The track name doesn't really matter as long as you can still send them audio
thats the problem
here
it only shows one track
the st one
yeah hit the little plus
add new channels up to st.5
since st.1 is 1/2, you'll want to add 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, and 9/10
Cool!
something like that?
yeah now you should be able to route them out
you may need to reload the drum library
lemme try
should i put overhead into the room channel too?
overhead should go into overhead channels
save that configuration as default or you would have to do it again after restarting kontakt in another project
