are they two different takes? I hope you've not duplicated the same take and flipped the phase
nope the guitars are always same takes in every chorus, but every time i flip phase choruses like this i get this effect
there's your problem
no, i want the guitars to cancel phase
im just trying to figure out why the guitars are moving around like that they sound spliced or something
if they cancel phase you wouldn't be able to hear them π
the phase cancelling makes it sound wrong
yeah im tryna mess with songs
theyre not mine im just asking why this may be happening
did u extract guitars from another song by stem splitting?
no its literally just the song but with the first and second chorus phase inverted over itself
so the guitars should phase cancel if they arent like spliced and moved around on purpose for whatever reason
what are u trying to achieve by doing this?
inverting instrumental with original song and stuff like that
are you trying to recreate a song? use the original as reference?
noo theres 2 versions of the song for example that the artist released one is instrumental one is original and im just tryng to get the vocals cleaner
actually in this example its synthless and with synth
doesnt have to be 2 different choruses it can just be the same chorus but the instrumental/synthless whatever, the guitars do this too
heres like an example when it actually inverts everything but the synths, but the bass is humanized so it has more samples so idc about that
on this song it does not but theres like no reason to splice guitars manually like this on a later release if you already have a good take.. like it has to be some effect on the guitars i just wanted to know if anyone would know what it could be
for reference this is how it sounds its just long powerchords theres no reason to splice manually π
my guitars sound huge cuz i used a octaver and dist, and then amp and a fitting cab so they sound huge
may have too much mid ring out
in snare
could give cymbals alil more loudness too
im not xenon but i js wanted give sum criticism lol
might have to try this. gojira octaver prolly the best for it right?
once i tried tubescreamer to the DI before ampsim, but still couldnt quite get the sound i was lookin for. i dont know why. it tightened the sound a bit yeah, but the "umph" modern guitar production has was still missing.
its very good, yes
I don't know exactly. Maybe it's something with how Caleb Shomo's style and Jordan Fish's style meshes. Also, what was up with the snapping in the first verse? For some reason, it just doesn't feel like it fits the rhythm of the song.
shh youre gonna wake up longestsoloever
the umph is in the low mids
sounds fat. you literally just boost the low-mid sect from ampsim or eq the whole bunch?
can do both, better to do it within the ampsim
sometimes I use external eqs to boost just the midside information
then I automate the bands to balance the fatness and the bite of the guitar, the main tone really depends on the IR tho
IRs will make or break a guitar tone
no amount of processing can fix a tone with a bad IR
good IRs and a solid bass tone will affect your overall guitar tone
cool. i've been relying on Will Putneys IR's from the STL Tones pack. using them with Nolly and Gojira
Or fl studio
Ive got a big announcement for those chango-lovers
the FOP formula has been cracked
This is NOT the fop kit
this is all 100% Slate 3.5 for the kick and snare
minus one extra snare layer called the bubinga snare
@ruby jay @grand jasper
@grave marlin
This is the culmination of about 4 days of work between me and two buddies of mine
We scoured old forums, sent messages to those who knew how to make the fop processing, i even literally hit up Kellen McGregor from MMF
He was extremely helpful
Now we need the challenger kit
Sadly impossible cause the challenger kit is Jake Garland's actual snare
Ouch
Btw did you have problems with poise crashing
Poise was working terribly on my setup
The trick is
Snare 10a
Snare 11a
Snare 12a
Snare 8
Then pick two extra snares to use as auxiliary room mics (close mics turned off)
Close mic sent through multiband compressor (multidynamics)
Room mics EQd and smashed, also gated
Both room channels sidechained to close mic
send both through more compression to glue together in a bus
slight multiband compression
Auxiliary room track sent separately to the whole snare bus with less processing
Bubinga hits layered in unprocessed
nope, poise is smooth af for me
Gold
Change your name to The Chango Dealer at once. π
LOL
That's fucking insane. Like damn near 1:1
Cam literally said the other day he has work for me in recreating old albums
I think he wants me to recreate the stems so he can re-release old chango stuff
If you told me that was THE FOP snare I'd have believed you
Ouuuuu
Brother making connections
That's insane
Also big ups on the kick. Again, 1:1 quality
thank you!
Bro actually changed his name πππ
LOL
Love this chat
Changocore needs to be a bigger thing
For sure
Tactical nuke
Don't make me chose
LOL
LOL
I just throw pro-l 2 on master and nothing else xd
I've been meaning to post about this for a bit, but I have have to get this out there. The production on Trivium's last EP blew me the fuck away. https://youtu.be/IIgswpHNZik?si=OniKjWyEINtiGaDC
The drums are insane. Genuinely insane. The tone, the fullness, the presence. Those toms fill me with joy. The guitars are fucking mean but clear but also angry. Vocals sound great. Josh Wilbur fucking killed it.
The Official Video for Trivium's single "Struck Dead" from the new EP βSTRUCK DEADβ out now.
Stream STRUCK DEAD: https://trivium.lnk.to/StruckDead
Trivium is:
Matthew K. Heafy: Vocals and Guitar
Paolo Gregoletto: Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals
Corey Beaulieu: Guitar & Backing Vocals
Producer / Director / Editor - Jazel (Black Card Films)...
Yeah this is really good
Find a way to listen to it.
drums are super tight
I love good drums and these sound nuts
thank jens bogren π«‘
my only complaint is i want more rooms but that's a personal thing LOL
also kick could cut through the bass guitar a little more
the overheads sound super clear
i think the best part is the guitar
and the toms
Yes. The toms genuinely make me giddy
The guitar tone sounds like, in the best way, a spiritual successor to early metallica stuff
an improved version of that tone
Wow. Good call. That's a good way to describe it. It's super chunky and heavy but also super clear.
Like they put the amp in my ear.
i wonder if it's digital amps or mic'd amps
Good question. I have no idea but it wouldn't surprise me either way.
mic'd I hope
They sound like micd amps
sounds like a 57 right up to the cone
$100 and can do virtually anything lmao
I see waves plugins π
LOL
not doing the free plugins only thing, are you?
Eventually, i will
an essential thing to the sound of fop is maxxbass and there is quite literally zero free alternatives
it has a patented algorithm
how does it sound different compared to rbass?
rbass has a different sound to it
something about saturating specifically the upper harmonics to create an auditory illusion is what maxxbass does best
Rbass is basically maxxbass lite. They work on the same principles, generating harmonics above the root note to create the illusion of deeper and richer bass. It's just that maxxbass gives you more control and I think their algorithms are slightly different. Rbass is way more simplified in terms of use but you can't control the exact tone as much.
I have rbass myself because I'm a simpleton π
Yeah absolutely
if there was a free version with a similar algorithm that would be very helpful
Also TransX and Waves Arts Multidynamics are the other paid plugins i'm using
for the snare at least
I think i can use TDR nova to achieve similar results but i'll need to do another deep dive and A/B it
Honestly that shits so fun tho. Don't realize you can lose hours just a/bing shit and tweaking the littlest things.
REAL
Hahaha
Then you go to sleep, wake up, and it all sounds wrong anyway π Nawh but genuinely knob twiddling and frequency and tone hunting is some of my favorite parts of mixing.
Agreed
@stiff raptor I was just doing some research out of boredom. Seeing references that the JS Big Booty Bass Enhanced stock plugin in Reaper does the same thing as rbass. Different algorithm for sure, but same principal. Have you played with it? Could be worth looking into, see if you can match Maxxbass with it
ooohhhh
you may be right
That's worth a shot
@past shell pinging you to check your dms cause you asked me to
Yeah man. If you play around with it lemme know how that pans out for you.
I hit ross up the other day and im gonna try to figure out which order harmonics it generates exactly
So i can determine what type of harmonics it should be generating
Ross the god
LOL
hmm can I change my name to the sturgiscore dealer
Then you and xenon can lead dual cults in the chat. π
:)
lol
i really wanna try to mix from first to last - note to self but sadly there are no stems available
im cervini imitator π
the only thing I deal is with the depression after listening to my mixes β€οΈβπ₯
LOL
good song
hell yeah
NOTE TO SELF I MISS YOU TERRIBLY
i can't stop listening to it lol
i remember that there's a remaster with sotello but honestly skrillex's voice had more teen angst in it
spencer's version is great and the mix is a lot better
yeah
but yeah sonny's vocals are more emo
being off tune gives more soul to it
haha
i really gotta learn how to do mid screams because i actually know how to do false chords but don't use them
@wary shore gives lessons
Indeed I do
two roooads split off from here
i am actually really shy about my vocals lol
but my cleans are pretty high
i can reach F5 occasionally
and when I was a kid I could reach the C6
Anyone here use AmpKnob?
Yeee my highest safe note is a G5 but in studio I'll hit G#5

New cab sim vst yall

One free cab tho sadly
Itβs been around for a couple years
Dang
damn wbtbwb's drum parts are kinda hard especially at the end xd
i used mikko 1
that was sick
i like that it shows you the fr
Facts
i feel like this mix kinda sucks ass
(july 2025 mix for comparison)
Korn bass w/ Trilian
@stiff raptor this sounds like AI
I am having an issue with exported audio where there is white noise that doesn't show up at all when Im working on the project and I dont know how to fix it. Any help?
I BUILT A PLUGINNNN
LMNRFIX- Finds harmfull and clashing frequencies and cuts them automaticly
fire
It honestly seems better than the other "fix" plugins like infinity horizon and soothe, i'll give it a go
sure, what daw do you use?
reaper
SICK, so that means it can directly export into your stock eq
(its still not fully developed so its still a html file)
I'd personally rather wait till it's a VST/DLL for simplicity
that is the worst thing i've heard all week
please don't use this
Since when do you make plugins
The vox stems are a bit weird here but at least they're easier to mix than the vesta collide
@stiff raptor
i actually had this version before but you can barely hear the drums here xd
and the vocals are too loud
whats this
yeah vocals are too loud but this sounds good
i like this more because the drums are much more audible
yeah that one's better
yeah no this does not sound good
it removed all the transients from the original signal
just had to lower everything but the drums
yeah 100% ai lol
i also found some stems for apologies are for the weak but they are kinda meh (vocals are cool though)
You have your vocals sit super loud LOL
too loud?
Yeah
i now use a combination of 12a, 13a and 22 (iirc) everywhere for my drums lol
wade's bg mix made doing allat much easier
i just add some eq and distortion to snare, make a parallel compression send, snare reverb send, some ott on overheads and toms, aggressive compression on room and throw AW BG-Drums on the entire drum bus
and voila
i just like how my snares sound now
Yeah sorry to parrot but all this is doing is completely removing transients and squashing the sound. It sounds better with it off.
i actually like how this one turned out
Dang an hour
Why?
what
Am I reading that right that a 28 second clip took an hour to render? Why? Lol
Ohhhh π
idk why i even collect them
I was about to say, my boi needs a new cpu π
chungus is my nickname for chango btw
i actually need a new cpu though
i have a toaster on i3-2120
Ou. I'm on a ryzen 5 3600 still
i would like to upgrade to 5600
i'm collecting money already
i need to start earning money from mixing and mastering stuff
Ryzen is nice. I've been an AMD stan since the r9 290 days
but i can't because i live in russia so there will be some troubles with money transfers from abroad
Aaaaa yeah that's gonna be tough
i'm afraid that i will need to use crypto which sounds really sketchy and probably a pain in the ass because i don't know anything about it
tf why?
idk, i just decided to
It sounds bad π
i think it sounds good
Can i try this out?
Bet
i cant dm for some reason
found my new drum vst

is the vocals okay
a little lost i think
hi
i would respect you but your using the fucking buster kit
nah sorry haha
could use more production just to fill it up
need to come up
i like its cymbals but
i actually have one of those
i don't think buster odeholm drums fit this mix
nice riffs though
i feel like the guitars are too buzzy here on the open strings
weird cuz i like it π
it only fits thall and modern metal stuff
i guess its modern metal?
idfk
just had to mb the lows out cuz i dont like the kick
sounds more 2000 esque to me
u can use the kick and snare for electronic stuff as well
well i was going for a elecvtronic sound
yet realistic kind of
did u use superior drummer for this as well?
yes
with some triggers
i use sd3 for everything tbf
and im looking to get m&m 2 soon
ssd4 >>>>>
Im not so sure abt that
Im not sure i never used it
for example
trying to quadtrack with different amps ugh
Quadtracking π
It always has phase problems and sounds warbly
Stick with regular L/R double tracking each individual part
Quad tracking all four takes of the same part doesn't make it thicker or fuller, it just emphasizes mistakes and causes frequency build up
quadtracking without a purpose goes wrong everytime
like if you want sludgy wall of sound, the two other quad tracks after the double track have to be lower octave and blended in to taste, switching amps and cabs won't help much
for a riff like this double track is more than enough
maybe you can try different amps or cabs on either left or right guitar
I found such a cheat code of a plugin today y'all
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/pretty-pretty-princess-sparkle-by-turnt-plugins
how does it work compared to fresh air, or the slate revival in vtm?
somebody should plugin doctor this
Doesnt really matter
Still just sounds warbly and muddy
@stiff raptor
overheads sound like they are being ducked too much
mmkay thanks
Lol
room goes mono when i try to route it
I think you missed the point of the plugin π€£
its still not what i expected
so
also
Hi
doesnt work for my style
still
No not really
its not the best drum vst
Because itβs for toddlers and to farm more money
snare sounds kinda heavy on the close mic but sounds good otherwise imo
i personally love that much overhead ducking
how does one even achieve this kick tone bruh
triggers
thats the point
is it just a ridiculous multiband
what is the processing on the kick is what i am asking
im not going the same sloppy kick tone everyone goes
compression
and eq
basic
ye that's kinda the point
Mm disagree, kinda going for a specific vibe
what vibe
think i got pretty close, although this version is blended with a real kit and the overheads are real
your drums sound way too loud
so it isn't exact
theirs dont
maybe because it's only drums and guitar
im just giving my pov
It is by no means a full mix
if this didnt have vocals you'd notice it has not a very loud drums
Mmm still disagree
well bro im just saying what i think its up to u to fix or not π
It isn't an issue, nor am I sending it asking for feedback
I sent it as an example of slate drums
you sent it to my message
they dont sound good π
yall trying to convince me but
I'm not trying to make modern metal, so thank you
You do what
modern metal
Cool?
I'm not trying to convince you of anything lol
Like i said, i just sent an example of slate drums
i suppose this is from 2000 or 2010
era
correct
that's the era of drums SSD 3.5 was released in
there you go now you're understanding
then ur drums can fit
nope
i have a set ready for that stuff
i didnt expand on it yet tho
this needs a lot of work, the guitar and drums sound like they're fighting against eachother
random thall concept idk lo
everything is fighting for volume in the mix and in multiple parts the drums sound very off-time
they're in time wdym
also not rlly agree on this
when did you start mixing?
mm i see
this sounds quite a bit better although the guitar tone is pretty weird
theres a hiss in the 10k range and it's lacking body
it fits mix though
idk bro
judging from u
i never saw something from u
musicwise
i cant tell if u are giving feedback that fixes my mix
or makes it worse
i'm the producer of a few pretty sick bands rn
i just did live sound for Hall of the Elders last night actually
I ran the sound for a sold out show in dfw
can u show maybe
what bands
a few revivalcore bands in my area, my band is actually getting pretty good traction and it's sick to see
cool
we just hit 21k monthly
thats peak
but anyway, i am a legit producer and mixing engineer, it's my job, so when i provide feedback i'm indeed trying to help you
whether or not you want to change your mix based on my feedback is up to you
i never saw a production from u tho
Yeah i typically don't send them because i don't look for feedback on my professional works in public forums
no offense but this doesnt sound professional at all
LOL
then what makes you qualified to say?
so thats my word
π€
dont take it far
just to me
the drums comp are a bit weird to me
i think i can talk
and say ur song is a bit more compressed than what u are going for
and guitars are warmer too
thats cuz different irs
Hey guy, do i need to clarify again that that was only a drum test? I wasnt going for that exact mix at all
I literally just threw a riff on top of a beat, for the sole purpose of doing a test ssd3.5 mix
It's not a demo or a professional thing lol
Not sure why you keep harping on it
I've produced quite a bit lol, i've been doing it almost 10 years
.
they didnt get posted anywhere?
in social medias?
u never said that but ok
.
said it twice
"Example of slate drums"
not a full mix
lol
im sticking with sd3
Awesome
with a industry standard kit
Huh lol
can i check them out or smth
also question
whats revivalcore
revival to the 2000s?
2000s or 2010s metal but with a modern twist
Nah cause you're gonna try to pick apart my mix π€―
I've posted my band here before anyway
but ok
if you really want to hear it you're welcome to search for it
u sound offended
Nah i've just had this happen before
when did that happen
Once some guy created two alts just to insult my mix because he got butthurt lol
uh
yeah thats bad
and fucked up too
kinda
i was just in doubt, nothing else
yea i gotchu
how did u learn mixing and master?
Self taught + i worked as a live sound assistant for a while
i also self taught
tbf im 5 years at mujsic but mix and master is 4
still releases music?
sorry for being stupid btw
LOL youre good
will hear the band later
Oh my god, no one ever uses that
eq?
are u sure
you kick can sound muddy and not clicky without eq
Itβs a joke, you just said it like it was a thing that people donβt use
i said it as a thing everyone uses
do u make this free or like
u price it
also how much genres do u make?
And u do solo too?
Like i produce my solo project? yea
Wowo can i see π
Btw i have heard some of the band somgs
And they are pretty good
I still need to see more tho i didnt listenbmuch its late in the night
Also there is a song i really like that sounds like 2010s metalcore and i would like to see if u know songs/albums/artists that sound like it
This one
It sounds like 2010s bmth
And i love it
Sounds like generic radio metalcore to me honestly
doesn't sound very 2010s

this one sounds kinda similar i guess
It sounds like bmth to me
To one of their albums from 2010
I'm not a huge fan of bmth so i couldnt say!
I see
Gotta admit the riff and ambience is very good tho
It's alright, i'm kinda burnt out on that sound lol
Oh its ok
it's all very similar
lol you are bmth
It doesn't create any harshness in the mix
it's bassically a fresh air and Soothe Hybrid
wait really?
I tried fresh air for all of 5 seconds and hated it
Yeah I didnβt like the grass either
@stiff raptor a lot of your stuff is quite similar to bmth
uh not sure abt this
Mmmm what
I don't ever listen to bring me
Can you give any examples?
I feel like he's referring to bmth - suicide season (2008)
Or maybe there is a hell believe me i've seen it (2010)
idk actually what he meant though
I never said he sound like bmth i think
I said this song sounds like them in the 2010s
i'm talking abt theantimusictheoryguy though
yup
sempiternal and thats the spirit imp
really?
this song sounds like bmth imo
decided to mix snare differently
it's not as cutting through the mix as my previous works
EYYYYY ARPPPPPPP
becuse my headphone eq was still on
oh
like the eq specifically for your beyerdynamics
i remember you telling that your dt770 sounded very bright
my beyerdynamics had a spike in high mids
beyerdynamics custom street
and yeah it sounded like something was drilling through my ears
i'm planning to get a fiio jd10 at least
i think it needs more room
it sounds good besides that tho
too much close mic imo
don't do this
just get used to your hardware
So you know what it sounds like
ah ok
why is basically the entire 3.5k range just missing
there's no bite or aggression to this
it's also lacking low end
becuase my headphone eq was on
idk
are you using that plugin you made π
nope
it sounds like you have soothe or something similar "taming" a ton of frequencies
So. Thinking of upgrading my interface. Been rocking the scarlet solo 3rd gen for years. Been solid, but I want something better. Haven't been the biggest fan of the overall sound I get through my focusrite. So far the UA Volts, Motu M series, and the SSL 2 series has caught my eye. Anyone got experience with these?
but how is it, compared to my previous stuff?
@past shell will hook you up!
and i am still sitting on my garbage umc22 lmfao
GeT tHe ApPoLo
appololo
shit
Yeah nawh I don't have Apollo money lmao
i'm planning to get a komplete audio 1 someday
but first i need to upgrade my pc
i already have the money for my motherboard
who does, 3 grand for an interface is not normal
These are all in the 200-300ish range and I wouldn't go much higher than 400 just for my goals lol
and i need to get the money for ram
yeah same
ableton needs 64gb
cat
glup
32gb ddr5. Did it way before modern prices so ππ
LUCK BITCH
i am actually jealous
my classmate got ddr5 32gb for 13000 RUB
cheap
he's like literal real life version of eric cartman
he has a beefy pc, an iphone and acts like spoiled mofo
i'm praying for the prices to not go up again because how i need to upgrade my toaster
i got my pc 2nd hand from a lighting hire company i worked for
my pc was owned by my mother before
free c:
for free
honest critique?
Yes ig
A critique that could help me get this better if it needs to
- Snare needs more room/verb to be present, less close mic
- Guitar sounds almost bitcrushed, wayy too much gain
- Guitar sounds like it's interfering with the bass as well, i would reduce the bass in the guitar so the bass is less cluttered
- Drums are overall too quiet, especially the toms
Oh wait can i give a mix ref im looking for?
Sure
Ah yeah
the mix there is definitely more minimalist than yours
The guitar is lower gain and the drums are a bit louder
I heard they use fuzz pedal swollen pickle
But im not sure what do they set their gain to
Low, especially if they use fuzz
Fuzz provides alot of that high end crackle, so you don't need to overcompensate by using a ton of drive/gain
Ok i'll see once i get on it
how are these drums
is this periphery pack or something
What for?
What mic, headphones
What are you prioritising
General upgrade. I also plan on grabbing a set of monitors and a better mic in the next 2-3 months, but as of right now an audiotechnica at 2035 and audiotechnica closed back headphones. I think older m20xs or something, not home right now to look at the exact model. I also want a second input on the interface
Yeah just googled an image it's those ones.
and i am still sitting with hyperx headset
Instead of getting a separate gaming headset I just use the audiotechnicas and have my sm57 sitting on a stack of books aimed at me. It works. π
For that use any of the above interfaces will be fine. For future proofing Iβd recommend the Audient ID14 mkii, but thatβs probably overkill. Has an insane headphone output, very low noise, high gain preamps. It also comes with 4 line outputs and 2 headphone inputs which is great for the price, and, ADAT in, which is huge
The SSL2 mkii has better preamps and a decent headphone output but less I/o. no adat is the main drawback
The volt is meh
Audient ID14 mkii, ssl2 mkii and topping e2x2 are the main choices on that price range
I've also seen people talking about the audient so now that's definitely on the list. Thanks for the input Ross! I was thinking about a 4 input as well, like you said for future proofing.
nope just modern and masive
oooh
ive been really enjoying it recently
I agree with this one, the snare hits are also too far apart
Are you using archetype gojira? @nimble nova
Thall amp with a custom ir
yeah that makes sense
Dang
I think the IR you're using sounds kinda weird
but it's better than before
i think the processing on everything needs to dial back a bit
i almost never post stuff here but i gotta post this
@grave marlin check dis
@ruby jay
here it is with my slate fop recreation
Sounds incredible man! You could easily make decent money mixing for bands. And, of course, we love the FOP kit. #FOPLives
FOP just always sounds massive
That is currently what i am attempting to do
:D
Also, I obtained a copy of AD1 for this which is haha funny cuz its nearly impossible to find now
fop is based indeed, but sturgis style mixing is based as well
Very based indeed
what is the denoiser and reagate doing for the guitars?
denoiser cause my pc has interference with my guitar pickups
regate is... gating?
lol
did you record with amp fx printed in the audio?
idk, I thought that's how it was done so that the project is less cpu intensive, my amp sims are really acting up lately, always crashing my projects
I'm really considering switching from neural dsp to lepou or ml sound lab stuff permanently, even for modern stuff
they are just different forms of hard clipping and EQ curves anyway

interesting stuff, this probably what happens under the hood of these amp sim plugins
You should, lepou just continues to impress me
Jacobra is the best
I confused him with scro for like months
I reccomend Borgen AmpKnob, amazing amp sim
I love weird irs
Im trying not to cuz uh im tryin g to do it kinda processed, more than the ref album
i also love weird irs, but your guitar sounds more like a synth than a guitar
in a messy way
Guhh damn it why everyone in my town listens to pop bullshitttt
No metalcore bands π
Me need moneh xd
I think payments in russia are much smaller than in other countries
So I'd rather work with peeps from US
what were the samples used here from steven slate? lol
if you dont mind me asking by any chance..
is it like the slate snare itself?
12a, 11, 8, and a few others
oh damn
but layering the snares isn't gonna get you close to the sound
the processing
multiband compressor and sidechain the rooms
then process it all together
just one drum room track works for this?
no
i didnt know you ever had ssd xD
?
Do u know what ir should i try that sounds kinda like that one cuz i rlly liked it
@stiff raptor
i just spent 2.5 hours working on the mix but also trying your chango ssd sauce lol
sorry for quiet ass intro
so that's ssd?
your whole mix is quiet and smashed
not sure how
i think my snare drum sounds weak basically
it has this weird "pah" in like the 2k range
yeah ._.
Look at your waveform
yours is the bottom
What is on your master chain??
genuinely idk how you got it to look like that
im gatekeeping that secret π€«
it's not a good thing π₯
maximizer n stuff
ssl g bus comp first from waves
yeah get rid of it lol
your ceiling should not be like -15db π
post it in #1095986343848448020
nah this is specifically production
@stiff raptor
yeah the mastering is still a bit too squashed by accident from the maximizer but i got the changoey drums now lel :D hey!
immediately better but still way too quiet
my side chain was on trackspacer btw lol
you gotta fix this big ol gap
everything is too smashed and quiet
what is your master ceiling set to
4.5 db is what i made it on ozone myself π LOL
thats all i know
and full on stereo and some upward compression
should be like 3.5 or 2.5 prolly instead
the maximizer u mean right? no, i made it into plus 4.5
Bro what π
thats how the maximizer works on it idek
found this on google lol this image
oh ok
what is that at
default
so how is your mix so quiet
0
do you have the master fader set to something?
i turned it down after my actual master chain with a studio eq HAHAHA
bro what π
π
i don't think you understand how and when plugins need to be used
i just have this one friend who always said my mixes were too loud
so i tried to make it approximately spotify volume
LOOOL
That is about -10db quieter than spotify
i dont know how you thought that was spotify volume
in the last one??
in any of them
oh yea its 3.4 db quieter than spotify
this is bad ur right
π
but anyhow my self made chango drums turned out somewhat changoey
i think you are missing a fundamental undertanding of when to use plugins and what they're for, i think for now stick to stock plugins until you are used to those and can get something sounding good out of it!
yes ser
unofficial homework: mix that song using ONLY stock plugins
besides the obvious like guitar amps and drum vst
no ozone, no external compressors
stock only
Reaper stock plugins are so peak
Actually i use the stock irs from fl
And they're actually very good
And i think i use stock for everything
Almost
Fun fact: There's a free JS plugin called RC Inflator that is a 1:1 of the paid Oxford Inflator. Useful mastering / brightening tool. It zeros out with the paid one. Reaper is peak.
Inspired by the styles of Utsu-P, Okame-P, and Yuyoyuppe!
Original song is by Utsu-P (@utsupofficial)
I have finished it
Anyone got modo drums from ik ? Cuz I recently got them as gift and I wonder if I can make them sound like ggd invasion kit (I am noob in mixing or anything that has to do with drums)
Well the only way to do that is by mixing so
Search through the ml snares, see which one you like best
Then just use some basic eq and comp

Seems audio assault is giving out their peavy inspired amp sim for free. You gotta have their installer though. Figured the guitarists in the chat may want to check it out.

A free saturation plugin that can be used anywhere you need some grit. This free Softube plugin is a modeled output distortion plug-in that adds a taste of warm, analog saturation to your mixes. If you're looking for saturation plugins to give extra body and presence to your sound, this is the one. Itβs too good to be free β b...
In case anyone doesn't have it this is one of the best free plugins I've ever used, it's amazing for drums particularly
It can be risky
Thing is, drums are fundamentally transient heavy and the primary idea behind saturation is removing transients
so yeah, it can work if things are to transient heavy, but 99% of the time drums aren't transient heavy enough, espeically unprocessed ones
If your drums are too transient heavy out the box you need to switch to something that is unprocessed
Then you add a transient shaper
If there's no transient afterwards
saturation doesn't only reduce transients
it also introduces harmonic distortion
and transient shapers sound very different
Also, why are we removing transients just to add them back?
Saturation Knov usually doesn't reduce the transients the point of being inaudible
Saturation Knob usually doesn't reduce the transients the point of being inaudible
yes it does, same as every other saturation plug
there's no difference
that's just how saturation works
now, saturation can be softer or harder, but the fundamental reason saturation does ANYTHING is by removing transients, that's how saturation works
like i say, i didn't say it's wrong or anything, it's just risky
a good 90% of mixes don't have saturation on drums for this reason
the way i found out (and i recomend playing around with this too), grab a square wave on a synth and watch what happens to the wave form as you add saturation. its a bit overkill, but it can be fub to watch
Yep
A nice tube can sound good on a snare body but i rarely hear people do it right
i only use sat on snare, kick and room, but even then im using it very carfully on a parrallel
I just don't use it
lol
most i'll do is softclip or waveshape at a very low drive
i like the fatness it adds with this
turn it up and at transients
that worked, thanks
this is the shit
damn, thanks ^^
Just some random shit i made
BROO, THIS SHIT IS EPIC
thank you sm ^^
Imo if only drums were little better mixed, it would be perfect
Bc for me, they sound little too "dark"
Give them more highs
yeahh thats a problem with my current ssd drums
i dont really know of any free alternatives that have those high end cymbals
Anyway, lmk when you drop it
OH too loud, snare getting burried, not enough room, kick is too quiet, have you double tracked your guitar?
wow
god i couldn't imagine my fl / studio one runtimes
LOL
probably a combined year of usage on FL straight
that's what, 9k hours?
yeah
no
something like that
How much is that in years π
approximately 55% of a year, if my calculations are correct
i dont use reaper enough π
hahahahaha ive had reaper for longer than xenonnn
Where can I see this
I made this in 15 minutes before going school, i did nothing
ssd5 or ssd4?
i use ssd4 and it's the goat
ssd5 (free)
hm
That's okay I have nearly 8k hours across counter strikes. We all have our addictions. π
