Man it’s been years since I used ezx death lol
I mostly use EZX kits
but do you have a preset for the kit? I would like to get Death and Darkness
but do you have a preset for it?
I do
can I have it?
I think even if I dont have the expansion pack I can swap the pieces out and use the processing
I do the processing outside of the preset
I just have the raw drums and routing
I found an old thing I made
i'm lowk trying to match someday came suddenly drum sound
but mine has too much ring
snare 20 + snare 17 + snare 12a
and scs sounds more woodier imo
https://www.dingusland.fun/cymbals @stiff raptor
Heard you talk about getting drum samples lately and this has a bunch of free ones that sound great
This one in particular sounds great
really they're all good just different tonalities
How many round robin and velocity layers?
I don't know what round robin means tbh
You can get the velocities from the beats he plays with each cymbal
its like slightly differently recorded samples that are played in a random order to prevent it from sounding like a oneshot
These are all cymbals
😭
gain reduction is $20 rn
guys i made bacteria music
beautiful
@stiff raptor @past shell how is this mix
I got Perfect Drums
it kinda reminds me of Robot Dog drums
this is the other kit I created
its also has a similar sound to the EZX Duality drums
I've used them for a long time til i got ssd4
I really like them with the processing I usually do
I can get the sound I was sorta hoping to get with BFD3
also unprocessed
snare needs some more high end crack, and more room
kick is a bit too subby
When someone's got a few minutes, can I get some advice? You can @ me don't be shy.
That's a really weird way of asking for advice 😭 but shoot your shot ig
@wise plume what's up
Lol sorry I'm super specific in many ways
& new to the discord so don't want to be that guy
literally just ask the question and someone will probably reply
no need to ask for a few minutes
But- I'm trying to track the rhythm parts in segments what software do you use?
Sounds good
yee what about it
reaper
I don't got a pc right now, & my laptops not modern & no SSD yet, will it run properly? Generally speaking
Yeah, reaper is very lightweight and runs better than most DAWs
especially on older hardware it should have an easy time
Perfect, appreciate it
why did i choose ableton 😭
Disableton
pov with litterally nothing playing in safe mode
brother
this is just as bad as fl studio
yeah but at least its not modeled after an orange strawberry
what a shit branding
why orange
and a stawberry
idk either it's just what they do
I got reaper going 👌
Yuhh
more than likely the only daw that will 😂
whatever works man
Hey the grind is the fun part, I'm just glad to actually get to throw the drums & stuff in with my guitar work now.
This guy shows you how to do most everything you'd need to
You're awesome, thank you
no problem
i cant lie, i dont know what i was thinking with this new section lmao (section in question isolated in riffethy file)
Reaper Mania tutorials
Best ones out there
Find the "This is Reaper 7" playlist
Thank you!
Yeah its a bit difficult
Mixing with a new plugin
Although Im going for a drum sound with less presence
Got my plug-ins on Reaper for the drums & keys setup now, learning the roll though aha
dude that is not a mango
🥭 mango?
Ahhhh the saus
yes i added a smoker instead
Ah yeah
I bet it’s very flavorful now
Also I lowk never understood 44.1k vs 48k
Am I weird for doing everything in 48k?
Whats the best drum plug-in?
Depends on your definition of best
Best for mixing and working with a raw sound? Superior drummer 3
Best for plug and play? GGD modern & massive
Best for free? Mt power kit
i use ssd4 it's my pookie
Best for being the most shit on in the entire server? Odeholm drums
If you want to sound like thrown/HLB/Vildhjarta, then yeah buster drums
If you’d rather meticulously develop your own sound, SD3
If you dgaf and want something versatile and still good sounding, modern and massive
There’s a bunch of options lowk
But also be ready to deal with the plague on VSTs that is Kontakt
Best for free would be any of the Steven slate free versions but MTPower can be pretty good if done right
Fair
MT power was the first to come to mind because the first album I was on was made with it
Ahh I see
Yeah lol
It ended up aight, never used it myself since I didnt produce the album but I thought it was fine
Hold on let me find a sample

Shoutout @past shell for producing this track lol
My favorite on the album lowk, maybe I should do a cover/re-record for like a 5 year anniversary lol
Looking for realism like a stage kit, it like that?
I need specific cymbal/tom sizes
Also is there a way to change the kick beaters?
I don’t think I’ve heard of a single drum VST that allows you to change the beaters
My ears are hella specific when I've got an idea in my mind aha
& I grew up with the drummer of the band I used to play in back in high-school, he used DW3000's at the time, it was 2012-2013.
The beaters he had & his sound was next level to me in the context.
Thats what I'm using currently, but also Slate.
The keys are only ReaSynth though still as of right now.
Anyone want to work on something together? Co-producer mentoring?
Don't care what genre, I'm down to jam whateva
I do everything in 48
Lol nice try
Keys? Roland cloud or xenology has all the keys you could ever want
If you're willing to buy a subscription
Or sail the 7 seas
I'm gonna end up paying for more down the line yeah
Reaper ends after 60 days, right? The free side.
Not really
It just says that
All that happens is a popup that you can close
It's like Winrar
Just click off the popup and you can use it indefinitely
But $60 is cheap and i wanted to support the devs
So i bought it
Even tho i didn't have to
Does it add anything extra?
Nope
Lawl
Pop-ups are whatever though ngl
The dudes who made winamp
This I did know
So i wanted to support
Reaper is genuinely the best daw because of how much you can customize it and how lightweight it is
That's good character & I rate that 💯
I'd do the same given the position, have before with Steam & indie developers in general over the years.
I'm a massive supporter of the grind in everything, especially if you're doing it without a huge company.
One of my goals/dreams for my solo project was to collaborate with someone(s) to get a solid track, or demo even- out, sometime in the not so far future.
But never could, so decided to get into production myself.
Shame the mix sucks
LOL
lol
Idk I started using that kit because it's the stuff Sturgis used in his peak era
Xenon told me about that
Yeah SSD is good for that
You wont find any realism kits
Everyone wants mix-ready ones
Maybe krimh drums
Sounds good 👍
I mean superior drummer has some realism
At least the option of it
Ah yeah true
That one's pretty raw and flexible
Still preprocessed tho
But lightly
Afaik it was mostly just taking out a lot of ugliness from real raw drums
But yeah
Though it is the most raw sound I’ve come across that isn’t just actual drums
heres my mix update
vk dealer signing in!
@stiff raptor this is my resume to be an official 'dealer'
😂
i gotta redo the solo still ahh (but also all the vocals)
Chango dealer friend
you are welcome lol
??
Will a Rocksmith+ cord with with Reaper?
Don't have a cord to direct through my Katana.
that is a good question i dont even know what that meant now that im looking back at it
No idea but with Reaper the answer is probably
I'm the only one that actually deals stuff (actual chango resources)
LOL
No clue what that means but neat
i deal shitty plugins technicaly
there you go now its lore accurite
I see
Yeah fair enough aha
Chango studios samples cause the chango studio store is no longer online
No, i wasn't even into production at that time
I just have a really deep interest in the chango studios style of production, so I've spent the better part of 4 years uncovering old plugins, samples, packs, and even talking with the chango founder himself lol
Oh interesting
I've recreated his mixes out of pure interest in trying to get that sound, and i did it so many times he eventually asked me to work on a project with him
That’s sick lmfao
LOL ikr
What records did he do?
One sec
And can I assume the change sound is also the xenon sound or are you more stylized now
With Ears To See And Eyes to Hear - SWS
The Hollow - MMF
Challenger - MMF
They Said a Storm Was Coming - Jamie's Elsewhere
Teenage Scream - That's Outrageous!
Genesi[s] and Number[s] - Woe is Me
And hundreds more
I've taken that sound and improved upon it, modernized it, and made it my own
Sleeping with sirens
Their first album
You def know that one
Let me send you the full list
He also produced all the Punk Goes Pop records
I might be executed for saying this but I don’t listen to sleeping with sirens
I need to be careful saying that out loud because my sisters will crucify me for that
Oh I know those
You've definitely heard at least clips from that album, it's iconic in the scene
Gotcha
He also produced the Brownings first record
Probably, just don’t recognize the name
I don’t listen to em lol
And fit for a Kings first record
Basically most big metalcore bands he did their first record LOL
Ooooooh
loll
Me neither, I'm just naming notable works
So Metalcore sturgis
I don't listen to FFAK
I love FFAK
FFAK?
That clears it up for me lol
Post hardcore/electronicore mostly, with some metalcore
Fit for a king
oh
Sturgis mostly did metalcore and deathcore with a touch of electronicore
(Attack attack)
lol
I see
Anyway I'm not autistic but as you can tell this is a hyperfixation of mine lol
That’s what we all say
LOL
Now your homework is to listen to that first list i sent, not knowing a single one of those is actually wild
LOL
Missing out
I mean closest I’d get is copying everything I could find from buster on YouTube lol
But I’d always been more of a “find my own sound with these records as influences” kinda guy
See that's what i did, but later down the line i realized all my inspiration records were produced by the same guy
Atm my biggest influences for sound are Execute.exe by DeadVectors and Evergreen by ATB (which is how I came across my most recent guitar tone)
Ah yeah that’ll do it lol
I can't stand the buster sound honestly
I don’t think it’s all that
Buster is talented af don’t get me wrong but it was never a sound I wanted to emulate, I get ya
Yeah for sure
u should change that name back! 😢
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO @stiff raptor
okay if you want to be xenon you have to go back to the old pfp
What?
gumball
Drug dealer friend
a combination of ggd, superior drummer and ssd4 would be better to get the thrown drum sound, odeholm drums (mixed) is preferable for making quick demos and ideas
idk odeholm drums overall is just... meh
man there is something about the high mids that really makes the guitar tone pop in kublai khan's tracks, especially in the nomad record
super overused, a more creative way to use odeholm drums like run it through chroma by xynth audio for getting pitched aggresive drum hits, for completely bonkers ideas
true, I do enjoy the tones on that album
I used it in the first half of 2025 because it was fresh and I didn't know how to mix stuff
If xenon wants to play it that way
Really need to overcome my insecurities about vocals and finally start recording em
are these ai?
The amount of power you have to influence nicknames is amazing
Nevermind lol
It feels weird bro
I think it's sounding better @stiff raptor
I like this mix
Snare is extremely loud, the guitars have like no mids
Cursed
It sounds about the same, you really need to turn down the overheads and snare
and the kick has to be fixed
cause right now it sounds like a tupperware
do you have any eq or compression on the kick at all?
are you making tabs before recording stuff?
💀
Universal Audio has launched UAD Explore FREE, a bundle of eight UAD plugins and the LUNA DAW available at no cost and with no UA hardware required. If you’ve been following UA’s promotional giveaways in our news section over the past few years, most of these plugins will look familiar. The 1176 was free for

!!!
Universal Audio released 8 of their best plugins for free as part of a permanently free bundle.
I have em all 🙃 granted I only paid for half of em
Was just mostly showing my rigge ass setup consisting of:
•Asus Craptop 2011
•Rocksmith+ Cable
•Razer headset (audio/mic)
They've all been part of various bundles and freebies but I actually bought the la2a and the polymax synth
Fun fact: The Showtime 64 amp sound beautiful
la2a is amazing
And the UA versions are arguably the best plugin versions on the market
Improvised a temporary studio
Blursed
I use a Katana as an interface as well, surprised I'm not alone on that.
It's pretty good but it's very unusual with how the drivers work
dang how are you surviving on that
i used a 2013 acer aspire e1-570g for some time when my pc was absent
it was terrible with i3-3217u 😭
1176 FREE HOLY SHIT
I love Analog Obsession plug-ins, but we got the real deal now
Yyeeeaaa buddy. Having used these plugins for a bit already, I can tell you they're borderline essential to have in your mix kit. The 1176 is such an amazing compressor for virtually everything, including as a super fast smashed parallel compressor you can dial in to taste. The LA2A is unbelievably silky smooth on vocals and bass. And there's the tried and true trick of feeding the 1176 to the LA2A which is a sound that's a staple for a reason; it simply works.
Are both of those in the bundle? I edited the message cuz I realized it was the 1176 and not LA2A lol
Yes they're both in the bundle
The silver one is the la2a and the black one above it is the 1176 (in the photo)
I get the two confused a decent bit tbh
i need to fix the gate on my amp & tighten it a bit

@stiff raptor btw if you did download that pack, check out the Polymax synth. Its like the 80s in a plugin. Has an incredible sound out the box and I'm willing to bet you can get some great shit outta it for your own stuff.

I think Perfect Drums is my favorite drum plugin
Im really close to Utsu's drum sound but mine is closer to his older Unique and Reniassance drums. I like mine more anyway
shame what they did to it
What?
bro busters drums go crazy
perfect drums turned into dw soundworks, that's the unfortunate thing that happened to it, but there is a preset with the legacy perfect drums samples on it so it's not much of an issue anymore
not a fan of the dry or processed presets of DW soundworks
i feel bad for what is about to rain down on you
Ah
Hahahaha
what's the price
219 usd 💀
dang
Nolly drums aren't for me anymore
All his cymbals sound the same
And i don't like his kicks
Guh
What
Him mixing CYB repented is insane
bmth succumbed to odeholmslop plague
yep
Drums sound like absolute shit honestly
No confirmation on that but I feel like if you get the chance to mix a released BMTH project (re-record or not), you know you kinda have to nail it
imagine if zakk cervini mixed cyb 💀
LOL
Would sound so artificial it's insane
I don't mind when he mixes stuff as long as he does it right (that new MiW song 🔥 )
No disrespect but at a certain point you can google these things
And for me, it's usually the guitar
guitar, kick, snare, and vocal take up the loudest parts of a full mix
Ok i will google them next time ig
The peaks of the snare and kick. But it depends on how you perceive loudness
Yea that too
If your guitars are peaking louder than your snare something ain’t right
But on the contrary, a guitar often FEELS louder than a snare
Feels but isnt?
Because it takes up essentially the full range of human hearing (well kinda), is a very sustained instrument and usually has a lot in the 1-5khz range. Which humans are very sensitive to
But snares are louder. Almost always
Unless your mix sucks
In which case maybe the guitar peaks louder than the snare
Yeah if you're going by actual peaks, kick and snare should be louder
But loudest by perception/feeling, the guitar pretty much always takes the forefront
i've got both
this is the eq curve
And this is the compression settings
just updated the eq
Thing is it sounds better by itself now, but you can't hear it in the mix anymore
Finally got it good I think
why are you cutting the highs on the kick? it sounds like that's what's making it completely muffled
if you send me those drums as unprocessed stems, i'll do a little mix mockup on them to give you an idea of how i process drums and how they should sound
Like the drum midi or do you want the audio?
Actually nevermind just re-read it
lol
Lol
ok downloading these now
@trim harbor im going to mix these and then screen record my process
then ill send that here so you can see exactly what im doing
Alright
@trim harbor
this is a very rudimentary processing
imo these drums are just not my favorite
but this is just a very basic rundown of how i'd process drums
Lots of stuff here I wouldn't typically think of, I'll try a few techniques there
like what?
Most of what im doing is routing the kick and snare to the overhead and room channel to sidechain it
And then compression, dynamic EQ, and transient shaping
that's all
yeah that
I had seriously never thought of that before
That is pretty necessary to a good drum sound 😭
I never mix drums without doing that lol
you can get the same effect by compressing the whole drum bus, but i find that i have more flexibility doing it this way
It's sounding way better now, changed the kick eq some, sidechain comp'd the oh's and room
its ducking a little much but this is LEAGUES better than before
i would sidechain the OHs a little less
Kick room is also too boomy, and the kick needs to be tighter
Yeah I could hear that a little too
Mixing indie rock for once
Pretty goodish mix of this
@zinc coral obligatory ping cause it's indie
vocals are not attently edited but i think it sounds pretty aight
He reposted the album on his story so
is that the snare you sent me or something else?
hahaha ill listen in a sec
idk it might just be me but guitars are lacking a bit of high end and are a bit to loud for the style
it sounds really weird to listen to my style of song with a xenon mix
lol
I did another from the same band
I like this one a lot better
sounds like paramore
Also, they didn't include a di
So i had to EQ the printed guitar tone
the original tone was pretty sloppy
Ouch
im surprised by how many bands don't include di tracks
or have a horrible di
@zinc coral
heres the other one
It sounds just like paramore
i like this one alot more
"We have Paramore at home"
The Paramore we have at home:
From the teaser I saw on YouTube it sounds EXACTLY how I thought it would lol
Where?
That's sick
It's like CYB but with production from Will Putney
It also kinda sounds like phoenix studios’ mix lol

Haven't heard either

Yeah I really don't hear the death influence in THROWN
Sounds kinda a modern metalcore version of the old 90s nu metal

wtf
i never noticed that
i was obsessed with that song
i see
i used to think this mix was insane
decided to mix those stems as well
eh idk i don't like my version
where do you get the stems?
also @stiff raptor elp
im bad at my job again
i only processed DIs before that so i don't really know how to work with amped sound
3rd on the train @stiff raptor @grand jasper
i love busters mixes
hate his drum plugin
the allt mixes are a good blend between hyper processed and just everything being midi
Yeah based on what people have said about it I just won't use that
I've heard some examples of it and it's pretty bad
I guess if you're going for that Dayseeker sound it would work
it kinda sounds grainy
Idk about that vocal filter LOL
so what do you think about mine
Lots of ducking i think
haven't used fop in a while
@stiff raptor
Filename is hilarious
Just picked up a set of Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros. They released a new version of them so the originals went down in price to around $180. First impressions, huge upgrade over my Audiotechnicas, gorgeous clear sound. Great balance in bass, mids, and highs. Comfy as hell. Just giving a heads up on the price drop in here.
dang and i'm still hanging on my mom's hyperx headset
snare is too snappy, and kinda buried
cymbals arent super defined
Vocals kinda sound nasally and the drums keep ducking (especially the snare)
i think too much compression
Nice and foppy
If you have any processing on the kick and snare, you don't need it
fop kit is already ultraprocessed
Nope
if you have vengeance kit, use that because its the same as fop but it has velocity
I keep hearing abt that kit, what is that kit?
Vst?
Or what is it?
It's not on the internet anymore
Do you have it?
I think the free Restrains Kit sounds pretty similar
Could u send it if u have a copy of it?
its the only thing us indie guys are good at
what about this
Ah. Idk maybe Im misremembering.
Do you have a copy?
Lots of people have it
me 2
guys do you know where to get fop kit nkis cuz i'm using samples instead
lol
I want that kit i wonder whats it abt
lol
My whole experience in this server has all felt like the butt end of one long passive aggressive bit.
What
Nothing nothing
Yeah none of this conversation has been passive aggressive at least as far as i know
😭🙏
Where can i get it
I'm not sure, you might be able to find it on reddit
I have a copy but I'm not going to share it here
It's no longer for sale
I said that before
But someone may have a copy from years ago

Got a newer laptop, tidied up the setup.
Got the rig for BOSS Tone Studio, installed it.
With the lights down, & that's another day done for me.
yes it is Dragonite
Dragonite def effects tone
Cleaned it up a bit (gave my best lad D.Nite some swag)
Pfftaha who you think does my tone critique?
My dude
I have that exact CD, love that album
kse based
Disarm the Descent wasn't perfect, but it still had it's bangers.
I have a throwback video of me doing the solo tapping part like 10 years ago aha.
can someone tell me if my mixing skills are getting any better
sounds well balanced though its pretty dark
kick has a bit too much boominess and overheads need to be much brighter
I can work on that a bit. Eq ing my mixes is pretty difficult with $15 headphones from walmart
What do you mean the kick has too much boominess? I tried to match the snare as much as possible
Why are you trying to match the kick to the snare?
It's a whole different instrument!
Not entirely but in terms of eq curve they should be similR
The final showcase... I think I'm satisfied- for now
Off to work, see results in a few hours.
Who told you this lol
Its just not true
Nobody?
I just figured out that I could make a kick and a snare sound better together by eqing them in a certain way
Im self taught so Im just fucking around and making stuff that I think sounds nice
hmm i used to do this with kick and snares but i realized a nice kick is simply bassier and a nice snare is simply more elegant and outright and maybe even a tiny bit fizzy on the high end
That's way too much high pass for a kick if we're mirroring snare
yeah that might cause some problems down the line
Kick and snare are vastly different instruments that serve different purposes
EQ them differently according to their needs
Pro-q snare preset #3 is my personal favorite.
EQ preset? 💔
Yeah.
Personally i'd recommend learning how to use the EQ rather than presets
Presets are fine, but you should learn the tool regardless
Thank you for your input.
Wrong channel 💀
Yeah I mean the kick has more low end and the snare has more high end, I dont eq them to match exactly. Its complicated and I dont really want to explain everything I do cuz Im gonna get flamed for using too many plugins
Also that kick specifically has a lot of midrange but its the only one from Perfect Drums that I like
Its the Tama kick I believe
the amount of plugins you use doesnt really matter if it still sounds good in the end
experimentation is good
Know the rules so that you can know when to break them
Yeah im trying
But criticism (as long as not rude) is helpful
Thx
constructive criticism all the way
something else i noticed about the recent mix you sent, the bass seems to randomly have notes that are louder than others
The slap part?
Thats on purpose
Ah yeah, I like it

honestly the only ndsp plugin I care about now is Mantra
Pretty decent drum mix using entirely free plugins
including the drum library
SSD5.5 Free
Needs more cowbell
(actually sounds great tho. Love the room on the snare)
magic7 my goat
Richii Wainwright technique
For context he was the first music production youtuber I ever watched, and I used only his techniques
And some are good but most aren't
Still watch him though, his content is good
How much ott before it actually sounds bad
Depends on what we're handling
Nail the Mix stems right?
You mind sending them?
yeah sure, i have a couple others as well
Awesome
Didn't you say you had the BMTH one?
I remember you saying that at one point
ive got:
Prayer position: Periphery
Overconfidence: Tallah
Guilt: Thrown
Billmuri
and the holding absense one
holding absense has really shit stems
but thats the preset reaper file
i dont think it has my mix on it but if it does just take off the effects and balence it bak to zero
thats the periphery one
if you dont use reaper too bad i cant be bothered re downloading the stems lol
hey reaper project files don't contain audio...
Dw I use it
for those trying to download these, it won't work
reaper project files only contain position/fx/levels data
LOL
You can just use the bounce live disk feature and remove all effects
holdon ill just re download them lol
or zip the project folder?
True
its 2GB 😭
Get the Bilmuri one in specific, I really like their music
yeah sure
Damn bro how much stuff is there
they are all wav and about 3-4 mins, reaper file, +cubase + studio 1 + logic + my ableton converted files
Why would there be that many different versions for different DAWs?
At least there's no FL Studio versions 😭
or ableton for some reason
honestly im starting to not like ableton
for mixing
its just not a daw that is focused on it
It's meant for EDM mainly
Or at least that's what I've heard
not really, its kinda just a very writing focused daw
i cant figure out these files sorry haha
Wdym you can't figure them out
Damn
lol
Use like Dropbox or something idk
Wild
The problem is just sending the files though right?
yeah
OK I think I know what to do
I show you how to upload files on dropbox and how to share a file on dropbox in this video. For more videos like how to upload files on dropbox and share link then please leave a like.

@zinc coral
What about idk drums?
They're called IDK Drums?
i refuse to use drop box
No
Google drive then
It was just the first thing I thought of was drums
lol gimmie a bit im just busy atm
Ohh
:/
Wouldn't personally use OTT on drums
i use ott on drums a bunch, sounds good when DONE CORRECTLY
works well as a smashed parallel compression to blend in
just don't overdo it
it has that very overprocessed sound
I use it on my drums
ott on a parralel bus is amazing
And a distortion plugin similar to Saturn but you can choose different clipping fo different freq bands
That would make sense for parallel, I use Pro-C for that if I am doing that
Thats sorta where my whole drum sound comes from
i wish there was a free alternative to saturn 2
been trying to move my workflow to only free plugins yet saturn continues to stand in the way
There is
I forget what it's called
Lemme look it up
voxengo has something kinda similar but ive never tried it
This is the only one I know of
this may be one of the ugliest vsts ive seen 😭
looks like those childrens toys they have in doctor's offices
It sounds good from what I've heard, but yeah, doesn't look amazing
Completely free?
Yep
There’s also an option somewhere in there to create a zip file of the project and all of its media
I’ve used it before when setting up the DAW on my band’s rack IEM system
1993: Waves released the L1 Ultramaximizer
I just found out that my limiter is 33 years old
Proud L2 user reporting in
all the waves limiters are amazing
Great mastering limiter.
makes lines flat
I use the off-brand (otherwise known as similar free plugin), LoudMax
just use rea limit
all the reaper stock are amazing
My man
Damn WHAT
YOU STAY AWAY FROM HER ITS NOT HER TIIIIIIIMEEEEEEEE
Someone at school said they listen to Pierce the Veil today BTW (with our school most people either like Stray Kids or country)
Hi, just wondering if people have any mixing tips for this? I don’t know why but it just doesn’t sound how I want it to
For one I know I need to lessen the kick drum click, I think it’s a bit too present
But then idk somethings irking me about it, just doesn’t match up to similar styles, like knocked loose or insert deathcore here
@glacial portal i think i figured out that one tone
took a few hours of messing around with IRs and EQ settings but
i think this is REALLY close
Post it and I'll listen to it when I get home.
yuh
Don't got my headphones atm.
snare sounds kinda unprocessed
snare needs more compression
multiband compression as well
Original sounds like it has less high end
But these can never be 1 to 1
the first one is the original one
Yeah I,know
I made this in serum
I figured out I can use Thermal distortion to stereo widen the low end and bring out the high end of my bass
Almost sounds like Seinfeld at the end. I like it.
Its the Seinfeld riff.
What
theirs sounds like they have a lot less low
also more mid scooped and high end
For the analyzer only lol
I also use the built in eq in my DAW almost always
Yee
Ohhh okay

Is it just Superior Drummer? So far from what I can tell it just does all the stuff Superior does.
I havent listened to it yet tho
Sorta kinda not really.
The whole idea behind ML Drums is that it's relatively affordable alternative to Superior/EZ Drummer, where u can mix inside the plugin n stuff too. What makes it different, is that it's expansions are not genre based, they more based around the actual gear itself. So like Yamaha, Pearl, Ludwig etc. You can change the tuning of the drums too which I don't see other software doing. Like Superior/Ez, it runs off its own engine. So you don't need Kontakt or anything.
You can change tuning in Superior and mix in Superior as well.
I didn't know u could change tuning in Superior.
You can also mix from the ground up
I knew that part.
Yeah, you can change tuning, and theres a button to set it to sound realistic. So you can either have a pitched up or down piece or make it sound actually tuned
So it just seems like its free superior
I mean Im not trashing it, its awesome
The base kit is free yeah.
All expansions are paid but they're cheaper than Toontrack ones.
based Chao as per usual
no it just seems like somthing youd not use
because its 'spensive
lol
So u bought an expensive thing and arent even using it all the way
That is extremely close.
Thank u sir!
How
Honestly at that point it's all production work from there.
Whats this?
An expansion pack to ML Drums.
@glacial portal ive been meaning to get my hands on some old cabs to mic up, i really want to learn how to mic a real cab
it sounds really fun
but MAN are they expensive 😭
im half hoping for some jaded old guy who did shows in the 80s to be like "Welp ive been lookin to get these off my hands, you can take em for free, they just take up space 👴"
I'd recommend starting out with some less expensive cabs and speakers, as well as some less expensive mics.
Ahhh aight.
Just big ol cabs
A good place to start with cheap cabs is Seismic Audio or Harley Benton.
harley benton is so good man
i have 2 of their guitars
1 of them plays better than my les paul lol
They make cabs too.
I haven't tried them but from what my friends in Agufish's server have told me, they're pretty good for the money.
My personal experience has been with Seismic Audio in terms of cabs. In fact I have a 2x12 closed back cab.
any big audio difference in closed vs open back?
i wanna learn all the ins and outs
Just saw a band that was touring with a 1996 Line 6 412
Shit was insane
Closed back are more directional and have a tighter bass response. Open backs are more open and fill the room more.
Yeah. With analog gear there is no free lunch, there's pros and cons to everything.
I was helping my old professor do a project with the final project for some underclassmen one day and the combo was an open back 1x12. He mic'd the back on the combo. He explained that because of the size, he wanted to fill out the sonic spectrum just a wee bit more. Whether he used it or not was up to the student who was mixing.
@stiff raptor
Them old guys got some cool tricks.
Oooooo that is really cool
What really fascinates me about cabs is the mic placement
because i find myself ALWAYS choosing IRs that are "grill edge"
so i looked up where that placement is to see it visually
its so interesting how and where it changes the sound
i actually wanted to get an r-458 from them but it's not easy to get their guitars here in russia
i'm still rocking my aria ii pro stg-004 stratocaster that i got for my birthday in 2023
Yeah. Even one centimeter and you'll get an almost completely different sound. What they used to do is tape the area where the sweet spot was. Infact when it comes to micing cabs, the difference speakers have different frequencies.
Wow
Yeah when it comes to 4x12s, the different speakers can sound completely different from each other.
That's crazy
How do you even manage to keep recording sessions for an album consistent
Just tape?
LOL
Insanity
The thing with speakers is that they're like amps. They have their own tolerances and stuff, so even if they're off the same line, let's say 2 V30s can sound different from each other.
So what about amp volume, would it be better to mic them at a lower or medium volume?
i kinda feel burnt out already even though i only started making an album
Depends on the type of mic it is. Some mics can handle the pressure, some can't because they are sensitive and can break easily. U would wanna look at their max SPL.
Classic 57?
U can beat the shit out of it.
Dynamics are designed to be pushed.
My music technology teacher has had the same one for 20 years
And his dad ran it over
I imagine thin air isn’t going to hurt it :)
Dynamics are nothing but a coil attached to a diaphragm (well most are) and as they go BOING when sound is introduced, they move in the magnetic field and records said sound.
Yup
So TLDR, go wild when it comes to a 57. Be more careful when it comes to Condenser and Ribbon mics tho
Gotcha gotcha
You can use any mic on anything, but some are better for certain things than others.
Try a BETA 52A
ive seen some using sm7b on kicks
Goated mic. Industrial workhorse. It's like the AK47 of mics. Cheap, reliable, does its job well, and you can beat the ever living shit out of it.
i love me a classic 57
we've got a few we use for my band
i also have the audix d7 (i believe) mic kit
Fantastic for micing cabs and for snares
Watching someone rip a kit with this set rn. Sounds fantastic. Just as a question, do you use the i5 on your snare and have you tried the sm57 on it?
I haven't yet had the chance to use the set yet cause we finished recording the album before i bought the mic set
Last time we mic'd our snare was with the 57 though!
Soon enough i plan on making my own custom midi drumkit by using the DP7 kit to record a bunch of oneshots and velocity samples
Lemme know how you like the i5 in comparison to a 57 as a snare mic next time youre playing with it. Though I mainline vocals and have been doing so for the better part of the last decade, I started life as a wee little drummer boy. No space for a kit in my last few living situations but eventually, like kinda soon maybe this year or next, im tryna buy a house and I will DEFINITELY be putting a kit in there and dusting off the ol sticks.
For sure! Since i'm gonna be recording all the drums as oneshots separately, i can use ALL of the mics on a single drum including a 57
and then i can pick and choose which i like most
Blend em together, make an i57 😂
I'm such a bitch for cool mics
Sounds like an apple product
How do you like the AKG?
SAME
Amazing, super reliable
i have 2 of them
They sound GREAT as vocal mics
Interesting. I was wondering what yall used for vox. I've been considering grabbing an SM7B simply because untreated room and im a loud boomy mother fucker. I like my 57 on vox but kind of want to see what that sm7b life is like.
Yeah we've used the P120s for vox since the beginning
I never really saw the need to get an SM7B because i was so happy with how the P120 sounds
P120 also has a -20db pad and highpass switch
bought an at2035 like 5 years ago as my first (and still only) condenser mic and I gotta say, I dont love it.
Oh that's the audio technica replica of it right
Had no idea it was a replica lmao
but yeah its very comparable in terms of price range
Well not exactly a replica but i know the at2020 is like a carbon copy of the p120
I know the Audio Technica stuff is more catered to gamers and podcasters, and the AKG stuff is catered to musicians
Yeah I dont love the 2035. Its very warm. Like, too warm for me and what I like.
