this sounds pretty tight tbvh
Idk why but I got Pantera vibes.....
how can i improve the mix?
its pretty bad rn
and ignore off time playing ill fix it eventually
the idea sounds pretty good
tho id suggest u to change the snare
its prolly just me but the snare sounds a bit weird for me atleast
and i expect some WIDE af distorted guitars after this lmao
Hi all! This is the 2nd single of my band (streaming in 1 week), where i'm doing the mix/master/production/songwriting. What do u think, what can I improve on the next one? Hard to get any feedback on my local area so I appreciate anything😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1OkTgIiPJ0

sorry got distracted by the keyboard and forgot to listen
sounds good to me (also bad at writing solos lol)
u can barely listen anything its recorded from a potato webcam
i also have a shit webcam angle i get it lol

I'm working on a new song, I'm about halfway through it now.
I'm also looking for a vocalist for it if anyone wants to DM me

Random ahh breakdown
cool
kinda glam metal/sludge metal vibes i think
mixing-wise there's not really a thing i could suggest
a short proof-of-concept of a remix of "border of life", one of my favorite boss themes
Fire!
In a mix with drums and cool vocals it will be absolutely awesome
hell yeah i’m gonna try and start putting some stuff together

I think you should practice playing to a metronome.
I'll be honest bro, the challenge you're attempting is insane, so props for doing it in the first place, but I'm of the opinion that you don't possess the baseline prerequisite skills to go through with it. What I'm hearing from this one and your previous ones is that it's more Quantity than quality right now, and when you're starting out, your prime focus should be improving quality.
This challenge is good when you can consistently put out a decent quality demo/track and are trying to improve your efficiency
or if you're trying to boost your creative output through restrictions
Like squeezing the end of a water hose to shoot the jet much further and with much more force
But you don't need to worry about squeezing the hose rn, you need to focus on (to continue with the analogy) turning the tap and increasing the amount of water (creative output in a qualitative sense) coming through the hose in the first place
If you want a challenge like this, I suggest joining Trey Xavier's discord, he regularly hosts songwriting contests where he tells you what things like BPM, style, unique aspects to the song, provides a drum track, and all you need to focus on is writing a song with all of that, takes away a lot variables and allows you to focus your energy
Thanks for those opinions, but i'm really having fun doing it and that's the point for me, so it's okey what i'm doing.
If it was a recording for an album it would be more carefully recorded obviously cause I will spend more time in it. I will explain it.
But even that said, I'm very happy with what I'm creating there.
1 riff or song concept each day! 1 hour (25 minutes in the 2 first ones...) to think the idea, recording, mixing, mastering, upload, etc. cause all we have other thing to do in the day...
So... I know I'm doing experimental / avantgarde / djent / thall & even trapmetal in this last one, so it's not for everyone 😛
I'm playing guitar for more than 25 year, I have been in 3 bands (2 metal and 1 reggae), and I have live concerts several times with those ones and other colaborations with other artist, everytime having good performances.
I enjoy every of those recordings a lot, listening them several times, traveling and fliying between the space of conciouss and dreams, thinking, feeling and evolving. If u don't like them, it's okey. Each music reach some people, not everyone, music taste it's subjective.
I'm improving my creativity & recording / mixing / mastering skills by doing this challenge, and also having fun and enjoying the music I'm creating, extrange music, okey, but it's also a wild challenge, so i'm proud xD
For last, I remark that the process of recording an album of 10 songs takes months of work creating songs and recording those and so... normaly made for various persons... so...
Even when I have in mind the recording is not perfect, I like what I'm doing and honestly I enjoy a lot learning trought this process and listening several times each project. I think the ideas with I come are insane, the sounds, the noises, the concepts and also the challenge itself.
So, I will keep attaching to the project and having fun even it's not perfect.
The "perfection" will arrive when I would get ready for recording by myself a real album or single
That's fair. I trust your process, to me it just sounded very odd. Maybe that's what you're going for, not sure. If you enjoy your recordings, then I shouldn't speak because that's ultimately what it should be for.
Yes, I'm playing with the mind making it very odd sometimes, but I admit for the less it's only lack of time to make it better.
But at the end it's a challenge to improve ourselfs learning skills by making song concepts in very few time, so... it's okey.
- When I will make a single or album you will notice a better quality overall, despite of the genre, but this is another thing
(a thing that is enjoy-able for me and other people who tell in youtube and so 😉 )
Make music, make mistakes, learn and show it to the world in the path of getting better.
That's why I learn from some artists like mononeon bassist and others.
Music is, in part, to have fun making and playing it
(play is the verb, dont? hehe)
Take whatever resonate with you from this:
Indeed no, but those are in my backround for the path of creativity and getting better 😉
But like I said, a single or album will take more time so it would be better in terms of recording quality and so 😄
155bpm
i did all that nothing happened at first you need to take actions
If you guys think anything sounds weird lmk, but I think I did a good job mixing the vocals, drums, and guitar
@tiny trout check this shit
I might use it as an album intro or finish it as a track.
I'll try to continue it tomorrow.
it sounds like a trailer bg track of star wars or dune or any intergalactic themed scifi movie
(I always wanted to write soundtracks)
good work
i think u acheived that
Thanks
Maybe I'll even make a video with a cut of the film to this music.
sure why not
send me the link when u do
@shut igloo
Not the final version yet and in poor quality so Discord will let me send it
Tomorrow I'll make the track longer and make a better video
AYO
cool shit
coming from me (a deathcore addict) i'd and a "YYYYYYGHOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" blast beats + crazy ahh guitar intro after that
YES ALBUM INTRO
bro album intro with those vibes are always the sickest
cool sounds man!! love this doomey vibe
Always wanted to make soundtracks but this is probably my best attempt haha
Maybe I'll add a choir here too.
A female choir could sound epic
I’ve been playing for 6 months I can’t tell if the notes are clean or nah (my rhythm could be better Ik)
also little synths snippet of the next song's melody
It's worth a try
adhd in one song
pretty solid tbvh
some hard hitting epicah drums
would sound awesome
when there is pan shot of destrution if that made any sense
feels like everyday
It's definitely something
its only some random idea and its not finished, so keep that in mind
No adhd noticed, where hyperpop breakdown with jazz trumpet?
the vocals sound really unique
In the good, or bad way?
in an interesting way ive never heard smth like that before
but i think pair it with some high good produced track
and it will slap hard
if that made any sense
Like i said, its just a demo, so it will be definitly be better
well good luck i see potential
I think the vocals could be way better if i could do some, i can't sing or scream
I want to take some vocal lessons, to get some skill, but in my city there is no way to find any
this is the chorus
and a harmonised tapping part will be played over this
i ahve the lick that i gotta play idk why but its sound wasnt recorded in this
hail c drop
this is the idea of chorus
i decided to give my post-punk project a break and try my hand at some metal, first time producing my own metal. any feedback is welcome!
https://rugburnga.bandcamp.com/track/wages-of-blood-2
What do you think of this mix?
Chorus plus breakdown idea
Aaaand just a caveman breakdown
tbvh the guitars sound like songsterr guitar tone
I can hear it now aaaaaaaah
Should I go back to that tone?
id try to go for periphery's tone
crazy punch at the end
haha cool idea
im trying to get more into technical stuff thanks to @runic adder lol
idk what to do man i can produce a lot of genre. im so fucked
i feel u m in the same boat
good that im not alone
if that made any sense
hahaha
yes
spice up the drums and this will sound 100 times better
smth technical
i dont have the vsts to do that :/
how do u program?
do u not have midi presets?
What do you guys snare of that think ?
need more body, try to layering it with another snare
i usually layer 2-3 snare,
and sometimes with a pink noise to make it cut through
for me, mixing snare is the hardest things
made something kinda dumb kinda heavy. any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
I was exactly going for that body-less type of snare tho
its kinda buried in the mix, maybe it needs more attack transient to cut through
When the guitars go REEEEEE?
why do your vst guitars sound more robotic than mine? what did u use?
inspo: heavensgate, surgeon, rekak, reflections
I didn't do any humanization. I use MetalGTX by Unreal Instruments and Argent by Impact Soundworks mainly. I have Odin 3, but it sounds like ass to my ears when I use it
updates
different mastering
made the lead guitars a bit louder
made the kick and snare louder for it to cut through the mix
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lFkwezbusQL6NjAIaquQeTTBTWvDuUhy/view?usp=sharing made some stuff heavily inspired by paleface's new album
the main riff is so bouncy
the verses
Here is the drums to something I am working on and no this isnt all of the drums
Damn
Me when there’s a spider in my hair
tell me if its good or not, im loosely trying to sound like knocked loose
It's hard to tell from this fragment, but it sounds pretty good
i'm currently recording vocals and trying do the arf arf from counting worms
i mean it does sound like suffocate
I think I just summoned something 💀
Tbh I don't know why reversing the vocal tracks works so well
Or why nobody thought of doing it lmao
I thought it did, but I’m in f# standard
unprocessed ahh riff (ignore sloppy playing)
Me when no messaging in a while so song
still need to add real bass and finish drums but ye
@wooden portal my fren lmk
Feedback: don’t play tool lol
Jk, sounds fine to me. It’s a bit of a shorter clip and I don’t know the song all too well, but you seem to have it down
it's just the intro rn, I think when i get home from school I'll learn the rest
but thanks man
Is the bass to loud?
BASS IS NEWER TO LOUD🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
I see you are wise
Amazing, I'm so glad someone's talking about tool LET ALONE AN UNDERRATED SONG 🔥🔥🔥
THANK YOU
Defnitely a fun one to play, you should learn the rest it's not too hard
If you learn more of the song, I might record bass over yours✨
I've never played this song but I like it.
heck yeah man, I'm learning the rest tonight so we can jam fs
heh i havent mixed too much yet
The clank is a bit much, but considering the 13 bass layers I did as a joke, it's not too bad
HELL YEAH🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅
More bass
Bassist approved
hell yeah
bass
nope, sounds sick
personally I think the clank is fine where it is
I like it (im a bassist)
My bro
2 midi basses, 3 synth basses, 1 sub bass and 7 different processes to mix the recorded bass track (I couldn't decide which processes I preferred so I just enabled them all)
As a vocalist, I like loud basses in mixes
TRUE
More bass, more layers, more good
I like it. It does need a little more drum licks, it seems a bit "formal". I think it could use a longgggg riser starting somewhere at the part 1:27 to build tension. It might help with a few synths or sounds to fill in the space in the background. That riff is catchy though,
Which bass group? 1 makes the guitars thicker, but 2 complements the mix better.
With just Bass group 2
2 def sounds the best imo
always compliment teh mix imo
sure, funky tones are cool, but most people will notice if it sticks out like a sore thumb
Maybe I could blend group 1 with the guitars or with the synths
That could work, thought right now it's too muddy
imo
like it's too engine-like yknow?
(group 1 is from the actual bassist of my band and group 2 is my midi bass 😬 )
Was group 1 DI?
No
Gojira on bass
My bass uses the free vst amps "The Growler" and "Bass Professor" along with a tonn of other processing
I think it sounds good, just needs more work to mix well
HAhahahah
the super high gain on gojira makes it sound so washed out and the eq is super... top-heavy?
like it sounds like radio chatter imo
The low end is DI on bass 1
I think the biggest issue is there's too much gain on it
less is more
only use the amount you need to get that distortion, any more and it gets muddy and staticy
testing out the ggd slammers
That's awesome
fixed it (REAL)
It was noting a few ring modulators couldn't fix
I like it, reminds me of like old internet yknow
a little top end heaby but ye!
should have added fart machine to top it off
I should have done that!!!!!
fuckin lmao
I actually did fix it with a very simple eq and volume change and now it mixes seemlessly with the guitars
did you chop the treble or something?
Choped high and low end, only kept the mids and reduced volume by 5db
Now it only makes the guitars THICCC
I think the snare could afford a little more trebble/presence
YIPPIE
you wanna hear some crap I threw together with midi?
YES
Very punky-posthardcore meets metalcore and nu-metal. I like
tyty
I have been trying to write a new song for a bit, so I'm glad it's at least coming along
It sounds great honestly! Like, the vision is there and now it needs some actual instruments (or at least guitar)
I too have been trying to write lately and failing... I don't know how to take what's in my head and put it down.... It's sort of like swancore/prog-posthardcore meets melodic thall... which isn't really something I've heard before... So here's a lick I managed to write down
written in midi because I can't play guitar.....
I see the vision
I have trouble keeping time with it, but I can see some super heavy rhythm to go along with the high lead
Somehow it's just basic 4/4, but a little syncopated
Really?
damn
maybe I;m cooked
lmao
sounds cool though. I'm not huge into swan core and all that, but that idea is neat
let's put myself in the pit..Black metal oriented, volume to 11 please
The Growler is a goated plugin
I found a free bass overdrive plugin i use with it that gives my an awesome tone
My bass chain is like 90% free stuff that are objectively better than paid stuff
mid and high frequencies with a little of the low frequencies
This is for the low-end. Everything above 100hz is cut out
BASSSS2 is what it sounds like
Mine isn't quite that complicated, but it does the job
I like using the clean 808 for the sub bass stuff, makes for a really solid bass
What exactly does it do?
Basically, it replaces the super low frequencies on the bass by a mostly clean sine wave, which makes the whole low-end much more stable and clean
Sweet
Is it free?
808 cooker no, but there are plenty of 808 synths that are free
Yeah I think I have one
https://soundcloud.com/sleeplessmaliceband/blackghoat-human-sacrifice-1/s-yWf7ltGmdLV?si=93fcb84fd0c242ae9835f49f50759ead&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing Made this not added vocals to it just instrumentals
Thallgaze band from Maine
THERAPY SESSIONS Out Now
Lol I just forgot to cut that out hahahaha
if edging was a metal term :
wip remake/redo of an old project which was a remix of a theme called "wind god girl"
imo the guitar sometimes sounds a bit off tempo for me
more presence in snare, more bass in kick
Oh hey, touhou
Awesome!
You have to teach me how to do synths like that it's really cool
use a plucky synth patch of your choice and add the percussions shaperbox preset on it
Made something pretty sick I think
Working on music production, this my first full song
Damn, for a first song, this is awesome
thank you! im lucky cause i have a teacher to help me with production and ive been working on it for awhile
I just listened to this track and it was fire
Thank you ✨
Still working on it but here is almost the final version, only without vocals and slightly unfinished
Cool!
well im excited to hear it when its done!
What do you think of this synth tone?
In the mix
It's to make the whole thing sounds more aggressive
I like how it tickles my ears
I think that sounds great, i like how its subtle but adds to it at the same time
I tried to mix those drums, what do you think?
pretty punchy, i like
i added some strings onto my original track from the music production channel, and i like it but i feel like it could be better
Better in what way?
i feel like the strings sound a bit flat like they might need something
its probably partially just that theyre free so theyre not the best quality
funky ahh breakdown
god i love these ringy snares
the bass guitar should be turned up imo, fire ass breakdown nonetheless
update
here it is
And this
I'd like to have a channel for general videos
that one is already starting pretty cool
We are currently working on vocals for them
ooo nice
This one will be a single that will be released soon and the one above will be on the album that will be released a little later
its getting a bit djenty
good stuff good stuff
you know i really like the guitar tone in some way
It's pretty weird lol
But yeah in some way it doesn't sound bad
its kinda calming actually, i dont know why
The main inspiration is bands like Sleep Token, Vildhjarta and other Djent/Thall things
But also death metal and much more
last 10 seconds are really cool
im still waiting until vildhjarta drops something
Same
Rumor has it that there will be a new album by Sleep Token this year which I am very happy about but Vildhjarta would be damn cool too
At least a single
Thanks ✨
im really split on sleep token actually. like some of their stuff is cool but im also kinda on one side with the people that say they dont use their pacing well. used to stream the fuck out of vore in 2023 but rn i just lost interest in their music
Well for me they are one of my favorite bands and main inspirations even though my music has little in common with theirs lol
thesy sure have some stuff that i can see inspire people
maybe im also biased because of the whole premise with vessels beliefs
though i dont know if its like a storyline for the bands image or if he actually believes in this goddes
I would say it's just a story
For greater band atmosphere
maybe, we'll never know
it just always caused a conflict in my head whether or not i should listen to music where another god is worshipped (i'm christian btw) so i just kinda decided to stop listening to them
Oh well I don't associate music with this
And I'm an atheist, so it's not a problem for me
But I understand your choice
if you ask me, I'm pretty sure Vessel doesn't genuinely believe in this Sleep goddess, it's for story purposes kinda like how they call their concerts "rituals"
metalcore track I'm working on, thoughts?
I turned it into melodic deathcore
@tribal orbit hows my mix on this one?
.
I'd listen to that
finally recording vocals, doing scratch takes to warm up and better perform for the proper takes, what do you think?
a lot better than when you started. The mix is a bit too bottom heavy tho
the lead is a little muddy. The vocals could do with a little less mid focused overdrive
Bass has become my shit i like the booms what can I say
it soudns liek it's peaking at almost every syllable
fair, but I think it's taking away from the rest fo the mix
Okay in fairness this was all recorded on my jackson and was octaved down to drop A bc my strings are too brittle to tune down i am NOT risking that n i didn’t have my epiphpne with the heavy gauge my buddy has it cuz his guitar is broken rn
I think thats where most of the mud comes from
I tried my best to counter it by trying to sharpen the tone a bit i think i did an okay job compared to the original signals at least
Tell me that breakdown would have hit harder with less bass tho i mean
I think despite the flaws still my best mix to date
So i’m doing something right
Also easily my best vocal mix i feel like and performance
It is the best so far, but it def could use some fixin'
This one
aight
super early mix/recording
trying out a new pedal, gotta figure out how to get it nice and lined up in my chain
hey, im currently working on a song for a new album, any feedback on production/drum programming would be much appreciated
1st i think this is more metalcore instead of deathcore
and pls tell hows the mix and all
ohhhh shiiiit
i like this
mix-wise, i don't really have any complaints at the moment (except maybe raise the high end of the snare a little bit so that it kinda pops better IMO)
you should add bass since the mix sounds empty without it
also raise the volume of the guitar a significant amount since it's buried beneath the drums
double track the guitar so it sounds wide
update
altered the snare, do you prefer this Lamb of God-ish snare or the older one?
there is bass bro
and guitars are double tracked as well
made breakdown a bit longer
i wasn't replying to you
oh
sorry if there is any misunderstanding
my bad bro
no worries
didnt see xD
can u guess the tuning of this track?
drop c tuning?
okay updated tones, rerecorded everything. I have ear fatigue now so idk how good this actually sounds
I think there are like a few frequencies I gotta cut but ye
@wooden portal wut u think my friend
?
yea
The drums overpower almost everything. The guitar and bass are like almost entirely inaudible. The kick is... really really loud and sounds overly fast/fake
@dusk siren what daw do you use?
I use garageband atm
Yeah I'm gonna turn down the double kick and make the drums less loud
Its not just like loud, it's also like entirely unplayable in parts from what I could tell
I'm trying to understand how to work reaper atm but I just find it too hard cus I've used garageband for over 2 years now so it's a bit of difference from what I'm used to
I getcha. I've kinda just stuck to Ableton, so if you showed me a new DAW, I'd probably be lost for a while
you should expose yourself to it however hard it may be
it was very confusing at first but once you get used to it its so so worth it
itll be way better than garage band
Yeah it's just the keys and so many tabs on it that make me confused most of the times
Yeah I just didn't know what to do even from the tutorials I watched cus it just looked so confusing lmao
imo, the easiest to learn is Ableton
ableton is nice
but thats me being biased + it's expensive as shit
that reminds me, I gotta upgrade to 12 at some point
fair i was just saving the blasts until later down the song tho so dont worry 🗿
no you werent joking, and you were totaly right not gonna lie
just need to figure out that special sauce still
needs more treble and obnoxious amount of compression and reverb
almost like a metal pipe sfx
Just started dabbling in this genre and sound design techinques, am i on the right path?
Over all ye
Guys did I cook or burn (not final, Blitz is missing clean vocals)
this is another mix
ive increased snare vol and add some risers and all
i think cymbals should be lowered
pls someone critique this
I don’t have headphones rn, but just from my speakers, it sounds plenty good
what bout the sound of cymbals?
Didn’t stand out too much? But again, on speakers. Will listen when I have access to headphones
anyone up?
Cymbals too loud yeah
The songs lacking a lot of mid freq too
Too bassy and too trebley
So everything has punch and scratchiness but no real clarity
guys I'm gonna jump out my window. My brain hurts from this stuff
this is pretty neat feels like OG In Flames
tyty
eh fuck it i'll post my latest demo, feel free to rip me to shreds
like i said i'm having trouble trying to tie the song structure together
or be consistent
I think a drum fill at 0:46 ish would help tie those parts together
maybe a bass slide as well?
if i could figure out how to make midi bass slide, yes
Also I am having such an issue with making a guitar tone for my baritone
but the reason i didn't drum fill that was i wanted the vocals to transition
shit always sounds wrong I swear
whatchu usin homie
that's fair. I think if you hold that last syllable longer with some ping pong delay on the half note it'd work?
uhhh shit dude, it's a big chain
I think I have Fortin Nameless for the Hex pedal, fed into Omegaampworks grano-whatever for teh amp, then the cab sim is the Mesa Boogie
hmmm
that should be good honestly
i'd say play with the cab sims
granophyre afaik is great for certain high-bass heavy tones which should work for the baritone
It's lacking that punch I should be getting. It's always scratchy(?) for lack of a better term
hmm
like high-mids and treble, even after EQing on both the amp and post-cab
It's always the Baritone. I don't have this issue at all with my other two guitars
tried that too
even used my physical ABR-1 pedal
same exact issue
I cannot diagnose it for the life of me
maybe I just have a fucked pickup
is it an active pickup
Passive, but it;s the alumatone deathbucker P-90 shape
which should have the same output as my Explorer which has the deathbuckers too
i've never even heard of that lmao
yeah all i can say is play with the cab sim
if it lets you adjust mic/mic positions do that too
one thing i've really noticed is certain mics are terrible at bass great at trebles and vice versa
I use my modelling amp as a pre-amp kinda dealio before feeding it into my audio interface
My baritone and my otehr guitars have different pre amp pre-sets
guess what I forgpt to fix on the baritone one?
The fucking treble and mids where set too high cuz I was doing a lead tone once and accidentally overwrote the old pre-amp settings
I'm boutta an hero fr
@inner sedge It's fixed. Finally
I just EQ'd the DI and that seemed to help
i increased the highs on the overall mix a bit
I think if you worked on the mids it'd be a better decision tbh
like it feels like the entire mix is scooped instead of just on the guitars
and the guitars are too scooped
no i write everything on my own almost everything i have a couple of presets
still working on the cleans
kinda off lol
so basically
decrease the vol of cymbals
decrease highs
increase mids a bit
right?
also i wanted to know if the snare vol is alr
Bass, too
like your track is almost built like -v-
isntead of like ---
if that makes sense
yea i got it
lemme try smth
might change the tone too
what bout this
snare was fine? I think you could EQ it better but it's not like sticking out like a sore thumb like the cymbals
m pretty bad at eqing drums
i dont even know how divide the ez drummer 3 kit in multiple channels in mixer and process them seperately
i just have ideas and m trying to record
make multiple instances
Google is your friend, too
well
yeah fucking around and finding out
I need tips for how to improve the mix for this
something is off but idk what it is
Latest instrumental
https://soundcloud.com/dspexe/foolsscratch?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing tear me apart
Fender Strat into logic stock plugins can totally be heavy
Me when I can;t hit the chorus melody notes for shit so I decided to keep it as violin and scream instead :(
Rhythm too loud, same with bass. Drums too quiet. Lead is fine but quiet. Overall mix is very dark, brighten it up
I mean it sounds great! Could you hit it in your head voice? Or maybe do a low harmony on it. Or both
It's in the weird mid-range where if I try to do my head voice, it's too high
but if it try my chest voice it's too low
usually why I don't do songs in Am
that entire scale is fucked for me for some reason
I know that feeling... I have two songs right now my band wrote in a key that is in my weird mid range where it's too high to be soft, but too low to be belted
word i've never been great at mixing, any critiques of the writing itself
You could try it low and accent it with screams
My best are C, D and E
B is iffy
B major is fine, but B minor is off
idk why
Can't get volume/power behind my lows in A
Try with a very soft low layered with harmonies
This one is in my comfortable range, but still a little low (or high) in some parts, so I layered it a tonne
Still, I do find it's one of my best choruses I've written
I considered it, but it doesn't match the vibe of the song. That and I currently only have a dynamic mic. Not great for softer vocals
Based
sounds sick
Your mixing has gotten a lot better!
"DEVASTATION"
Demo. No mixing yet. Mostly placeholders atm for sketching. Thoughts?
this is awesome. I love the chorus
the chord progression is just immaculate
Health like instrumental
I wrote dis in like half an hour came out better than expected tbh. first take isn’t horrible too. 4th year into guitar
EPICAH
Hi there.
I would love to hear some feedback on our music.
I think we're doing great and "fun metal things", but only a few listen and almost noone comments. I always ask myself WHY it's not catchy enough to post something below our video or music.
I know, it's very weird to think that way, because I personally love our stuff and will probably just go on with it ... but maybe there is room for improvement.
It's german lyrics, so get on your Rammstein dancing shoes, but maybe also not, because it's nothing like RS.
Is there something with production? Is it feeling? Is it the vocals? What's off? Or is anything off?
Let's go with Alles Deins:

Intro track for my debut album.
Currently waiting to afford an audio interface and a nice guitar plugin (Gojira X), because I've realized that I simply can't push my Line-6 Spider further than I have. Looking forward to making shit that actually sounds good. 🙂
This is sick 🔥
Awesome 🤘
Thank you man appreciate it a lot
Any opinions/suggestions on the Mix?
very crisp idea
i assume this is a draft?
the clean part could be a bit different with clean guitars and ambient pads if that made sense
a bit of modern metalcore touch
distored vocals are pretty crisp
Not really, I was just bored and didn't know what to do so I wrote this down, it's unlikely to be used anywhere
Re recorded vocals
i wrote everything on my own (except the drums are samples)
One of my songs. Gonna re-record the guitars and change a couple things when I have the money for Gojira X and an audio interface.
i have an idea guys. its good for everyone. lets do an community Nik Nocturnal Album for the community! to listen on, to educate together! sent me a DM if you are interested. i search for members for my Music Team. And Studio. Especially mix & master engineers too. would love to hear from you.
what song is this
Uh, just waiting to afford Gojira X and an audio interface
Personally I think the guitar tone fits really well. Nothing against Gojira X but I prefer this.
Hm, might stick with it on this track then. Thank you!
sounds just right to me ngl
Howdy, dear Metalhead mates! Here GladiLord, a Metal/Portuguese music mashup producer! I wanted to share this, that I've mashed recently, containing a DEATHPHONK track, II, and a portuguese parody song, with inspiration from the infamous DBZ portuguese dub. Enjoy!
https://remix.audio/track/71623/cachalote-ii-bolore-vs-deathphonk
holy shit everything will freeze
proof of concept of something i made, it's somewhat rough in the mix and missing some melodies
influenced by The Afterimage, Feryquitous, and other Japanese rhythm game music
Really like it, sounds like something along a creepypasta. 🔥
Some random riff I wrote. To the audio gods out there. what tone changes should I make? This is just straight out amp btw
me when i lay dying:
awesome melodic metalcore btw
if possible you should work on the rhythm since the guitars kinda sound wonky
ooo
very chainsaw ish tone
it's great if you're doing melodic death metal (kinda like At The Gates' Slaughter of the Soul)
update
Yeah, I think I should re-record them
Damn sounds good
I like piano and synths
glad you liked it :D
Artcore metal should be done more often
This is so slick
That's fire
Vocals are sick
Particularly clean vocals
I've got this one too that's more scream focused dunno what u think
Now I'll finish listening to the first one and listen
Also sounds fire 🔥
But I like the first one more
Tysm
I was actually like happy with this riff
took me 4 years of playing 💀
Chord progression sounds like moonlight Sonata intro
The riff ideas are good but playing could get a bit better
Plus the bass tone no offence is trash
Could be way better
Even a clean tone with a bit of gain and decent compression might work
Bass tones in metalcore aren't they tuf
So u do vocals as well
?
Oh, yeah!
I've been doing vocals longer than I've been composing for
Might need your help in. A LOT OF TRACKS
I do production stuff and need a vocalist
Yes, I will still re-record the riffs, but I think I will leave the bass tone like this
Oh if u mean vocals I can't promise anything cuz I've got like 6-7 people already asking me for stuff and I kinda get oversaturated with requests xD
Well nobody knows a lotta metal vocalist so its pretty fair enough
If ure free and wanna do some projects for fun
M here
I have A LOT of tracks
That a lot is an understatement
And this slaps so hard
Here's the full version. I kinda went through like 3 different genres here lol for fun
Is this out smwh?
Ah yeah I made it for the Touhou themed Metal Doujin Circle, Holmgang Ov Gensokyo. It's a superband album with tons of dif artists. It's called Lunar Pareidolia. No Spotify yet (working on that), but it's on bandcamp atm
Is it on yt music?
Yea just look the name up it should be there
Alrighty
This is so going in my playlist
Touhou detected
didn't expect a Holmgang Ov Gensokyo artist here
Septette for the Dead Princess is a fucking banger. period
Hehe heyoo. Oh wow you actually know us :'D ?
Yee I started as a featured vocalist but graduated to composer too in the last album lol
I've heard of the name in passing but I'm afraid i haven't listened to the full songs, just brief snippets
but they DO sound really nice
Apparently a track from the 2nd album went viral in OSU
mrekk played it and all
woah
My Brain shortcircuited for a minute or so when I found the playthrough and heard my vocals coming from his stream audio
you're famous now :DDDD
ID GO BONKERS
exactly xD
The issue was we ain't got Spotify so the whole collective kinda panicked
why tho
oof
Cuz HOG got flooded with Spotify requests
it's such a painful feeling to see an artist unavailable on spotify
how I'd kill to see Demetori on Spotify for once
We've had some issues reaching out to some of the artists in the albums since we wanna do a proper split sharing and all that fancy yadayada stuff and it hasn't been set up yet. Maybe sometime
ohh valid
and other circles like CLOCKWORKS TRACER
also update
speaking of 2hu here's the most recent remix i've made

I did not make and i do not own this video, i only found the video and uploaded it from discord.
If you know who the creator is please let me know in t...
made this shit in like idk an hour
so the guitar playing is pretty shit
@hasty vale
it's quite generic but i mean it's still just a first attempt at it
it's not bad
idk i could mix it a little better
LMAO
idk if i can do slam vocals
proggy black thrash song
idk if this server fucks with stuff like this but ima send it anyways
That's pretty cool, I'm more personally into like Tech Death, Thall, Deathcore kinda stuff but I can fw that
My tastes are always changing, I had a black metal phase where I listened to nothing but Emperor and Dark Throne
I have an update on this gonna drop it in a sec
Got an actual name for it
This will also be like 4 ish mins long
me: mom can we listen to thrown?
mom: we have thrown at home
thrown at home:
good concept, gotta love the sirens
though i kinda feel the rhythm is hard to distinguish since the whooshes are kinda off-beat
though that's probably because the guitar isn't recorded yet
gonna bet it boutta sound good in the rapid double kick parts in 0:37 to 0:45, kinda gives me Fear Factory vibes
update
added a lil' break section and buildup after that
That's a bop
Them melodic fontttss and that piano r just so good
O shoot violin too
What solo violin r u using
I recommend checking out Virharmonic's Bohemian Violin V4 if u want an upgrade to super charge the realism
Excellent soundscape for burping

Oooh that's really pretty :0
Melancholic af too
I made a PACIFIC Test
short one to see how it works in conjunction with SeventhHeaven, or I might switch to Valhalla but I doubt it
And I also messed a bit with the mix for this thingy I was covering for practice. Added way more whiny-ness that I usually do for this style
ur welcome to use it as an intro or something i need instrumentals man i have to do songs but i cant write rhytms
God damn that snare fucking hits
What’s the mic setup look like? Is it top, bottom, rooms?
in odeholm drums it is just snare, rooms and verb, and I muted the verb within kontakt itself. Since I used the processed kit I didn't have to process the snare that much, I just added a little more transient attack and a ringy slammer sample triggering at every snare hit
this is insane
sorry for late reply
Joshua Bell Violin is the one i'm using
glad you liked it :D
IMMA NUT TO IT
the sequence of the track will be from the intro to chorus to verse
and ill add some transitional riffs between chorus and verse
and ive also written a breakdown
ps. this was recorded on phone
I ALSO USE THIS SEETING LMAO
Oooh that's some old gold
It's def top 3 at least
Final Concept. Done. I got permission to use this instrumental to record vocals on. LETS GO
Do people still dig Dubstep remixes?? heres an ADTR one i made go easy on me im new
Made an ambient piece
had writer's block while doing my artcore metal project so i decided to make a short bootleg of "BURR" by YNG Martyr. credits to him for the og song
it was a good opportunity to mess with drum tones and cool drum patterns alongside using EZDrummer's Rhythme Sauvage MIDI pack (that one with Mario Duplantier playing the rhythms)
discord cant pick up vox @kindred idol
anyone down to create an album?!
I think I'll use this breakdown in one of the next songs
I'll probably change it a little, but I'll leave the main idea like this
For variety, I made a random indie lol
"lyrics taken from the chatGPT because I was too lazy to write them just for fun"
I didn't know thanks for the heads up
Do you have any way I can send them in here?
kinda a personal thing but I'd make a small dip around 2.7k in either the guitars or cymbals
sounds cool tho
I'll try it out
I listened in the car and then I realized the bass was way too high
I wouldn't say way too high
it is a little high but not horribly so, maybe like 1db down should be fine
Alright
nah man totally welcome haha
Nice, I love writing drums ✨
if you got time check your dms
I don’t really want any feedback on mix since GarageBand is pretty limited I just want feedback on this whole part like instrumentally is it decent what’s good where can I take it and what needs a change
I do notice that the lead could definitely use a lil more tweaking volume wise but whatever
Daym this is hella good 7 string?
If not what string gauge you rock? cause I’ve been tryna tune lower without my strings stabbing my eye.
The way my jaw dropped
okay so, at this point it's a intro with a chorus right?. You can try a song structure like Intro/Chorus/Verse/Pre-Chorus/Chorus/Verse/Pre-Breakdown/Breakdown/Final Chorus to finish the song. Maybe for the verse just bass, drums and some leads. For a breakdown the good old 000s ^^
It’s a huge tdwp type song so I like that structure
Kinda fits with it
Definitely will throw a breakdown in there and will add some bass
Thanks for the feedback
I appreciate it :D
Sounds good and yeah some melodic core stuff will fit it ^^
No problem btw ^-^
Yeah, it's my Ibanez RG7
Explains a lot sounds really nice how much did it cost?
$450 usd
update
overall song structure approx. 80% done i think
oh man 🤤
that chug and arp on 2:08 is such a good combo
Found an old demo
trying to make some thall
i need to balance the mix asap
holy... how can u mix so perfectly like that
MySpace deathcore or early metalcore? The world may never know…
Toontrack EZmix does a substantial amount of heavy lifting, though that is not to say that mixing is very easy with EZmix. I still have to balance out the sounds so that none of the instruments overpower the others
IMO you need to have a good sense of sound, experience, listening to references, and gut feelings. Find out which instruments use a certain frequency range more than others (e.g. Electric guitar is very midrange centric). Pay attention to many albums and see how the mixing sounds; does the drum sound loud? Does it focus on the guitars? You also need some instincts; if something sounds off, you might wanna check it
I’ve heard a lot of good things about EZMix
Not a fan of it myself, but I also haven’t properly given any time to learning it
just started doing metal since dec, everything still sounded super midi-ish but planning to get better bass library and a guitar soon
idk what this is going to become but yeah uh tech death core ahh
kawaii core ahh
it doesnt sound all too midi its fine, its got a charm to it
new christmas periphery droped
both
(also ignore the mixing prolly being all over the place, i have the flu and my hearing is weird)
9 Strings of Shit
mixing heavy asl
Thanks!!
this low gutteral at the end was one take (i can do it longer than this btw. chester lenght gutterals? lol)
can someone say "wow thats realy brutal and cool or sumn" 🙏 😔
"it has exquisite toilet bowl qualities with a hint sewage drainage resonance on top"
👌🏻
Here be a thing, fellas. From a Scoring Suite I'm working on. Naught but a sketch at the moment
beeg signal braam
ong
elden ring ahh
is it? I've never played it so I dont know xD
idk im just making a generic orchestra comparison
not fully
but it sounds good tho
good asf
hopefully it'll sound nicer after I humanize the midi
I also updated my "DEVASTATION" demo thingy
damn 😭 thats fucking huge soundign
Need help idk I don’t like this part for obvious reasons
It’s a hell of a key switch and like it’s just not a good transition at all
All I need is a lil idea on what I can do
(I’m in drop B if it helps in the slightest)
the sound of me destroying my vocal chords lol
(im pretty sure i have a realy bad technique btw help pls)
What exactly does EZmix exactly mix? How do you use it?
Also BTW this is fucking sick.
Hell yeah bro this rocks.
Some of your guy's mixes are nutty stg.
You gotta get them drums to pop. Bring up 8k on those shells.
Dude sick af! The thing with the Line6 Spiders is that plugging em into the computer they sound actually not bad at all! They just came with shitty ass speakers in the combos.
The intro sounds a hell of a lot like Rain by Rob Scallon.
Well that was the inspiration
Ahhh that makes sense.
Yess
Dude I am always impressed by the shit you make. I need a full album from you.
Not a big fan of black metal but it's definitely creative mixing black, thrash, and prog I'll give ya that.
Well my only critque would be I don't think it fits with the chorus.
Welp might as well throw my hat into the ring. You are free to roast.
I ain't happy with the cymbals but they're always a pain in the ass to mix.
EZmix I think is like a mixing plugin that comes with several presets fit for different instruments, some of them curated by legendary producers like Bob Rock, Andy Sneap, Mark Lewis, etc
It saves a lot of work for amateur producers by taking a ton of mixing work off their shoulders
The downside is that you can't really customize it to the very fine details, which is a matter that experienced producers are concerned about i think
Close to the end it is reminiscent of Slaughterbox or Logistic Slaughter, hehe
it's like EZDrummer and Superior Drummer
EZDrummer comes pre-mixed so you can focus on writing drum parts while Superior Drummer has 250 GB+ of drum samples so you can fine-tune the tone to your liking
Ahh okay.
God i wish i could write orchestral music this good
i've been thinking of a Joe Hisaishi type piece that's calm and serene, maybe nostalgic
or I could go do a Bloodborne type piece that's dark and dramatic
I actually do some heavy mixing on EzDrummer (particularly the kick and snare). I didn't like the results from 2 (save for a select few things) but EZD3 is way more fun to mix as it seems much more raw.
yeah
I used to use GGD OKWs but they were a pain in the ass to mix even with the processing turned off (plus I wanted to mix and match drums) so EZD3 has been a dream. I only used 2 for a long time for writing.
Ah okay. I'm so used to mix everything myself especially since switching to EZD3 to drums. But I might try it out to see what happens!
Also btw all your shit is always sick.
You could try to research the basics and just go from
There are some awesome composers that post how to write pieces on yt
thanks :DDDD glad you appreciate it
yea i've been seeing some tutorials about orchestral music
@tribal orbit @swift slate @wicked berry @hoary heart

Look here's a good one
This is what separates the "noob" metal producers who try to do symphonic
From "pro" cinematic composers
And it's smaller things than you'd believe
cool, thanks!
90% of the time it's the library they're using and the lack of articulations
i've heard of Alex Moukala before because i watched him review some persona 5 and bloodborne music
Oh man he goes way back
He was doing tutorial series on how to do epic orchestral for like 7 years before that
and apparently he worked on some high-profile movies????
avengers endgame, edge of tomorrow
gosh DARN
I saw him go from a dude composing and doing orchestral covers in his bedroom
To someone who talks with Nobuo Uematsu and gets featured in AAA stuff

i've been looking through older projects of mine. This dates at 13 September 2022
I didn't know I cooked this early
I know what you mean. I wrote this 10 years ago. I recorded it 5. I just recently remixed it @hollow tulip
Thanks! I still have barely any idea what I'm doing when I mix. Your mixes are nutty tho.
same
when I mix it's either hit or miss
my experience has only guided me toward the hits but not at bullseye accuracy
Though I do think that that clean-sounding mix can be highly attributed to the drums
the drums IMO sound pretty crispy and since they're the backbone of a song it kinda elevates the other instruments to sound good
pay special attention to the cymbals since they give that special sheen at the high-end
Thanks for the advice. I tend to have trouble mixing cymbals due to my tinnitus and high frequency sensitivity.
no problem
