I've googled it... that thing looks heavy xD Nice ^^
The synrh is more of a cowbell, in here it sounds something youd herei n hardstyle
And try making the kick a lil louder
Layne Staley Isolated Vocals
can anyone break down the effects on this
i think its like 2 or 3 delays and reverb but the more complex stuff i have no clue
Shoot me in the face
Watch the cpu slowly rise as i add fx
Demo with some random hyperpop samplecpack i have
So im in the making of a song thats basically a comedic acid trip, decided to make this transition sound stupid and i love it
are the guitars supposed to be mono?
what the fuc
what the fuck
what THe fUCK?
might wnana make the durms a lil louder
or even use elctronic dums so that you can logically add sidechain
Yeah, i didn't mixed it yet
Doing the very best i can on a budged, for all i've done in the song so far its decent small budget wise
Still finding more stuff to make the guitar sound more clear
You can record them teice and pan them left and right
Anyone wanna start a temp project for fun? I got a noise complaint for screaming too loud and now i cant do them indefinitely
Its gonna be based off of boundaries and varials in drop B, and is basicslly metalcore
What I want is a vocalist (since i do instrumentals by myself), but if others what to contribute then ill be glad to set somehing up
This will be reposted into the vocal channel
anything shit in this mix?
Not a bad idea i can try that out
thats like the most basic thing
took me a while to realize too 💀
i usually double track my stuff i dont have a reason to do more
oh sick what role will u be taking
im not sure if its just me but the guitarl acks a lot of high end
I can send isolated guitars tomorrow but you can already hear a bit of it in the intro
I'm assuming ur talking about the rhythm guitar and not the lead part
But is there anything like level related like compression that's bad besides EQ and tone preference?
I wouldn't mind doing more glue but I always make it sound trash 😭
Idk how
impacts are a bit loud
i have 2 in there, the low one or the "whoosh"
What's up everyone, I'm mixing a very synth heavy deathcore-esqe song. Is it in a decent spot right now or should I start over with the mix?
this song 🥹
toning it down cause i got a noise complaint for screaming
Quick question, but does anyone know how to brighten up a dark impulse response? I always used heavily bright ones before but always found the buzz was too crazy from them, so I wanna try and do the opposite with a dark one, without making it sound like I just cranked the treble on the eq
You csn try incrrasing the prescencr on your amp if theres an option
Or eq the high mids
Or combine it with a bright ir
heres a song im working on, havent added bass yet tho
oh yeah i finally found this 💀 took me sooooooo long, its in essentials by field and foley
i use it pretty often lol
little screaming snippet from a song im working on
That bass tho
Little snippet of an intro to a song
my goofy ahh trying to recreate the architects sound
Does anyone know any good courses on metal production. As in outside of the physical instruments. So like synths, pads, extra noises etc

is this drum sound i cooked up to fuck with?
sounds like drums to me
sidechained to the point of argent
used the free amped roots, ngl ggd zilla cabs really brought it to life
swells are just valhallashimmer with volume automation 🥹 on a children choir from albion solstice
Can anyone give me any feedback on the guitars, bass, drums and samples? The vocals aren't in it yet
We use FL studio, if anyone can give any tips on better tone for drums, guitar etc
There are some things you gotta change, the guitars feels too saturated, use for example Amped Roots default settings, it keeps a nice guitar tone. Them the bass could be more aggresive, give it more presence by saturating (not much) the high mids and compress the overall bass. And the drums feels squashed, compress them with a slow attack and fast release with a VCA
Ah ok, thanks man, we've actually updated it a bit, we removed the lead guitar as it made the half bends sound out of tune/ out of time
Updated version
The shells are too drown like without punch, turn them a bit up, or use a 1176 as a parallel buss and compress the hell out of them haha
Alright thanks for the feedback man, much appreciated
Could you give us a few plugins for fl studio to use?
Check the DM
anyone got any good sugestions to making music on an app but is free
That's sorta dark vibe is amazing, I need to hear it complete lol
ty lol
What is this from anyways
Just a meme xD
Oh
Yes
tine down the snare a lil bit and bring up the cymbals
the songwriting is really good tho
It's a cover (Reimagination more or less but yeah)
fair enough then
practicing drum mixing again
still a lil bit more mixing to do
but ut something

Yo guys I've been considering purchasing the Odin 3 and I was curious if anybodies had any experience with it? Is it worth it?
personally if i had to buy it id rather just buy a guitar
i didnt buy it but i did use it its alright
Gotcha bro! I already have a guitar, but I just been curious about a virtual one cos plugging it in all the time interrupts a lot of my daily workflow
yea id say for a placeholder thing its definitely worth it
Thank you bro. Have you tried ample tones hellraiser as well?
no, only heavier7strings and odin 3
Its cool, i use it and it is good sounding shi

attempted japanese screamo to an extent
very HIHA
I have a legit question, how do I get my guitar tones to not sound like chainsaws when I’m tuned low, but still have enough gain to make pinch harmonics squeal
In a full mix context tuned to Drop-D pitch shifted an octave down. With bass in the mix as well
do you mind sending an example?
How to fuck did you know
I'm tapped in I fear
envy are my favourite band of all time lmao
Lmfso fair enough
The whiplash i got from seeing that statement
Hiha is my fav band
Next to killie
Actually the thing i was making was based off of hiha and killie
actually based tbf
Killies bassist is envys current third guitarist I think
and their second guitarist is Taki from 9mm
big big fan of Yarmulke and Asunojokei too
there's also Nervous Light of Sunday who r good, I REALLY like Swancrys newest stuff, To Overflow Evidence just toured jp w Envy too
also not adjacent but big big fan of Otus and Palm, very good pummelling End/H8000 powerviolence hardcore
Ive never sctually heard of these but you mentioned powerviolence and im hooked
Palm do get a lot of love in that scene but tbh Otus do go quite underappreciated, I only found them bc Brendan Murphy wears their shirts pretty often
Considering foreign bands, i like henoa and their untitled songs, end these days which is a korean post hardcore band, and "dressed like the ocean" ehich is indonesian skramz influenced by japanese stuff
Ill check then out then
oh sick idk any of them
for indonesian I've been enjoying Kenya (indonesian speed/whispers) and Barasuara (indie/folk/rock band)
my favourite Korean band is a tie between Hollow Jan and 49 Morphines but tbh I think HJ edge it out slightly
winning the Korean Music Awards for best rock album as a screamo band in 2007? insane
yeah 😭
Oh ywah theres good ol kallaqri
ah ye
They started doing live shows again
Theres also a band called ito project
Well its not really a band more so a single person working on the entire thing
The project atopped a while ago but the dude (hiraoka kotaro) is now part of ululou, and rn theyre recording an album after debuting in a live show
nice
I think the GGD One Kit Wonders are pretty decent for that. In terms of price very okay-ish with great bank for buck
got the One Kit Wonder Brutal for like 50-ish bucks, very happy with that. Yes, you do only get one kit, but if you pick the kit that suits the styles best, it may not always be 100% perfect for what you want, but still more than good enough in 9/10 cases for me
Onekit wonder architects has been a great all rounder
The pop punk one also can get some good results
I hated okw architects but thats a weird opinion most people think it's good
It sounds great especially blended with other kits
here's the okw architects blended with a custom kick and snare sample
for sure
the toms and kick were not it for me
this sounds fire tho
yeah its the okw snare blended with a cameron mizell snare from like 2012
same with the kick
came from the FOP Kit
sadly not available anymore
dang
@stiff raptor I'm starting the whole mix over. Can you help me out a little bit? I'm super tired of having to use stuff like Parallax to get my bass tone because I genuinely like "traditional" style bass tones more where they, instead of doing all that split band processing, they simply just stuck to using a bass amp so I want to try getting a bass tone like that for a change, but I can't seem to figure out what bass amp I should try to get a Brainworx or Amplitube plugin of and how one would go about dialling that said amp for a metal bass tone.
Hey, feel free to send me a DM let's talk it over more there
Ill send a friend rq
Imma be real, i know nothing of song production but I've got a bunch of song parts that I'd love to form into a song.
do you have a daw and audio interface?
Hey send me a message if you'd like to talk production
I dont have a daw as i dont know what a good one to use is and im running a boss katana 50 MKII which i have plugged into my laptop
I'll be honest, reaper is a good one if you don't wanna spend money. while you can record with your amp, and that's how I started too (positive grid amp), investing in an audio interface eventually (doesn't have to be right away) would be a good idea. reaper didn't take me too long to learn though, if you have any questions feel free to ping me or dm me.
I have the positive grid Spark Go. would it be a good idea to run that versus the boss katana? The katana amp i have has been discontinued and there arent anymore updates for it so it isnt very crisp
I think it would depend on what tones you can dial in, and other things like latency.
I had a tiny bit of latency when running it through my spark, but I've never tried the katana
the spark latency wasn't that bad though, it didn't stop me or make things much harder
reaper is definitely the best bet
best bang for your buck
Thats the one i use
I changw the snare by pitching it up one note in the kontakt settings
Ive never rried rhat

Hi all. I am brand new to attempting to produce metal music. I can't play any instruments, but am hoping I can put together something legible digitally. However, I am really struggling with sourcing ok sounding guitar presets... Are they called tones? Idk... I downloaded modo Bass 2 and the ignite amp, but it sounds awful. Can anyone make any recommendations for some decent free VSTs? I'm not looking to spend money, really, as I'm only kinda playing about and don't have a lot of time to put to music production. I hope this post is ok.
tried something a little different than usual on that one
whats a good free/cheap DAW?
Reaper
$60 for full version, free version has no limits
Can do anything pro tools can do and better
reaper!!!
lol yeah they just recommend you buy it
love reaper
Reaper is the winrar of DAWs
thanks gang
Look up Kenny Gioia reaper tutorials
His are the best for beginners, and he works at Reaper
@stiff raptor it says i have to purchase a liscense after 60 days?
Nah you don't
It just says thay
At the end of 60 days you just click off the message
I know people who have been using it 3k+ days lol
Just close the popup
watching it rn
how do i add an audio interface to it
yep, just skip! all good
which interface do you have?
if you have driver for it, you should go to preferences>audio>device
that's from memory so apologies if it isn't correct
then you select a device
if you have the driver, it should be there
presonus audiobox usb96 i thnk
just got it so idk
I would check the instructions and whatnot for that
they normally tell you how to download the driver
its already in the input options and i just plugged it in no driver
oh then that works I think
Quick question, you guys put an EQ on your drum bus?
yeah but it always depends on how it sounds
I'm very picky with whistly frequencies and clarity etc
I just eq till I like it
Yes
But yeah it varies per project
How so?
What I tend to do put an exciter on the drums on the drums and boost 8-10K. Loves what it does to the shells but hate what it does to cymbals.
Then process your shells and cymbals separately lol
No limit to how many busses you can have
It varies depending on what drum plugin i wanna use
I always blend many different kits and oneshots to get a unique kit sound
Lol I do I should probably explain it better.
After I process the shells and everything. I work on the overall drum bus. Comp, clipper, and some verb. But then (cuz I use EZD3) sometimes the kit as clear as the rest of the instruments, so I put that exciter on drums and it brings out some of that clarity but it also makes those cymbals harsh af. Depending where in the chain I put it, it'll either make a big difference or a subtle one.
Usually like to put it after the clipper cuz it makes a bigger difference but man I hate cymbals.
send your shells to a separate bus with only the exciter
Then send the shell bus and cymbal bus to a final drum bus with comp and clip
Ohhhh I might try that. Does this also work with that folder system in Reaper?
Yes
Oooo I gotta try that! Thanks brotha!
Trying softer stufff
Here's a breakdown that definitely doesn't sound like the ending of a certain Whitechapel song

Well second release with my band done and for me my second production for my band done. I guess "Cat Hardcore Music" fits best for it xD
This time I've tried a more modern(?) low end.
I don't usually produce metal but I decided to experiment and do an almost sorta cybergrind thing and I would like an opinion if any of you guys would like to tell me

Sounds good to me
The drum mix might need work
A little less compression to the whole drum and try to add some body to the druns
And tone down a little high end at around
Fuckin uhhh
Somewhrre abome 12k or 14k
Or are you asking someone to mix it for you?
Hey yall
Been a fucking minute since I’ve been here
But I wanna switch this part up completely
And idk what to do
If you need full context I’ll provide the whole transition
But basically this is like a bridge
That goes into the chorus
And I’m just like
So confused on what to do
Idk what category this fits in btw
I just thought this fit lmao
I guess you can try a more simplistic clean section
With left guitar playing a chord prog and right having an accompanying arpreggio orcjust melody
I think that’ll prolly work actually
I’ll try it out and I’ll post results when i actually get them done
Gosh I’ve been working on this song for like
7 months😭
Gotta get something out for my band
Fair lol
Yea but the process has been fun
When something worked and stuck
It really was the greatest feeling ever

how do we feel about this mix
improved it

i made powerviolence?
The openings really good
Solid stuff
Also
Just have to say
That mix is so tight and majestic🙏
Thanks!! 🧡 🙏
is that original
no, i mixed the multitracks
not an original track
the band is called Sunbreak and the song is called Flawed
nah i got it from cambridge multitracks
nice
are there any project that need mixing
i love mixing and have nothing to do
lol too relatable
ts crazy damn
Lol ty
current WIP, spent all of last night and today working on it nonstop
thinking of relesing this soon, mixing and song writing tips would be greatly appreciated
Sounds like theres a ton of ducking with the drums
alot is going on here
if someone told you this was recorded, it's definitely not
i know these drums anywhere, they're the standard SSD5 drums lol
and whoever is processing them isn't doing a great job
Kick is too muffled, too much reverb on the entire bus, snare and cymbals have way too much top end
Well yeah, I created the drums, it is SSD5 (all of my instruments are VSTs), and I've only started producing for 9 months (only improved the recent 2 months) so it does sound slipshod; thanks for the feedback though ^^
oh gotcha
yeah i would look up some tutorials on metal drum processing
you have a ways to go, but good sound for a beginner!
dont try to rush it
it takes experience
i always tried to rush my mixing skills
but i learned
there's no shortcut
after mixing for almost a decade now, it just does take time
i havent looked at any mixing tutorials besides how fab filter plugins work 😭
I give lessons ;)
it reminds me of demo drums before an actual release
if you wanna go for that mood, then go for it
but if you want a more refined drum sound then yeah id suggest better mixing
some of it seems to be eq issues
im spilling all da beans

is anyone using nocturnal bass here? i have a question
what does the doom button do? it keeps resetting whenever i reopen the project too, i dont hear a difference i dont think
oh i hear the difference now i think, but still its weird that its resetting each time i open my project
Pretty sure all submission audio bass plugins have the doom button
Not sure what it does tho
i feel like the attack is way faster
doesnt feel very real its more digital
or maybe whole different samples idk
but the attack is definitely quicker
Makes sense
makes it sound more digital and stuff

Mandatory reupload due to anime copyright
programming vocals never got so easy
ah hell nah that´s cursed
that, wait, what
that shaker sound is really loud
the drums sound pretty good
the kick is a little pokey at 8k range
its lacking some impact too, around 150hz
the bass sounds alright, i would sidechain compress it against the kick
the track is ducking way too much, do you know what's causing that?
it sounds like you're smashing your drums really hard into a limiter
well, everything
it is
I would definitely work on giving the kick a little more oomph
ill try the other things next time im in fl
oh fl 😭
so in relativity I think my mix is pretty good here, but as a whole its quiet as hell and when I try to use compressors and shit to make it louder it sounds like shit
any tips on what I can do here? this is a consistent issue with all of my mixes
just super quiet
@bronze scarab ill mix it for you if you send me the project file
Oh damn thanks, Ill get it rq
hey what daw did you use?
@bronze scarab i think all it needs is more width and reverb. also add a bunch more layers
ill do that for you
FL
ok hsve you sent it yet?
haha
o haha
i used an amp sim plus a drum vst so i included those as well
all free so im fine to have added them to the drive
i appreciate it!
this is fucking awesome holy shit
hey i use reaper is there any way you could just export the tracks and send me the midi?
yep sure thing
Hahah thx
np!! did u write that?
I did not, i only mixed and mastered it
ok theres a lot going on here
are you only using one guitar track?
i have a lead and rhythm but i didnt double track them
you first really wanna double track ALL rhythm guitar and hardpan left and right
do NOT use a doubler plugin
OHHHH
always double manually by recording a second track
ive been tryna figure out where to pan the doubled rhythm tracks
That's like #1 thing in metal
so thats a massive help
always 100% L and 100% R
never anyhting else
don't half-pan
don't quarter pan
always 100% L and R
ive been doing 10% left for rhythm and 10% right for lead💀
LOL
that makes sense as to why my stuff always sounds jank compared to what i listen to for reference
and dont use any doubler plugins either, always double by re-recording the part exactly how you played it the first time
yeah lmao
yeah i never fake doubletracking
when i do it anyways💀
so with 100% L and R rhythm tracks
what should i do for lead guitar?
or atleast what would u recommend
depends, lead you can really do whatever
some people leave leads single tracked with reverb and delay
Buyt
If you're doing harmonies, or octave chords, you can hardpan those left and right double tracked
first i would say
center your mix around your kick and snare
they should be the two loudest parts of your mix
i see
ill fix it
lol what
is there a specific decibel that you’d recommend my kick and snare reach respectively?
or does it depend
Your song, as a whole, should be hitting -0.0db on the master
don't ever clip your channels
aka redlining
but the loudest parts of your song (on the master channel) should be hitting anywhere from -1db to -0db
that's what's called true peak
im gonna see if i can mess with it as well
my laptop hates exporting projects with Tonocracy enabled so ill just be a minute getting the files ready haha
haha
Tonocracy?
ableton is no better
oh its my amp sim lol
oh dw about that you can just send the DI
o dam sweet
hey who wants mox wave mix stringer
LMAO
IUGLEFu
MIX WAVE MIKE STRINGER
I got it last year and its a good plugin ill give you it for free
Nah i use only free amps
i also have fortin namless
i mean i use free amps on my pro mixes
check my portfolio in my bio
everything except sunbreak is using free amps
o shi lemme check that out
if you want it there it is
yeahhhhh
great way to get instabanned lol
yeah lol
its not pirated i bought it myself
@bronze scarab im loading up your files rn
gonna do a quick mix using only free plugs
sharing it is inherently piracy though lol
yep
sick >:D
oof im sorry
bpm?
120bpm
cool
wait where did you send it
all good, just make sure to be cautious
where are the files?
the drive link I sent up there
thanks
Ur good
Listening through the samples on your website rn, all this is legit amazing
Can see you’ve definitely mastered your craft
im not a master at this im just bored
Daaaaamn
haha
I’ll just say, I’m between bands right now but once I’m back in a project I’ll definitely look your way for mixing and mastering
Dude yessir
Yeah brother🤘
I offer competitive rates entirely based on projects
So i won't charge you like a grand for one song because that's what i charge someone else for
it's entirely dependent on y'alls budget and what you want out of it
That’s great! I definitely appreciate that
Also your stems, they're not arranged at all so i'll just throw a few together in what seems to work lol
Haha yeah my project files are rough
heres that midi btw
ive never exported to midi before so if theres any issues lmk
also im exporting the DIs in a more organized way atm
Ok sick
itll just be another 5 or so minutes >:)
@stiff raptor here u go, these should be way easier to work with
ok sick
@bronze scarab why is the kick on 3 different midi lanes
LOL
@bronze scarab also your mixes may be quiet cause most of your drums are only at half velocity
that means you're getting the less impactful hits
it was too quiet so i doubled it up💀 LOL
Bro 😭
they are??
omg
that makes sense😭
this circled bit
means that you're only hitting half as hard
and this is AFTER me turning them all up
dont ever double up samples on the same kit unless you know what you're doing lol
ohhh yeah i usually do that for like cymbals and shit for variety, im very poorly experienced with drum programming haha
gotcha lol
ik theres a couple like programs i can use to “humanize” the drums, just havent looked into them yet
you dont need a program for that
most reputable daws have a humanize button
FL has that
OH??
havent used FL in a fat minute but im pretty sure its CTRL + H
its in the edit menu
O damn
Ive thought about using reaper before, i remember looking into it once and being super intimidated by the UI lmao
you only need to humanize by like 2-6%
anything higher just sounds like a bad drummer
LOL i see
there's an FL studio skin for reaper
its accurate ngl
i used to use fl for like 5 years ish
but reaper is much better
ive heard it is yeah
especially tracking real isntruments
same here with FL, about 5 years for me too
ive been producing for about 10 now
yeah FL is definitely geared more towards beatmakers than metal
lol yep
Also random thing
your DI is pretty dark, it's lacking some high end. you probably want some new strings on your guitar
but it could be a couple other things causing that issue
I definitely do, Ive got a few packs i can throw on soon cuz the gauge i have on atm is way too thick for the guitar at its age
your bass di too is super muffled
It's got no high end at all
not sure what happened there
its like 25db too quiet overall, and sounds super muffled
yeah, really not sure what the deal with my bass is
i tried to salvage it but its almost unusable
yeah its really not good
here's something more in the vein of what you should be aiming for
guitars are hardpanned left and right
drums are mostly max velocity
the guitar needs some work because there's only so much you can do with a bad di
Same with the bass
yeah, the DIs really need some work
I think i figured out my bass DIs issue, for the guitar I'll just replace the strings and work from there
just curious what amp sim did you use here?
Im using lepou free amps
LeGion is what i mostly use
good overall sound
pair it with a good IR and you're golden
Ir matters more than amp imo
Yeah the IR impacts the sound a shit ton
Thanks a million for the tips! been working really in the dark since I started 6 months ago lmao
LOL
bro 😭
it was ROUGH
WHAT 😭
if yall got any advice
i need it lol
i absolutely suck at mixing raw drums
the whole mix is kinda ass 😭 if anyone knows what can help lmk
YEA😭 💀
im not a great ear for this kinda stuff but I think the drums are good
overall it sounds a little crowded i think is a good word to describe it? unless thats the vision in which case its great
thanks! the song im mixing in that specific part it should sound crowded, glad it came across that way lol
this is a less crowded part
np!
yeah i think in general this sounds really good
oh are they live?
drums need to come up like 2db, or guitar needs to come down 2db
bass seems to be lacking low end
and guitar is a little scratchy, maybe cut a little 6-8k so it plays better at higher volumes without ear fatigue
this sounds much better
on the drums specifically
the kick and snare should really be the center of the mix, the main rhythmic elements that the rest of the song (besides vocals) will be "pumping" to
So possible sidechain your guitar bus to your kick and snare (just by like 1db, moreso snare)
and definitely sidechain your bass to your kick (i like to take out about -4db with a pretty fast release so it doesn't stay down too long
that second one sounds really good though
if you have room mics, definitely turn them way up as well
idk i did the kick stuff i think but idk if theres any difference 😭
tf is wrong with this export wait
1 2 or 3
just different master settings
i dont even hear a difference idk i dont think it matters
yeah my biggest weakness
thanks for all the feedback

i recreated the drums from Number[s] to the best of my ability
not perfect but really close
this is the first half of the song i couldnt be bothered to place all the midis lol
hi, I am trying to make music (the first time), and I am using VSTs as I don't have a guitar... 90% of my issues are just battling with the software, as I can't even get one simple chord repeatedly strummed to sound right, I am using shreddage 3 free with its presets... I have watched many tutorials telling me how to manipulate the notes but it always ends up very choppy and unnatural, I just want chords to sound right xD anyone who had a similar problem, how did you resolve it?
mutes usually sound bearable in riffs, but sustained chords just aren't it
Okok first of all
No guitar plugin will EVER sound great doing chords
Before you ever get into production, either produce music without a guitar (so electronic or other music) or just buy a guitar
My opinion is kinda controversial but really, just save up and buy a cheapo guitar on marketplace for like $100
Much much much better investment than a plugin
If you want more specific advice feel free to dm me
chat does anyone else use ggd?
some samples just get cut off when playing it back or exporting
the crash
ok its fine while playing back but exporting it is broken
works fine on low cpu scaling? weird
GGD numetal
Still only when exporting?
Been a while but I think when I had a similar problem in the past I ended up turning off offline render or whatever it's called
hi. this is a song that i need help fixixng
i put standard and i dont think its muting anymore? ill keep working like this and see if i notice it again, and yeah i already increased max voices
I'm thinking in the daw but this was years ago idek which daw it was - googling now idk if fl has the option
I assume u are multi outputting ggd so printing to audio in the session would be a pain in the ass?
well something changed and i think its fixed
Oh fuck yea
yea theresl ike 16 mics output
nvm 15 lol yea
what are u tryna fix sounds awesome
ty
no bass?
yeah there's alot of stuff going on here
it sounds like there's a lot of clipping
the guitar sounds pretty thin
the vocals sound like a background element
and the bass is nonexistent
that tom section is clipping pretty badly
drums are way too loud
guitar is lacking any body
This sounds sick as hell bro
dis better?
It's being slammed and limited really hard still
Whats up with the vocals? They sound like they were recorded on a phone?
it sounds about the same
the guitar sounds even quiter
What's going on with this mix lol
the drum eq is better
but the vocals, guitar, and bass need alot of work still
wanna send me the stems and i can try?
its a kontakt problem
it soudns a little squished but i think its fine
It's more than squished for sure
Yeah relistening on my IEMS, everything sounds wonky
@frosty juniper What does your processing look like
its for an all midi contest
finally I can justify not using a real guitar
😭😭
all midi that sounds like a very bendable rule
load full track into sampler and hold c3 for 3 minutes
By all midi I guess they meant all midi virtual instruments
friendly reminder to make sure your master is not clipping 🥰
goes for everyone here
my master is not clipping, I got your chain on there, tweaked some eq and stereo imaging settings to taste of course
before the limiter I managed to get 2db headroom by turning everything down
Firee
Hey I don’t know where to post this
Here’s an idea for an album cover
I thought it was hard
Loathe inspired
#🎨-art
Aha! Thanks!
Pitch shifting lol
i bought odeholm drums with my first paycheck
yeah thats what i mean
the drums sound better, its still super smashed though
yeah send the unprocessed stems
@frosty juniper do you know what the vocals were recorded on
an ipad
are they your vocals?
no their my friends but i did everything else
she sounds like the Galantis vocalist

I really don't need an introduction here. It's Galantis. When you see Galantis in the title you know it's going to be an amazing track. And that's exactly what's happ...
definitely look into having her re-record those into an actual mic
yeah
@frosty juniper You still gonna send the stems?
im curious what i could do with that mix
ey sorry i had to go to school!
@stiff raptor im exporing them now
here is the instramenatl
here are the vox
Alright ill download these tonight
I feel confident in my drum mix, but I want to gather feedback to see if it's up to snuff. Wait 10 seconds (or skip to that point) on the drum-only track to hear the drums
sounding good! what's with that section where the snare is twice as verbed?
if youre trying to do snarebombs, do it only like once every few measures, and have a reverse-reverb going into it
kick could have a bit more low end oomph too
yeah the snare in that section is ridiculously loud
Yeah, I wouldn't usually use snarebombs often, that was just me testing things in a compact space, still appreciate the tip though
Wdym?
I was aiming to test all the shells and cymbals within 8 measures for mixing purposes, as well as a few articulations and drum grooves (which is why that out-of-place blast beat exists)
Yeah lmao
here's something you should be aiming for
For one, definitely put your drums on separate tracks so they don't smash the mix fighting for volume
second, your guitar is too high gain for the song and it ends up being really treble-heavy and clashing with the piano
i would definitely look into re-recording the vocals into a mic
and re-recording the guitar and bass
alot of the takes sound pretty weird or have alot of messups in them
Obviously you do what you want with your song, this is just my general advice ;)
I’m trying to install nuclear bass into reaper but it’s not showing up for whatever reason
Same with Odeholm drums
I’m mad confused
I know I gotta install the kontakt player I did that but now what
@stiff raptor I submitted this in the contest, hopefully the mix is not embarrassingly bad
its not a terrible mix
def pretty smashed
and not sure about those vocals LOL
composition is fire
2nd mix, toned down the compression a bit, improved tom sample tuning, and spent time trying to balance the kick, snare, and toms—the kick's smack is a bit messed up, I didn't have time to fix that
This mix might have done more harm than good, but I'm gathering feedback as with last time
The same 10-second quirk for the drums-only track applies here
i feel so powerful
kick is slightly clicky at the top end yeah
Is your guitar only panned 50% left and right
thats abletons max
wow
My music is going down today, maybe I release some of it again with a new distribution company but most of it will be gone forever.
Thanks to everyone who listen to me.
If someone wants to check it out today the link is
https://open.spotify.com/artist/1DsY8ZMkDr1Ew5hvunKuNI?si=mCsSvmPeQqCQp9mAzgfhXw
why so clicky
Drums are super clicky and pokey yeah
I'd work on having them not so transient heavy
And focus on more clarity, the mix is too dark overall
Hey fl has its own issues
Terrible for tracking instruments
Reaper is the way
Ewww
yea i dont get it 😭 i didnt believe it when they told me about it
reapers midi sucks
the thing is, you can change reaper to have any workflow you want
i set my reaper midi editor to have the exact mechanics as the FL midi editor (arguably the best of any daw)
so, the default keybinds may suck, but you can quite literally change any aspect about it
any keybind, any action, etc
reaper beats every daw in terms of flexiblity and customizability
i like pro tools the most but i still use ableton because of pro tools compexity
pro tools is buggy and unreliable (not to mention the predatory business tactics)
ableton is good, mostly good for live tracks and sound design
i dont have a problem with pro tools
Pro Tools has been the Industry Standard for decades, and there are 13 "very good" reasons why that is! If you're a Reaper user, you're never going to be a pro! But you can get the Ultimate Reaper Guide here: https://transactions.sendowl.com/stores/13224/32269

watch this video (it's a video promoting reaper)
sound design is 100% pro tools
if you really want sound design get bitwig
or reaper for that matter
just watch the video, trust
i just like the way pro tools works live
Its alright
it has its own audio console
most daws have that
no like avid has a physical live audio console
that works with pro tools and venue\
it's not good for the average user
and those consols work with any daw that accepts midi control
only massive studios even have the budget to buy consoles like that anyway
watch this lol
