yeah
Anybody willing to help out with an audio clipping issue
stole the buster odeholm chain
tbh my only issue is it's clipping lol
damn that's really good
ty
I thought clipping added a little more aggression that the song needed, but instead it just put way too much distortion on it
hopefully it sounds better now
not bad
new mix
need critics and what to improve
ill add another lead guitar layer in the prechorus later
o yea is the keychange transition fine? i just took a C# powerchord and pitched it up to D#(0:27)
idk if its like too random or is there a better way to do it
Keychange transitions are tricky to pull off unless you know what you’re doing, studying some basic music theory will help to know what works and what doesn’t, and if you are just starting out like I would suggest writing simpler songs after taking reference and observing the song structure and similarities of songs in the genre that you want to make
woah
Shreddage 3 hydra and Djinnbass 2
im tryna find =out hwo to continue this
i have a pretty noob question here, i'm using reaper and how can i open that one screen with a keyboard and a timeline to place notes? i'm trying to create a virtual bass line, i really don't know how to explain this
insert - new midi item, double click on it
Hi guys! First time ever recording after playing guitar for about 6 months. I managed to add some drums and some bass aswell but I think the mix is quite off. What should I do different, any tips or tricks to make it sound more "refined". Thanks!
drums are a bit loud to me
really proud of this mix but i still feel like something's off
Sounds really good
nah it actually works out really well
guys, is there a way to take a bass tab, download it and then convert it into midi? or something like this, i trying to make a virtual bass line but it's been SO FUCKING HARD since i'm playing fast and it always don't sound like it should djasdaspdokaspdkaspd 😭
yeap that's is possible but won't work properly anyways
damn no way i will have to buy a bass 😭
thats something that i dont know how
tabs will be downloaded as notes, you just need to set articulations and force string manually
what bass vst do you use?
i'm using groove bass something like that
is there any channel or videos that you recommend?
ah, submission audio
because thats literally what i were doing, just setting notes
I came up to this by myself, sorry
well anyways i will try
in some days i will post the demo here (probrably asking for help again lol)
Second recording. Tried to not do so much compression but I think I still failed :d
this is actually fire
I'm quite proud of this one compared to my first one haha
cooler guitar sound
What guitar plugin you using?
STL Tonehub
and I used one of the taylor young presets in it but rn I cant remember what it was called
random shot in the dark but does anybody recognize this drum kit library 😅 (probably superior drummer 3, maybe not)
GGD One Kit Wonder: Brutal is available now ▸▸▸ https://ggd.news/OKWBrutal
One Kit Wonder: Brutal brings a chaotic, ultra-heavy sound to the lineup. With a ferocious snare, pummeling kick, tribal single-headed toms and aggressive cymbals, it thrives on the extremes - whether that's straight-up death metal, post-apocalyptic industrial, blackened...
you beat me to it, I was just about to post this
what are your first impressions of that library?
Idk yet. I haven't given it a listen yet as I just woke up. Give me like 5 minutes and you'll have your answer.
First impressions, this doesn't offer anything special that OKW Metal couldn't do.
Like honestly it feels like a OKW Metal 2.0
Not that that's a bad thing because I think it sounds better than Metal but honestly, if you have the other OKWs, you can honestly skip this one.
exactly, its like OKW Metal 2.0 with slightly extra saturated aggressive rock rooms in the dirt mics
You can honestly get similar results by making a Frankenkit of Pop Punk, Metal, Aggressive Rock, and maybe Architects.
IF that is you own all the previous metal focused GGD libraries.
metal for the kick, pop punk for the snare and agressive rock for the rooms
there are some unique cymbals that are not in any of the ggd libraries in OKW brutal but nothing that I would pay for imo
Ppl have said it for a long time but I think GGD is at a point where they need their own launcher.
Or at least now I think they've reached that point.
that would be great, but kontakt is not too much of an issue either for me, since I am used to using it so much
but all the GGD drum sample libraries in a single plugin in the form of expansion packs like ezdrummer would be awesome
Indeed.
Or like ML Drums.
Here's what I feel like is happening.
Since GGD is a young company compared to say Steven Slate or Toontrack, coming up around 2017 or 2018, I feel they made the same mistake early Toontrack made.
Where they made a "general" kit and delved into the specific kit sounds later.
And the despite the later kits sonically being superior, people were still using the older kits. But Toontrack has the advantage that the other kits are recorded at different studios with different engineers behind them. With GGD its just Nolly doing most of the leg work.
Idk @ruby jay what's your opinion on that.
made a quick demo and tried the new STL tone Lance prenc on guitars
would you like a short demo
built a like 6 second sample track to compare with my band
OKW: Brutal
same beat, P5 Matt Halpern kit
I NEEEEEEEEED
Thoughts on krimh drums free?
I think it offers way more than the free ml drums
then go for it
if it's free
i personally used krimh drums until i got GGD products
Yeah at the time I can't go for anything that actually costs money but this one is one I would buy that's not too expensive
I think they are great, I don't like that snare though, that's why I am using the ML Drums free snare. Other than that I normally combine the kick with a sample to make it more fitting for more processed sounding drums, I like that more
i liked the snare better than the P5 snare
but now i have the brootal kit so i can just use that snare
It actually offers a lot less. In terms of tone I do like it more and it sits in mixes extremely well, but the problem is you can't multi-out the free version or have control over the levels. Krimh Drums free is very good, but VERY gimped.
Yeah
I do not like the kick on ml drums free. It ruined the sound of my mixes and that's why I looked into krimh
Although it could just be the result of amateur mixing
Compared to ML Drums free where you have control over almost everything minus a few things here and there, and upgrading ML Drums is VERY inexpensive compared to Krimh Drums which is almost as much as EZDrummer 2 was back in the day (basically 130 bucks).
Krimh Drums is EXTREMELY powerful, however if your looking for drums on a budget, I highly recommend ML Drums or the One Kit Wonders by GGD.
The new brutal one? Yeah. Honestly because I already have the metal kit, I will be skipping brutal simply because metal does what brutal does. Brutal is sonically better though.
i basically bought brutal for the snare

hate the kick & toms they sound way too processed, cymbals sound killer in a mix tho so i use the P5 kick + toms and brutal snare + cymbs
I made post black
So, I don't know the first thing about music production. I'm a singer/songwriter who can play drums at an ok level (but not good enough for the latest song I wrote), but I don't play guitar or piano. All my music buddies around me irl are worship/blues/country type guys and this song is a modern metalcore song. I think this one is killer, but I have no idea how to bring it to life.
If you have a decent PC, Learn how to use the reaper DAW, and then just to start learning midi programming get some nice free instruments like Vital synth, electric guitar instruments like ample bass, sforzando metal gtx by unreal instruments, a nice acoustic guitar vst like ample M free, if you want to learn routing instruments individual faders you can learn how to use a sample player called kontakt player, and use some kontakt sample libraries like shreddage precision bass and stratus for electric guitar, and use ML drums free as they sound pretty cool for free instruments
Foe some free effect plugins, Novo EQ is nice one to start with, there are great free compressors, exciters, clippers and limiter built in reaper itself, but if you want nice emulations of real mixing gear, Analog Obsession has some pretty cool plugins of that kind. For a free guitar amp you can use ML Sound Amped roots and free bass amp like Bass grinder by audio assault
That is all you really need to start making metal tracks
i used to be a sforzando metal gtx user lol
Sounds like I've got a lot of stuff to start learning. Appreciate the head start.
instead of sforzando id recommend heavier7strings or odin iii to start with
i started with sforzando and i wish i started with something else tbf
little idea inspired a bit by the melodic sides of volumes
please let me know your thoughts on the mix, especially vocals
IMO the vocals feels very mixed with the instruments, i would turn the guitars down just a little (remembering that im noob in mixing and everything) but its pretty good 👍
the vocals fee la bit hollow, probably an EQing issue
noted, thank you
i see, ill try to fix it somehow thanks!
Anyone got a recommendation for quality Bluetooth headphones for just listening like at the gym or something? I ain’t tryna spend over 350 dollars for casual listening lol
I hear raycon is pretty good
Oh and btw this is for music production like mixing and stuff btw
I know, I just figure music nuts like you guys would know lol
I produce stuff too, I just don’t do a lot of listening outside of my studio
that snare is panging!!! which snare is it?
the main snare is from invasion
ggd
but i think i layered some other snares
hold on
yh its this snare
best snare ive ever heard
trash can snares on top🙏
It may be cuz I’m using my phone speakers rn, but the kick sounds like it’s lacking some bass, but that may be what you were shooting for anyway
trying experimentall thall cyberpunk structure wtfff am i doing
thats sick, the snare could have more presence apart from the ring
this is just solid af
guitars loud, drums could pierce through more. banger shit tho
Thank you for the crits!
Ty lol
Slightly bright. Prolly something you can cut with the eq tho.
tried the GGD cali cab sim
I need your help for my interface, it doesn't work 😭
Exported in mp4 bc i want3d to shwo it to my mobile rriends but heres an instrmental
thats really good
Ty lol
lossless thing
im now writing an album aparently
i think i mioght rename this and put it in the middle instead of being the first song
i feel like it works better as an intermission rather than a prologue
nice atmosphere
i like the glitching
i need an opinion on volume levels, are the vocals too loud? are the drums loud enough?
volume levels are fine but the EQing feels a little bit off
the high end specifically is a bit high while the mids feel low
hmm thank you, ill try to fix it
lol you were right, it instantly sounds better after doing minimal eq adjustments
Nice lol

i'm trying to do a fade in but instead of the volume starting at 0 and going up what is happening is the amp sim/gain start on 0 and goes up how do i change this?
😭
however you do automation in your daw, try to adjust the amp sim gain there, sorry, I'm a cubase user, not sure what daw this is.

What do you do when you're uninspired
Look for something to spark inspiration I always listen to a new genre and it helps spark my creativity in making music

i fixed rthis finally
guys
is this fast improvement or slow
i found a clip of my mix sound 1 year ago, i believe november
and now
or did my mix fall off 😭
so i just copy/pasted a few things from one logic project to another
i turn on the metronome on the second project, because it's in weird time signatures and i want to make sure i'm getting it all right
the metronome accidentally assigns itself to the MIDI bass track... and it's in key and sounds badass
is there anyone here who can help me copy synths from songs
i tried combining phonk with uptempo and it went well, i think? maybe it sucks idk, i like it though
this is badass, do u have a vocalist
idk if its just my headset or sometimes it sounds like audio clipping
1:53
duposed to be a transition
yeah, me
made this track today to check out the refx vanguard and ezmix vsts
been a while since i mixed and mastered something but i managed to get advices from keyan houshmand after he checked one of my tracks and tried to apply it to some of my mixes
fire
Why no try combining them instead of trying to stick to one?
is this heat
i tried eqing my kick better idk if its bad or not my headset is ass
im gonna end up like those pretentious multigenre bands that everybody gatekeeps and praises (im not that good but i just dont like that outlook)
im kidding but thats a good idea
might try it
\
what kind of effects would you use to make a midi guitar sound like a synth like in this clip
Hello! When in songs the left and right guitar switches, then the audio levels stay fairly the same on the guitars, even when theyre double tracked, but when I do it, then the levels are way off, why is that? Heres the example about what I mean and a screenshot.
i mean wouldnt it makes sense cuz its played 2 guitars at once
so its double the volume
use a limiter or something
or just manually adjust the volume
And also probably because the guitars are not 100% left or right it seems which kinda overlap them in the middle a bit
And increase the volume slightly more
And yea either a limiter or a compressor can help with that volume difference
But i'd use a compressor as its not entirely cuting the signal above the threshold point
true, though what i did i just automated the separate left and right volumes to be bit louder at those moments, for now that worked for me
cheers though
hello! i hope i ruined this for someone
this needs a volume warning
wtf
alien communication
extraterrestrial
that's with the volume suppressed, it was louder before
can someone help me find a sound effect? i have it in a lossy format but i wanna know which sound pack its from so i can check the pricing i wanna get it
ive searched everywhere i cant find it, its not layered or anything its just how it is
like ive reached a dead end i cannot find it for the life of me, checked a bunch of epic stock media packs, browsed on multiple sfx pages, nothing
best i could describe the sound is an airy low impact
with a rising attack before the impact
i wish there was like a website where u could throw a sound effect at and it would find similar sounds
you wouldnt happen to know which cymatics pack could it be? i never got any cymatics and idk which one to get lol
i just checked like random 2 ones i had lying around and its not there
i thought cubase was a vst
and im certain its not cubase its an actual sfx from one of these sound fx packs, i just dont knw which one
ive got like 20gigs of sound packs, both paid and free ones and i literally went thru all of them
i really need that sound lol
cubase is a daw with its own sound packs @frosty juniper
ooooooooh
i thought its like a sound generator synthesizer
ill check it out but i have high doubts for cubase, its probably more something like cymatics or epic stock media, or similar pack publishers
im still desperate for this impact im gonna check cubase out anyways
guys what do you think?

how about this?
delete this for the sake of our eardrums 🗣️ 👂
pretty close but i dont think that's it
i found a slightly higher quality version but its still not lossless like WAV or FLAC
so its still kinda mid
well if anyone finds this lmk
its still better than the last one but its not the raw file still
missing high frequencies
i gotta check out more of kshmr i think it could be something from these packs
Trivium Drums was created with one goal in mind — to deliver pro-level drum tracks fast. From the moment you launch the MIDI drum instrument, you have access to Alex Bent’s drum sound, recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren and ready for use in your next song. If you prefer mixing yourself, switch from Processed to Natural, which removes Jens’ mix pr...
Y'all like Trivium? Have their drummer!
I made this ages ago it's not that great. Never been a good producer lol just made it when I was bored. Still proud of it cuz at least it's something. it's silent for 12 seconds bare with it 😭
Wtf 🤣
Do do doo do do do do
I could probably fix it tbh
fr
The melody’s decent
The drum beat ruins it
ur right
Send me the audio of just the melody
.
im fixing it a bit
i can be arsed pitching it up cuz theres SFX with the root note im using and its too much word
No need, it’s fixed
what genre even is this
Shit-pop
you've somehow made it sound like sped up bolywood
Sure
I’ll take your word for it
I finished doing a tiny bit of mixxinh
some of it I fucked up but icba fixing
I changed it again 😭
It sounds like video game music
It’s a neutral statement
ok
You play as a blue humanoid alien walking through a desert fighting mummy’s
Only after the beat drop
LOL
well i'm excited
are y'all excited?
i feel like between this, OKW brutal, and P:V matt halpern sig i won't need any other kits
what drums program does nik use? they sound so good
he has a custom one made for him by ashtone iirc
how do I get rid of the noise it makes when I slide on the strings? A compressor? Because I already have a noisegate
i don't know a lot about mixing on DAWs lol
better eq will remedy the harshness of both your guitars and can be for your cymbals as well
Define “better eq” what can I change about it to make it better
maybe a dip somewhere at 4k or maybe 3k for cymbals and maybe a bit less of 1k or 2k on the guitars
in terms of the hz range
I do all my eq on my pedles and i don't have a multiband eq pedal. Should I set all my pedles eq levels to noon and do all my eq in software? Or just keep it how it is on the pedles and edit the eq on software?
and I can't exactly change the cymbals it's a backing track
Couls i gdt some help in getting my kick drum to osubd like this?

Looking into purchasing a virtual drum kit plug in and I'm torn between Get Good Drums "One Kit Wonder: Brutal" and Solemn Tones "Mjölnir Drums". Wondered if anyone had any suggestions or a preference of one over the other?
Krimh Drums or Trivium Drums by Bogren Digital has a really good engine and good sounds
Addictive Drums is incredible and has a sale rn
I prefer ggd architects tbh
I think it goes down to personal preference in the end, or how you plan on using it
testing an ezdrummer library on an already existing song
Anyone want to help me write some swancore riffs? I keep ending up with more of a tap-djent thing and that's not what I want
welp
What is swancore? If you mind explaining I mean
(I prefer people over google)
Progressive/mathy post-hardcore that blends and bends the genre, things like Dance Gavin Dance, Animal Jam, Dwellings, Origami Button, Pulses., Cat Company, etc...
Hi Folks, I just released my new album which has 10 songs, All Turkish but hope you can enjoy with it https://open.spotify.com/intl-tr/artist/1iaNNQAX5HSyfxCxj0ajHq?si=ZDHfeUqNSyqBiAU5c9M5tA
Don't forget Eidola and Galleons.
I stopped myself before listing a whole paragraph of bands 😛 But yeah, Eidola is peak rn
Here's a list:
Bogren Digital - These are very high quality kits however they are pretty pricey for what they offer. Krimh is 133 USD which is a lot. Trivium is cheaper 100 USD, which isn't bad but you can't swap kit pieces which is disappointing. With Krimh, you're limited on swappable kit pieces. That said the plugin gives stuff inside the plugin to mix the drums however you see fit.
Mixwave - They can get pricey in a hurry but right now they're doing a 30% off sale. You got big name kits like Brooks Wackerman (A7X), Mario Duplantier (Gojira) and Austin Archery (Lorna Shore). They range anywhere from 100 bucks to 190, and each kit is different. You're limited on swappable kit pieces, but these are probably the most "mix-ready" kits in the game if that's the route you wanna go. They have limited drum mixing stuff, but you can make them completely raw and mix them yourself. It's also really light on CPU.
Getgood Drums - If you do go the route of the cheaper One Kit Wonders, just be aware you won't be able to pan your kits like you can with their bigger kits which can suck. You can turn off the processing though to mix them yourself. Should you get the bigger kits, you'll get a LOT with them. Including the ability to switch out pieces of the kit, and the turbo can come in handy. Overall if you're looking for the most "bang for your buck", GGD is probably the best.
Toontrack - EzD3's expansion packs you can mix and match alone make it tempting. However the bandmate feature can make a drum pattern for you when you import your guitar riff, and then you can edit the midi for it inside EZD! Not as mix ready but if you like mixing then this is for you. Only issue, base is 230 USD. Expansions are 90.
ML Drums - The first kit is FREE. However you can mix the kit in the plugin and have different tunings! The expansions are only 45 USD too which are cheaper than EZD's and you can mix and match and doesn't use Kontakt! Very affordable and somewhat mix ready.
So you can't pan the one kit wonders, but does it come pre-panned?
Uhhh....ish....they're to Nolly's specs so, they aren't bad. But when everything else is like this <- -> the drums can sound like this -> <- at least in my experience.
Ah I see
Thanks
I love the sound of the brutal kit for the snare and whatnot
But i was wondering if panning would be an issue
Don't let it discourage you, I'm sure you can use the pan pots in your DAW to finagle it.
That's what I'm doing atm.
Alright thanks
Hey guys.
Toontrack is doing a Superior Drummer 3 sale for 25% off.
They NEVER ever do this so it's worth at least looking at.
i got seventy two cents
Relatable
Lol
lol 💀
I'm thinking about getting Ultimate Heavy Drums from MDL Tone.
If I do end up going for it, I might sell my GGD libraries for it.
With the except of Aggressive Rock (which is my favorite library).
I use Mjolnir Drums and find midi files to use cause idk anything about drums
I feel that. I know nothing about programming drums. I use EZD to help me a lot.
I love reaper
It's the only one I know how to use honestly
But if I learned cakewalk that's a great one too
Reaper and cakewalk
the otto II II II somethinfg something is really sick
Lol thanks
im using reaper and to record i let it in loop until i get a good take but in the end it shows all the takes, is there a way to disable this and show only the last one?
iirc you can choose the right take and then press alt+shift+t to make it the only take displayed
idk if there is a way to achieve exactly what you asked for, that's the closet i know you can get
yes its this, tysmm :)
np
alt+shift+t
o
it was answered
Reflex IRs are raw and unprocessed captures that are naturally mix-ready. It has become common practice to post-process guitar tones and accept the flaws in guitar cabs. Traditional guitar cabs are not optimized for miking up but were designed for loud stage use while a guitarist's priority is miked up guitar tone.
They be on sale my dudes.
What DAW do yall use for programming drums? I’m thinking of going for FL studio, but is there a better one?
i mean i use fl since im used to it but a lot of people reccomend stuff like reaper
i use Fl studio and i love it for drums
That's what I use
TBH I don't really use a DAW to make my drums. I use EZDrummer2 (but I'm planning to upgrade to EZDrummer3, but sometimes I will use my GGD grooves too) simply because the grooves it has helps me a lot. However I want to update to EZD3 because of the bandmate feature and the built in midi editor.
After that I export my midi from EZD2 and use MidiRemap to remap them for GGD so I can use my OKWs.
This is a drum kit by former Intervals and Monuments drummer Anup Sastry and producer Alex Rudinger (Whitechapel). And it's on sale for 70 bucks!
Hey boys and girls (and everything in between), GGD is running a fall sale!
It's mixture of a few.
Anyone have any guitar plugin or library suggestions to make heavy Metalcore? Looking for something that does low tuning
Holy
what would they be?
changed bass pattern idk if its better like this
if the bass is even audible enough
tried ot make it sound more "SLAP"
got a new bass vst and libraries
thats cool
i see you have sounds of kshmr vol 4
PVTHOS recommended it to me and its pretty awesome
holy moly am i the only one not using fl
tbh i dont really use it that often i was just looking for a sound effect i heard somewhere
i already found it tho :P
this one
changed bass again
kshmr vol 3 is better imo
has sup drops impact all sorts of goodies
crazy good for metal
i mainly use djinn bass II
new snare mix idk if i just ruined everything
rate how close I got to Tallah's guitar tone
Well it's definitely Pissed-core, with some Post Metal thrown in and some deathcore sprinkled in.
welp heres song two
dont you find a tone like this gets buzzy on long rung notes? but idk maybe the vsts just dont do that like real bass
I haven't noticed that, but I also haven't used djinnbass ii for very long
anyone here got tips for vocals production? i have a sample i can share
just need to make em sound more studio/professional quality
I got nothing 😊
helpful
Helpful is not my middle name
JST has some tips on their YouTube channel. Also they have a couple of vocal plugins dedicated just for vocals.

here's what i've actually got, it's a partial cover of an emmure song. don't mind the vocals sounding like shit, i recorded them slightly tipsy so that i could practice the actual mixing
i'll check out this JST tho
It's Joey Sturgis' company.
He has a few. JST focuses on guitar, bass, and vocals, with the YouTube channel dedicated for mixing tips. Drumforge is made specifically for drums. And URM Academy is Joey's online school dedicated to teaching you how to mix metal.
JST stuff goes on sale all the time.
Just wait for a sale.
currently on sale for $139 instead of $140
helpful
it does have a trial tho so imma give that a go
Yee go for it.
Also lol
Those drums are massive
Ty lol
Anybody know a good interface I can travel with? Not looking for something particularly fancy, just something I can take on a plane
Focusrite 2i2.
thanks
I got mine used
Good condition
Good price
Super small
10/10
What kind of music do you make?
Mostly modern metalcore/fusion
Nicee
I'm sure it's great
Me either
Believe me
Someone's mixing me ep for me
PVTHOS
He's on this server actually
who knows mabye ill submit my stuff to Glenn Fricker tonight and see how he roasts it lol
I'd be too scared to do that lmao
I was physically unable to not read that in Glenn's voice
Same 😭
I usually use subtractive EQ to clean it up. Sometimes I'll use EQ to boost some frequencies but often I'll use an exciter on the specific frequency I want to enhance the sound and then kick in the harmonic circuit to add some sauce.
Oh nice
ok gamers question
what/how do you all do to put samples into tracks
is there like a plugin or do y'all just raw input some mp3s
i raw input usually
but sometimes use built in sampler plugins
if i want to like play the sound on the keyboard
i jsut drag and drop from ym sample library
depends on what sample im using
if its like an impact or effect then i just drag and drop
if its a multisample (synth oneshot) then i put it into sa sampler so i can manipulate the notes
reminds me of happy hardcore and idk why
what kinda
sampler
Fl studio default
Oof
This goes so hard
tried some new mixing techniques, how does it sounds?
Does anyone have tips on how to make transitions from verse to chorus and chorus to verse better?
better mix? maybe
define better
if u want a chorus to feel like it hits harder have one instrument solo for like a bar before the chorus or have a pause in general idk
It feels like whatever verse I come up with it doesn't fit the chorus
i went pretty hard on that one ngl also 1st time actually trying to make a trap beat lol
ok so here is the full thing
it's not mixed yet tho
i don't have a headset anymore since the last one i have died so i need to get another one and i'll do the mix when i'll get it
better drum mix ig
Dude drums aound massive! How'd you do that?

I agree with chao
Sounds massive
Also amazing songwriting
it's a blend of GGD libraries, few trigger kick + snare sample and lot of post-processing
Thank you!
wrote a lil riff inspired by new northlane ish
It's cool how different our mixing styles are.
this reminds me of nin but with heavier drums
i guess guitars were too quiet
Nine inch nails lol
ive an idea
so you know how djent riffs can be like binary or something
and then we have morse code whythms
what if we combine thte two
tried to master this better
northlane inspirations!
Urgitone Drums is going out of buiness and everything is legit $5-$20 bucks.
ITs a feeding frenzy for samples if you need them.
holy shit
It´s always sad to see companies like this go out of business but god damn is that a nice sale
I´m just starting to get into music production stuff and am really hesitant to spend money right now without the proper experience to use it but this is just such a steal. Also apparently the sale runs til the end of the year, so no fomo
Hey man I made all the mistakes with music production.
I'm not sure what your budget is, or your long term goals with music production.
As far as I see with Urgitone. The most useful thing you can do is use the kick/snare samples for layering inside the free version Trigger 2.
As I listen to them. I think most of their stuff needs heavy editing.
If you need a list of absolute safe bets for your upcoming black friday... here....
-Fabfilter Bundle, or at least Pro Q3/ProMB (transparent plugins)
-Soothe 2 (everyone uses this)
-Nueral DSP Amp Sims (Pick tone to taste. I reach for Gojira X and Plini X often)
-GGD Cabs (pick to taste)
-UAD or Waves plugin bundles for color enhancement. At the least, get SSL/API eq's/compressors. Bundles. (These are used a ton in your favorite records.)
-Trigger 2 (Drum shaping and layering ... also free)
GGD, Toontrack, or Drumforge Drums.
Below is a list of free goodies.
-Vital (most user friendly, highest quality, free synthesizer) I learned how to use synthesis with this.
-Nova eq (In case you cannot afford fabfilters pro q 3)
Hardware.
Sound is determined by your room. Buying really good openback headphones, and then dampening your room for outside noise is always going to be cheaper and more accurate than having monitors in an improperly treated room.
I favor spending the money on a really good audio interface, and headphones first. Learning on a balanced system is important. Also having a system you can safely take with you when you move frim place to place, is important.
It truely sucks to have studio equipment you cant use because something happens and you're stuck in a apartment, and cant bother your neighbors.
Closed back headphones will make everything feel smaller, but if you are tight on money and need the isolation, those will get the job done.
Reccomended brands for headphones.
Seinheisser (650 series and up)
Beyerdynamics (1770 series and up) ((my personal choice is the DT 1990's)
Dampening a room is easy. Sealing from the outside noise is very hard and expensive. The biggest problems are always doors, and windows from street noise. With windows comes ventilation problems.
I used spring loaded curtain rods from amazon and a sound dampening blankets from US cargo control. Again, if you move from place to place, Easy dissasemble and reassemble. Doesnt damage the apartment. And machine washable.
Theres are a bunch of tips. But the general Idea is "What is really safe to do so I don't have to spend moeny all over again?"
Do your research. If you're short on cash... google "Free plugin alternative for (insert plugin name here"
Prioritize.
Good audio interface and headphones first.
Then plugins.
I found my holy gospel.
Jokes aside, thanks a lot for that breakdown
xD
Gonna check it out a bit (also completely forgot about black friday coming up)
Yeah man. Get a list and start working overtime. xD
I like premium audio interfaces so I can run more plugins, sounds better, and records better. Especially important if you're a guitarist/bassist. (This means a good computer too)
I find the entry level stuff like the Scarlett interfaces from guitar always breaks within 3 years... and sounds a bit cold. I've had 2 break on me. And for that, I could have had a nicer interface that never broke. lol.
Can't speak for other entry level interfaces cause I never tried them. I could be wrong about them.
Most interfaces you need something called a DI, box to "Clean" the signal. I had a friend who had a Radial Engineering DI box. Sounded amazing. Only important if you are planning to record guitar and bass.
Otherwise you're looking for chipset power to drive your audio.
But
Depends what your goal is.
Try to find out if you just want "A better sound for writing music":
or if you want to "Chase the best sound to the bitter end"
Cause that's the difference between making a decent demo, or making final production. Two very different quests.
Demo's are cheap. Slap a neural dsp amp sim, Parallax for bass tone, drum sampler, closed back headphones (Like Beyer Dynamics DT 770 pro's), and use the built in plugins in a Daw. There you go.
.... but that sweet buttery sound can be so inspiring to sink your hot knife ears into. xD Tears and wallet aside.
I got into production because I didn't want to pay a producer to do it every time I wanted to put something out. I wanted to use the money to buy studio gear, and keep that with me forever.
Non re occurring finances. A few years of learning production is good.
I've spent 20k on useless gear and acoustic treatment.. and drummed on the street when I was 15 to pay for it. Had to throw alot of it away when I moved. I fucked up XDDDDD
If I were to do production all over again.... I'd hire multiple instructors for private lessons. I would pay for advice. Sourcing good information is so important. Jesse Cannon is my favorite guy. Super clear, articulate, and accurate. A great explainer. I'd subscribe to URM academy just to listen to him. Sadly he doesn't have more production videos online. Just a few on mixing/mastering.
Badabing bada boom. Hope this save's you years of grief. xD
Yeah, URM is the route I´m thinking about going because it just seems like the best combination of decent price and all the resources and people involved that I´d love to learn from.
As of now I´d just like to get a better understanding of tone and writing, which is hard/kinda pointless to do, without the proper plugins (but also without the proper equipment, but as of now I think that´s fine)
Playing around with eq before an amp really helped me understand tone.
Writing is a whole different animal.
Yeah, absolutely. One thing after the other. Never dabbled too much in writing because...what´s the matter if you lack the skills to realize it.
best idea aint worth shit if you cant do it justice
It takes a long time to fully run the lap of realizing what things can turn out to be, and what the limitations are.
In my experience.
Best monitoring first.
Then best source sounds you can. The better the source, the less production you have to deal with. Getting the most mileage out of your amps/cabs, and your drums.
Then production to push everything in its slot.
Lots of people sit and, guess what is changing.
good monitoring, makes it really fucking obviouse.
actually
Go to a HI-FI audio store (People that make 100k sound setups) and just sit in a room and demo stuff. Pretend to shop for headphones or speakers.
That was the moment that did it for me.
Pretend to be some fuckin rich kid and get a taste of a good room, and good headphones.
You'll see exactly what I am talking about.
while on the topic, any hints for a good free DI box vst?
I personally havent seen anything free. I just haven't looked. Cheapest I've seen is a plugin called DI FIX, but I still find DI box's to make the most audible difference.
I'm not too familiar with the D.I. box market. But lucky for you. It's hardware. Hardware goes great on the used market. Find someone who is quitting guitar and nab it off them.
As dark as this next piece of advice sounds. When musicians go through financial trouble and begin to sell gear to change directions... thats where you get a really good deal.
I think the ones to look for are Radial engineering, coutryman, and baby lamb audio?
Again. Not sure whats out there.

KRIMH DRUMS IS ON SALE FOR 50% OFF
ML Sound Lab stuff is now 50% off!
GGD is running a Black Friday sale to December 1st!
Damn holy
OneKitWonders for 36€!? Daaaaamn
Between me going to 5 shows and all the BF sales this is gonne be one hell of an expensive month
once again plugging the bogren digi trivium kit
krimh is cool but if you want drums that kick mega major ass go for the trivvies
like this is an emmure song with the trivium drums which should tell you how versatile they get
I cant figure out how to get my track sounding wide. So many other mixes just feel like they take more space. Any advice?
Cool song. Is guitar double tracked? You could also consider panning different things, other than guitar like orchestral elements. I'm definitely not a mixing master but that's all I can say for you.
Really awesome song though
can you send the bass stem only, wanna hear how it sounds solo
ya double tracked guitar, same settings both panned hard left and right
not sure what style youre going for but to me this sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooo distorted to me
i think the treble in the bass is fucking with guitar mix
my bass sounds pretty raw actually but its more preference ig
this is how my bass sounds isolated
ive seen people using heavier distortion on bass but i cant pull it off and its not what im going for rn anyways
i dont usually put any distortion or effects on my bass except like a limiter lol
ya I'm running it through parallax X but i think you might be on to something with so much conflicting in the mids
ya, im going to record it all later but this is faster for writing
o nice
are u sure this isnt an octave too low? does the bass always play this low or is it just this part lol
but yea this is sounding better
i mean if you can play it on a real bass then its fine ig
i just odnt think my vst bass can even go that low 😭
Djinnbass 2, it goes stupid low. tbh my bass tuned that low sounds so much worse. Here is a new test with a widener plugin on the guitars and a dif bass amp plugin and settings i think its a little closer
this is much better damn
You guys ever tried putting your whole melody onto a single note (in a piano roll or something) and messed around the timing to really draw out some smooth syncopation and flow? I watched a video on it and was suprised how awesome it worked
would anyone know what is CG and NV when it comes to irs?
Tearout dubstep is so fucking easy
FYI: URM has started their Black Friday sale
i feel like something's missing in the mix but i don't know what
does your guitar have reverb on it?
it has some cloudy mid frequencies that can be tamed a little bit
maybe the snare is a little bit quiet
i made slight changes since
yea i also sent the guitar soloed if it helps
maybe you low passed the guitar bus to the point that it sounds a little bit muffled
try brightening the tone up maybe
better?
better than before
This isnt done yet, the intro is still badly played cause i just needed a filler before actually learning it, and ive only recorded halfway through the song. no bass or vocals either. Mainly wondering how my tone is, and wether I need to mess with the drums a bit more. Found them on yt and downloaded it so the most i can do is EQ, but they sound pretty accurate anyway so should be good.
what i have recorded isnt polished much either
Is your guitar single coil? Sounds similar to my strat with a DS-1 and Marshall sim. Idk what your using but if it's a single coil, I usually go bass and treble up around eight or nine, with mine it makes it sound more full. Mids about 4. Double track, pan, and bass. Song sounds cool though, really like the solos that you did on it
humbucker
idk then. what kind of tone are you going for exactly?
still dunno kinda trying out different amp settings and stuff
Are you using sims or real amps?
no mic to record with so sim
What software? I'm familiar with the ones on logic but not so much with other ones
guitar rig
i dont really touch the settings in the amp when doing eq i do it with pro q
Sounds kinda like an orange or vox sim to me, out of curiosity are you using physical pedals or virtual?
Im my experiance virtual pedals sound pretty goofy
no pedals 💀
just like
noise gate - amp - cab sim - eq
if i want any effects on guitar i will do it with other software inside FL studio
amp gain? that could be why it sounds wierd. Try adding a pedal right after noise gate or getting a physical pedal. Turn amp gain all the way down and let the pedal do its thing. I'm not familiar with FL studio so can't help you much sadly.
tbh i dont even know what pedals are for 😭
i have this before my amp thats it idk if thats what u mean
Pedals basically change the sound going into your amp. For example a distortion pedal distorts the signal, a delay pedal makes it all echoey, reverb makes it very sustainy, ect
I'm guessing your not that familiar with recording then?
i mean i got my first guitar like 3 months ago
prolly something like this but im tryna get my own unique sound instead of copying 1 to 1
i dont have stems for it so
I would really just do a lot of research and experimentation then. Watch some Spectre Sound Studios videos, most likely he will have an answer to really any question you have. (Although Glenn is a bit of an asshole so be aware of that.) Experiment with different amps and stuff, screenshot settings you like and stuff like that. Your playing is really good for someone who just started a few months ago though, keep it up. Hope this helps!
o yea i watched some spectre videos
recorded vocals the next day

I think this belongs in here. Im looking to get into producing music and im not sure what DAW to go with. I have cakewalk atm and its good but I want to move to something els and something paided. Any suggestions would be help full n thanks
reaper is the best DAW to check out
If your looking for a DAW for cheap Reaper is the way to go. It has everything you could need and is very community driven. Any updates made by the devs have been requested by their community.
Not even to mention that you dont even really have to pay for it, but use the free version.
You want a new DAW? Get Reaper.
Sweet thanks guys I’ll look into it
i feel so violent today
Anyone do audio mixing as a full time job in here?
lead guitar sounds a bit weird
fruity loops studio :P
and if you know where to look you dont have to pay for it
got GGD OWK Brutal. It does what it says, my god
Damn I want it so bad
This is probably old news to you guys...
Lil synthy boi
Pair this with GGD OKW Architects and maybe STL Josh Middleton and you'll be set for them Architects tonez.
Damn didn't know that existed
This just came out. As GGD Architects yeah its been out for a while. People kept requesting it when they found out at that time Nolly was working with them during Holy Hell and For Those Who Wish to Exist.
Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to fix timing issues of guitar in Reaper?
depends on what you mean
if it´s input delay I´d bet my ass it´s about the audio driver you´re using
could be the buffer size too if it's delay
Switch the Audio driver to ASIO, reduce buffer to at least 192 (or less, but 192 works fine for me) and you should be golden
My production teacher wants me to get into psychoacoustics now lol.
Apparently he has nothing left to teach me in terms of static mixing and wants me to mix more dynamically.
Mind you this guy has been doing this since the 70s.
Man's an OG.
Hey would anyone be able to check out my band on Spotify it's called impia and our single is called sacrifice under the moon, can anyone give me any tips on the mix?

Yes
This goes harder than a microwaved sandwitch
What the hell im listening to?
Hey guys, I need some help.
I'm the vocalist of a DIY band, also their producer, and I struggle with editing guitars, vocals, and bass.
Do you have any tips for me or know of a plugin that could help me edit faster?
Right now, I'm editing note by note, and it's driving me crazy. ;-;
Wat
Close enough
I think there is no other way when u do midi you can only edit note by note
i mean there are some plugins that can help with that
but not much
they are def not for metal i think
fixed loud ass bass i didnt even notice it until i listened to it from different headphones
oh ur trolling

yea it's new
That's really cool
i might need to check how it sounds but my only complain is it only has 3 toms and i usually use 4 and sometimes 5 since i use a blend of krimh drums and the matt halpern sig
It just came out like a day or 2 ago.
Awesome
Wow 3 is a surprise
I've switched from GGD to EZD3 cuz Kontakt is a pain in my ass.
If I were get another GGD drum library it'd probably be either this one or a Modern & Massive 2 (if they ever do one which I doubt).
Cuz I do like the sound of Modern & Massive (I really don't like Invasion, even though everyone and their mother seems to like it).
Damn... but thank you! ^^

Hey yall, ive been having issues with Neural Amp Modeler. The tones sound great but I have to throw one hell of a noise gate on it for it not to buzz, so much that my playing doesnt even make it through sometimes. Using the noise gate built into the plugin btw
anybody know a solution?
noise gate is practicxally mandatory unfortunately
open back or closed back headphones

damn i wish i knew pro q 4 is out

My vocals are a bit wonky here because im doing the high more often
I am resting tho so im taking a wrek break from recorsing vocals
Im constricting just a teeny bit more
So ima relax
does nik use any plugins, compressors, EQ etc on his drums?
Cyberpunk type shit
remaking this legendary track
tried the new odeholm drums and it's massive af though i made it very quickly so the volumes of the kick and snare especially are a bit loud i'll work on that tomorrow
the drums sounds are the stock processed sounds

Smt I made after listening to zillakami then Nik
What do you all think of these absurdly mixed drums?
Does anyone know how I can get / use Opus by EastWest in ableton? Google and YouTube hasn't been helpful in the SLIGHTEST and its kinda pissing me off
Made a ripoff of Deathphonk/Mirar's "SAMSON!" lmao
First off: damn, respect for both trying and executing it pretty well. But is it me, or my headphones, or is the guitar way too muddy and suppressed? Might be me but the guitars feel like they're coming out of a 5$ bluetooth box from 2010
(absolutely no critique, just wondering if that's me or the way it's mixed that doesnt translate)
Okay so
When I was mixing this, I felt like the drums are way too loud
And then when I heard the product, I was like
"Damn, it sounds too muddy"
It might be the amp I'm using though
So I might fix it with another one
Yeah, was wondering. It's lacking the clarity, that's the word I was missing, that's kinda muffling everything. Almost sounds like it's an octave below what it's supposed to be and the mix messes it up more. Keep us posted, I'm eager to hear it
guitars sound muddy? help 🙏
I GOT OPUS TO WORK LETS GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! (Thanks to my homie on tik tok TheRiffReferee)
for me i use fortin nameless neural dsp plugin max out both gain knobs reduce bass
and i eq
reduce the bass even more
and while mix/mastering i increase highend by a db and low end by almost the same amount
try if that works for u
now i rarely use eq, i use tools like soothe2 or smooth operator. on every tracks, including bus. those tools can fix your sound in 5 secs.
now my mixes sounds like a pro. and i proud of it
no one really says it much.... your stuff here is insane im loving it
Thankies
Odeholm my beloved
Ill check them out

i cant tell if this is more back metal or more punk
does anyone here make post-hardcore? i need fellow screamo guitarist friends ;-:
btw ur music is cool
Thank
I used to
the final song is complete
So I made demos and I usually have some amateur mix and master my music for cheap . So I figured to just find a person to mix and master and learn it. I used reapers free plugins such as limiter compressor and filters. I did use ozone imager which is free
So I mixed one my songs on Spotify and saved the presets
It’s a goofy Christmas song
So here ya go
Let me know what yall think lol
i'm not the best at mixing very low stuff but i guess what i got here is rather decent drums are the processed preset of odeholm drums and only the volumes are changed
i wish i could send the .wav but it's over 100MB lol
don't hesitate to tag me with your feedback to make sure i see it
HELL YEAH that's cool
Does anyone have any good recs for studio monitor stands? Preferably ones that have clamps on the bottom. I've got the presonus eris 3.5 monitors
what about on master track 😭
i got sooth 2
Thankies
Hey, need some suggestions on kontakt guitar libraries and amp plugins. Looking at making modern Metalcore mixed with hardcore, so definitely need something that tunes low while also having highs and pinch Harmonics
i don't know much about VST guitars but for the amps you can't go wrong with the archetype gojira tbh
Go for the free sforzando library METAL-GTX by Unreal Instruments. One of the best guitar libraries I've ever used
The shreddage 3 series is really good like shreddage 3 Jupiter, Hydra, and Argent
i used to rock heavier7strings and odin 3 for a bit before i got a guitar, and guitar rig as amp sim, i still use it for my guitar since i have no good mic to record amp
odin 3 has some spicy pinch harmonic samples
if you know where to look obv you dont have to spend a single penny

anyone got tips on getting vocal tracks out of a song for a cover version? Tried AI splitters, but they just shit the bed with screams or vocal effects, playing over the original either sounds off (may be my tone, but I cant see that working either way) or is so toned down that the vocals are barely audible, any advice would be appreciated
send me the song ill do it for ya
worth trying anyways

Is there any good set of monitoring speakers someone can recommend?
Prefer to be budget ones
like around €100
I’m a 15 year old producer, and I’m looking for good studio monitors for around $90
Any suggestions?
This is the workspace I have
got no recommendations per se, but maybe check reverb or some other side for second hand gear. Might get yourself a good deal for some decent gear from someone who´s upgrading. This shit aint cheap and if there´s money to be saved, why not at least have a look

I got music on Spotify that are mediocre or below average on both lmao
But it’s all fun and part of improving
sounds really raw and unmixed
That's because well it's un mixed and raw..

You know what I just realized. GGD always features an artist that best fits the OKW they are releasing (minus Architects cuz I mean...it says it on the tin)
Modern Fusion - Plini
Aggressive Rock - Caleb Shomo
Metal - Matt Heafy
Classic Rock - Jared James Nicols
Pop Punk - Neil Westfall
Dry and Funky - Mark Lettieri
Brutal - Issac Hale
Nu Metal - Mike Stringer

Something with the chugs at 0:38 is different compared to the original. But I can't exactly describe what it is.
The chugs in the original use real guitar di, my version is made with vst guitars only
