but if i set that to -18 dB its way too quiet
they all start at 0 dB
but if i put the fader up past 0 it doesnt sound any worse which im pretty sure means it isnt clipping
Yeah the gain knob itself shouldnt be -18 but the tracks when playing shouldnt exceed somewhere between -10 and -18 ideally
ohhh on that little output measuring bar thing
You see that on the bus fader when you play the track and than you dial your gain until
Exactly
together or soloed
cuz together they go above -6
but individually theyre not that loud
No the gain on the bus itself
So you play the entire bus track wolo without any plugins to see how much output its generating
and then adjust the gain so it doesnt go over -18
then i can do whatever with the faders right
but i started doing levels again ;-;
wait the folders dont have the knob
its just the tracks
Yeah it gives you more headroom to work with the faders and mixing fx
Thats a bit weird
i can use the js volume plugin which is apparently a gain plugin
but i need to put it in with the fx
I dont know the plugin. You can also try mixing without gain staging. Many bedroom mixers hardly do it, but the pro's definitely do
i dont really get how gain staging is different than mixing levels with the faders
like at long as i keep the overall output below the limiter it wont clip right
With gain, volume fader shouldnt make something clip. Gain causes clipping not volume itself
from what ive seen gain staging is more of a recording thing than a mixing thing
like making sure that the recordings dont clip as youre making them
but since these are in my daw already and they didnt clip to start with and apparently volume cant make things clip
i think i can just not worry about it
Nah its definitely used for mixing. For recording you just ensure nothing clips but you definitely want to control the gain hitting bus and master faders
For instance, upping a frequency in your EQ adds gain
Gain correction on a compression adds gain
So you see how this can all become an issue when its not controlled
alright my fx dont work
i can load them up and move the sliders, and the output display matches the audio, but the fx dont do anything and the audio sounds exactly the same
Did you put em on the bus or on the track?
Did you route the tracks to the bus?
it was straight onto a track
Strange
reaper does that automatically if you use folders
Alright

SPIRITBOX SIM
Let us know how it compares to Neural DSP stuff!
It's pretty much Mixwave's Archetype Nolly.
Minus the fact it has an SLO.
That being said, I do like the fact you can switch up blocks to go in any order affecting your signal chain. It's pretty cool.
Does anyone here use Audacity?
yes
Ok so I'm really keen to make music preferably (MELODEATH) so I need a bassist and a drummer I can do the vocals and guitar but I need U to be 100% commited and im 14 so if that puts people off I can understand um just message me on discord and yeah
do you have anything so far?
So I don't have a wawa pedal but yes I do have something on the guitar I just need to create some lyrics
With screaming and also I'm only 14 just incase that puts U off a bit but I'm fine with it
This is the acoustic version I do have one with drums wich my brother is on but his definitely not permanent
Actually sorry I also need two guitarists rythim right and left coz I'll be on vocals um ye also my vocals aren't that good I just need to warm up a bit
Also the middle part is just me muckin round
Also it does get a lil bit of beat but my brother's drumming isn't that good he's drumming is more like punk rock rock sought of music but ye
And that's not the full version
Hahaha it's an electric kit
I wish I played the full version for him so he could learn to play along with and make tha full track
Bruh...make a full song out of it.
lmao maybe
need more reverb
yellow
can someone help me with production?
i know absolutley nothing
so like some videos and like tips and tricks to getting good guitar tone and what not
Via monitor right?
What kind of Amp do you have?
i need help making a good deathcore/ slam tone in bias fx 2. Somehting similar to Infant Annihilator maybe idk also my guitar is an IVY ISFF9
is this sick? NDSP nameless and GGD invasion Eurobass with NDSP darkglass
opinions on how everything sits in the mix? any weird noises from freqs or anything? i think it sounds pretty decent overall.
pretty solid
sounds good to me, then again my word doesnt mean much
your missing all the gigh end on the guitars and cymbals
I'm relatively new to producing, which comes mainly as a side hobby thanks to playing guitar. So this mix lacks bass, drums and whatnot, partly because I lack the knowledge in music theory and partly because I'm too broke to buy proper vst's.
But what do you all think of this? Any tips or tricks on how to mix the guitar in this track, or in general?
you can use steven slate drums or modo drum to get a base drum part
Thanks! I'll check it out!
I have a good friend who plays the drums (and also is into metal), so if it ever gets to the point of it getting serious, he'll do the job. So I think I'm fine with just a base for drums
I’m looking to start makin music with my band mates any program suggestions for beginners or js in general?
Audacity if your starting out
Any DAW is fine. Real 'beginner' ones get real old real quick. Its better to just get something like Ableton, Logic, Cubase, Presonus Studio One and so forth
Im currently using Presonus Studio One and I think its intuitive enough that a 'beginner' could fine its way, but if you really start making music you gonna end up looking for tutorials anyway
Audacity is too limited for anything besides recording compared to those daws
how much is that?
how much is that?
Not sure
dj0nt
Dang...Periphery, Plini, Sithu Aye and AAL are average Bernth fans.
real
No because periphery > bernth
Also Periphery doesnt shred as much
So
seems like the guitars are not only thing you need to work on
as a drummer I think the drum parts are a bit too umm, lets just say robotic and to the grid as most drum parts are in this genre
but try to add parts which are rhythmically and dynamically more diverse instead of constant accentuation of midi notes
if you want to have more interesting drum parts
Okay, just got a new Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th gen I tried connecting it to my laptop and it gives me a BSOD and restarts. Any idea what may be causing this? Drivers issue? My laptop is an ASUS TUF F16 Gaming laptop with i5-11400H NVIDIA GeForce 3050 GPU and 8GB of DDR4 RAM
that is some rebellious hardware
boredom thall riff
guys do you have any metal drum plug-ins you can suggest me to try out?
EZDrummer if Superior scares you
Hey guys I am an upcoming musician and producer from Toronto Canada I focus primarily on metal and rock genre. I can share my latest release if you like to check it out and give some feedback is much appreciated 😁
Did you manage to fix this?
Yeah, all fixed up now....running Josh's tonality and i'm OBSESSED
cat metal

now that I listen back it is pretty feels are reals
😈 🤘🏻
do any of you guys use and like STLTones or Neural DSP
yes
Petrucci and Plini
first time recording high screams 😳
The Nolly Bass Library is available now ▸▸▸ https://ggd.news/NOLLY
✅ Kontakt Player Library (with full NKS integration) and can be used with Kontakt’s Free Player – no need to buy the full version of Kontakt to use GGD!
✅ Recorded and performed on Nolly's personal Dingwall NG6
✅ The exact bass tone heard on Periphery 5: Djent Is Not A Genre
✅ A...
I use Neural DSP.
is this real 💀
Yes
I’ve been waiting
Yippee
They’ve been teasing it on their IG for a few days now
You now have all the tools you need.
Archetype Nolly
GGD Drum P3, PIV, or PV
GGD Zilla
GGD Nolly Bass
You can now become Periphery.
only thing left is Mr. soleto
and which one is P3?
never heard of that one
That was the very first drum library they ever did. It was after P3 dropped and GGD first went public.
They need to make a voice bank of Spencer's voice.
spencer ai voice 😳
So you can also add a weakest link to your instrumental djent project.

Gear Used -
Guitar: Strandberg Richie Henshall 8 String
Amps: Archetype Gojira & Omega Granophyr...
Was working on this track for a while, i basically tried to take all the genres that i like and put them in one song. Hope u like it!
It’s an original song made, mixed, and mastered by me
Main Gear i use:
For the guitar tones i use Neural DSP fortin nameless (and Archetype Petrucci for pitch shifter and IR loader only ), IR's from Odeholm Au...
Thall.
i need help guys, if you midi your bass, do you use some pitch tools for bends and stuff? or do you leave the midi notes as they are?
if you synch your bass with the guitars ofc
You dont really bend on bass anyway, so that wouldnt be necessary.
so you just leave the midi as it is, even if it's a bit dissonant then
No, because a bend on a guitar is a certain note, so for instance if you bend on the G on the B string towards an A you play that A note.
if you have a long bend, do you split the bass midi not up into several notes, like if you bend up one half step do you put another midi note right there up one half step or leave it
You can also use slides on the bass when its a 'slow' long bend
I sometimes do that yeah!
No worries.
Stupid question but
How do you make a song like Darko US
I’ve been trying to make a song that sounds like totally-not-a-carbon-copy of Darko US
Smoke a ton of pot, write with an 8 string flipped from your normal style and you might come close
Seriously though, the reason why Darko works is because BabyJ and Tom push the boundaries and constraints of what normal music is
https://soundcloud.com/smiling4dal0rd/bleed-out?si=7a601b71e3514c2fa2fcad21a3134a3d&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
Made this. Still experimenting guitars with trap melodies
I love making all types of rock and metal music, and all other types of music. I also love making hip hop and lofi beats too,
Plug-ins, plug-ins and more plug-ins. Darko is very production focused and encompasses a lot from other genres so it would be useful to look into what their influences are.
Aside from that, some DAW's are better than others for this kind of work. Ableton and Logic will be your best bet for virtual instruments; Cubase is good as well and Pro Tools is just a different beast altogether.
Me who’s really used to FL Studio:
FL Studio is also very good!
ah nice
all i need is a guitar thats tuned really low
preferably a midi guitar cause i dont have the money for a real 9 string guitar
Get that drop tune pedal
Hey guys! I’m Ben, new to the server 😂 I’m looking to get better live sound equipment. I have the Behringer XAir 16, and I lowkey hate it because I can’t stand using a tablet for sound stuff 😂 I want something a little more analog, ya feel? (And affordable, Walmart doesn’t pay as well as I’d like) 😂 any suggestions?
Whats your budget?
And why the move to analog? If you play live with IEM, digital is generally a good way to go
I don’t wanna go straight analog, I want something more analog than an iPad 😂 I hate using it. I gave it a solid shot for 6 months, I really did, but I can’t stand it 😂

Anyone here used an orange super crush 100 before?
I've been looking up reviews, but haven't found anything that goes beyond clean / mild crunch tones.
Neural's Black Friday sale is up.
Noice
i was wondering how good is the sennheiser HD650 for music production like mixing for example
currently i have the AKG K240 Studio
and the main issue i have with the AKG is at some point it start to get a bit uncomfortable and the ear cushion hardened over time and made it even worse i know they can be replaced tho
Quite good but quite noisey, even for open back. Not a big issue if you work alone in a closed room or anything like that though
Its definitely a good headphone. Quite neutral but open sound
I dont know how it compares to the k240 tho
i've heard that the k240 has less low end than the HD 650 which can be a plus for me since my mixes tend to be slightly bass heavy sometimes
to compensate the lack of bass i have in my headphones
Yeah for mixing Id would be careful with headphones that accentuate the bass
Especially since most 'regular' listening headphones already tend to do that.
yea my earphones has that "bass boosted" thing
I use Beyerdynamic DT770 closed back headphones. Very good ones too. They also have a 990nopen back which might be worth checking out
Since the 770 have been the best headphones for 'studio' purposes Ive had but for mixing the open back would be even better
the overall mix sounds distant to me idk what causes that but yea
and for the cymbals it sounds like there is only the room left
also this is something i just mastered and tbh some stuff could be better if my PC wasn't just dying when mixing it so some of the mix might need some more tweaking when i upgrade my PC but i still wanted to hear how it sounded mastered
Djinnbass 2 releasing soon 😶🌫️🤯
sheesh
well i use umansky bass currently but if the djinnbass 2 has the true bass technology which should have since all of their bass plugins has it and depending on the articulations it has i might buy it since they might also do an offer of the ones who already have djinnbass
perhaps needs some more mids idk
thanks for the comment though
still missing vox. preferably deathcore -ish style.
still missing vox. preferably deathcore -ish style.
cube chocochip
random thing that i rushed through
It aint much, but it’s honest work
Are those HS5s for the speakers?
Yeah
Looking good!
I'm currently working on my home studio
How you like them? I have a set of presonus Eris 3.5s and I’m looking to upgrade at some point
Ive had them for a few years. I love them! Great overall sound. Not too high and not too low. I recommend them.
Definitely! Also see if you can get the speaker stands as well if you have the room for them. Keep me updated about your set up!
Is it common practice to use a limiter on the drum bus?
Maybe
I have a question for modern metalcore direction sound. What is the key to that sound? When im talking modern metalcore, im talking about Beartooth, Hollow Front, bad omens. What is the key to that tone?
Is it or not?
Some use compressor so i think so

the original one was a archetype gojira playthrough './.,./'
Listen to Meshuggah - Demiurge (cover) 2021 by ESKAPE #np on #SoundCloud
released a demiurge cover i recorded in 2021 cause why not
Sorry for the shit audio but essentially I struggle with getting a tight tone
I use the Scarlett audio interface and for the tone I use archetype gojira
I’ve set up my guitar with a pro and everything however if I reduce my gain and increase the noise gate the notes have no sustain at all
If I increase the gain then the external noise affects my recording
I’ve tried all configurations and stuff but I never seem to hit the sweet spot (which is a low djenty tone that doesn’t sound muddy)
same thing with lead tones
the sustain comes with a lot of unneccesary noise
'Djent tones' are quite bright too be honest. Did you try to cut the low frequencies around 65hz-80hz at least
Through archetype gojira?
I’ve tried to reduce the low knob
Yes the EQ section
Ok will try that thanks
what would u reckon i do here
Also lower the 125 hz, somewhere between 0,5 and 1.2, slightly bump 250 and 8khz
Thats a nice starting point
Alright thanks will do that
I'm trying to make a dark classical themed song i think this is pretty good, this is the second song I made so it's still very rough I would really appreciate some feedback
I really like that, the Intro reminded me a lot of Gymnopédie No.1
Just really focusing on getting those harmonics to really ring out and be clear is hard but once done sounds so good. Focus a lot on what cords you are playing and then you can always extend them with a harmony playing a bass note and a little arpeggio or run of the cord or suspending a few cords.
I'm intrigued to see where this goes.
Thx means a lot, I'm going to leave this as an intro and I'll go with a more ichika nito style for the rest of the song
Interesting
My fingers hurt from tapping tho
You playing on a classical or acoustic or electric?
I play on a classical
Thought so... cool.
Want to talk tapping, I've spent the last few months trying to learn this.
Brandon Acker plays Carillon by the 20th century 🇮🇹 Italian guitarist Benvenuto Terzi. In this challenging piece, the right hand only plays harmonics and the left hand only plays slurs. The musical equivalent of rubbing your stomach while tapping your head. It's meant to imitate carillon bells and it is one of the hardest pieces I've ever play...
This is the current version
That's unbelievable tbh
How is it even possible
Good luck
I've gotten the right hand fully done the rest I'm working on very hard.
Those slurs hurt my brain sometimes....
They sound a bit to snappy unless that's what you are going for then keep it, if not could just be a bit if a technique thing though the composition sounds good.
Just takes practice and lots of recordings when recording with bands we would record our parts maybe 5-7 times trying to perfect everything just doing one recording and saying good enough is usually not great
I'm not on a band rn so I never had that problem
I'm just saying when it comes to you recording this take your time record multiple times and pick which one is best.
Yup
I'll have to record this anyway
Ahhh
It's gonna be a pain
I'll have to teach my friend who barely plays guitar to play the second guitar on this song
You could record both parts yourself?
Unless you plan on playing live.
Thx
My first inspiration for this song was testamento de amelia and the Beat Tim henson did with noTrust
Kinda late to say it but whatever
I think Nik uses Cubase. Its good. Especially for drum programming, but I prefer Studio One 6. Better workflow and more intuitive imo
Its a bit similar to Logic but for Windows
Why is making a Ichika/tim type riff so hard gad damn
I can't seem to find a good chord progression
I'll try another method
I-III-VI-V in Harmonic minor and you have 70% of Polyphia's used chord progressions
Otherwise your basic I-VI-V. Its the embellishments, not the chords nor progressions that make their sound. They use very basic stuff, run it through an arpeggiator and learn it on guitar
^
Does reaper have arpeggiators?
There's an online chord generator but arpeggiater
Hmmm
Never heard of it
Tim used omnisphere tho
Saw it on a video
I dont know, but I know theres arpeggiator VST's. They basically break up the chords you feed them and you can tweak how it arpeggiates.
Once you find something that you like while working your way through a basic chord progression, you learn the arpeggiated sequence on your guitar...and bam...your Polyphia song is done.
how are y'all gonna arpeggiate a guitar solo
Depends on the solo, normally you dont, but theres plenty examples of guitar leads that consist out of arpeggiated sequences, but it seems you are (wrongly) implying that Polyphia either consists solely out of guitar solos or that its not the way Polyphia songs are written
The latter is hardly a secret because Tim Henson himself has showed his approach
yup, sometimes he layers synths that play the exact same notes on the guitar, its pretty cool
Using this app on my tablet called Bandlab, not too difficult to use, I suppose
By Christ I got things done faster in dreams though lmao
Also I really need to take some production classes or something because idk anything about guitar tones or how to properly mix
i mean you're faster on dreams because you're used to it
if you put me on dream i'll take ages to make something good
and as far as guitar tones ppl can help here
Get the accompanying resources here:

In this video I walk you through everything you need to know about EQ, I'm not leaving any stone unturned.
We're covering how to EQ any instrument, stock vs. premium EQ plugins, frequency masking, how to nail the low-end...
I mean here's some stuff on how to EQ
Thank you! 🤩
Have fun!
It seems like Bandlab is good for beginners but only as that, might have to invest in FL studio or something
I have been using FL for the longest just got into reaper going to start Reason soon as well.
Nice, heard of the latter two
Reaper is really good it's simple but has everything FL I never liked for metal mixing though they have a new metal preset I'm yet to try.
Logic is most used here anyways... like 99% of the classes for audio recording and technology is using Logic even in high-school.
Stupid snare
testing my production skills
when you apply vocal compression 10x on the master
very industrial acidic vibes
oh i just posted it in #1095986343848448020 and click here and see it was there for an half hour already
I use the same app
Dang
peavey, evh model or another 5150 clone perhaps
I wanna say maybe. But the last few ones have been anything but 5150s. Besides we already have a Peavey 5150 with Nolly and an EVH 5153 with Gojira.
I'm thinking it's probably the long awaited Devin Townsend plugin.
im just asking for archetype bustercore
@ruby jay So much for your Peavey theory. It's an Archetype.
Kinda odd they would release another Archetype after releasing Asato and updating Plini to Plini X.
Ichika > any other high gain tones at this point. They have already plenty to play your thall with
A Steve Vai archetype would also be great but Devin is nice as well of thats the case
Also dont need another 5150 clone
You can easily get Ichika with Tim Henson though.
Devin would be nice because he would have a Rectifier in his plugin which I've been DESPERATE for.
Growing up playing Rectifiers (although sadly I have no room for one anymore which is why I use amp sims), has made me want a good Rectifier plugin which is extremely hard to find.
Yes but still better than another high gain modern metal amp. Theres already a lot of it in neural dsps line up. I do agree however that a rectifier style amp would be nice. I didnt know Devin uses a dual rectifier
Thought he mainly used an axe fx unit
He does. However, after his time in Strapping Young Lad where he used mainly a 5150, Devin used mainly Rectifiers for the most part, sometimes bringing back out his 5150 just for a blend. Even after he started using Axe-Fx, there was a period in time where the Axe-Fx was used mainly as his FX processor and used the Rectifier for his main tone, similar to John Petrucci uses his Axe-Fx with his JP2C. But Devin fully switched after the III came out.
walmart spiritbox type beat, the robot overlords might come after me
what is project 66
That first pedal could be a mooer oceanmachine so maybe it is Devins archetype
yes, incredible musician that guy
Saw him live was an experience

hey, i absolutely loved this, so i put my vocals over it. my production skills are shit, but this was a lot of fun and i wanna share this
omg, this is crazy, I love it
tysm
Thank you so much! I appreciate that so much!
That’s what I’m saying
wait is that with submission audio?
yes
nocturnal bass = punkbass 2
What doth thou mean?
Also
Neural will be releasing Gojira X as a free update for Archetype: Gojira users this month on the 10th.
lmao i just got the gojira last month
well i got it for free since it was my prize on the nocturnal awards ndsp plugin giveaway
so now i'll have both of the X version plugin they have
Anybody have any tips for getting a job in audio engineering? I've been working at my church for 7 months and have worked in my studio at home for about 1.5 years.
At most studios they demand an education, but you can see if theres any local clubs where bands play, ask if you can tag along in the form of some 'apprenticeship' or something
Ah thanks
Apparently cut off the low mids
Using a graphic eq
Or paramatic eq in fl
For those of you who use Archetype: Gojira, the X version is now available. For those of you who don't and want a cool 5150III sim (or wanna just get disgusting tones) it's on sale.
i did a big brain unintentionally lmao
since i won nik's neural dsp giveaway i chose the gojira and now it has the X version
2 plugins for free
novelists just released their own guitar plugin
They have one?
Also ever since I got Soldano, I haven't touch Gojira once. It has a stupid amount of high end for my liking. Even with the right IRs. I thought Gojira X would change that. It didn't that much. But I'm still experimenting.
The Soldano is a workhorse for a reason. I love the Soldano and the two Fortin plugins. Getting the Plini X tomorrow to see what I can get out of it.
Plini was my first Neural plugin. So I'm glad Plini X came out. You'll get a lot out of it.
Btw I forgot to ask last night what Fortin plugins do you use? I don't use the Fortin plugins, I use the Mark IIC+ (massive Mesa fan).
I don't own any of them outright....yet, but I've enjoyed the nameless and the growl behind the NTS
Fun fact: The NTS your using in the Neural plugin is actually Ola Englund's personal one.
He actually said so in a video a little after the NTS plugin was released.
Yeah, I saw that video, part of the reason I got the free trial
Ohhhh niceee.
Which one do you like between the two of them?
Depends on the sound I'm going for, I tend to sway more towards the NTS.
The nameless was my first trip into plugins though
Fair. My first trip was Plini then Nolly, then Gojira. Sold Nolly for the SLO, then bought Rabea and the Mesa Mark. Now I might sell Gojira for the Morgan suite. I like my clean tones :3
I've been slowly moving away from the Archetypes for a number of reasons. I sold Nolly cuz I thought it was a bit too sterile (maybe I'll give it another chance when Nolly X comes out and ask for a trial) and now Gojira with that high end.
I literally playing around with the Morgan Suite rn.
The cleans are top notch
It's a nice plugin to take a break from metal with
I play metal a lot and I always love messing with cleans in my songs.
Nice, same here. I might grab it if I use it often enough during the trial period
I'm gonna wait for their birthday sale. It usually happens sometimes in the early months of the year.
Is it worth it? Like should I buy?
Is it good if I don’t listen to gojira?
Depends. What exactly are you looking for?
Basically, heavy guitar. Make guitar sound stinky and heavy.
I’m a big fan of knocked loose and wanna make music like them
So maybe that
Also slaughter to prevail is a big influence
So basically heavy 5153 vibes (most modern bands use the EVH 5153). Your in luck Gojira X is perfect for you.
The amps:
Amp 1 - Fender Twin
Amp 2 - EVH 5153 EL34 Blue Channel
Amp 3 - EVH 5153 EL34 Red Channel
Most bands use the 6L6 Stealth version of the 5153, but on the red channel both the 6L6 and EL34 versions are nearly identical so it's good.
Just be aware Gojira has a bit of a funky OD pedal and doesn't behave like a normal tube screamer, but it works just as well.
So basically it’s every modern metal band Evers amp?
Yeah pretty much. Most modern metal bands use the 5153 in some iteration. Kinda like back in the 90s and 2000s most of those bands used a Mesa Rectifier.
Yo thanks for the advice! I got the free trial and realized that like, guitar doesn’t actually suck, just bias FX sucks.
No problem my guy! Happy to help! A lot of people don't like Bias it's not just you.

AI mastering? How tf?
You using FL Studio or something?
welcome to the future. its not perfect, but its better than what i can do manually

So, first single released
My very first single! It's about my frustrations with being lazy and not getting things done, hence the name "Sloth", being one of the 7 deadly sins.
I hope to improve from here on out 🤟
Anybody know what mics these are?
heck yeah dude, love the vocals, one thing i might would say is turn down the kick/808s
Yeah, I can hear it now 😂
Thank you for the feedback, I’ll continue to improve with every song!
of course man, keep it up!
How long you been producing and working sound?
I’m just starting, been working on my craft the past couple years before having the courage to release something
But I still have improvement to grow. Also been trying to work the courage to ask some rappers in different servers if they want to rap on my beats or not
Heck yeah man, I'm always down to collab, I'm mainly a guitarist and screaming vocalist, not great at singing, but in terms of harsh vocals, ive got a pretty decent sound. but yeah hmu if youre down to collab
Nvm, I found it: Manley Reference Cardioid
This not per say metal related, but I was wondering whether it's possible to use a DJ controller as an audio interface or have mic input that's plugged to it come out from my studio monitors? My current audio setup is quite basic since only thing I have between my speakers and PC is a synthesizer with a mic input along a line connectionz but it's either or but I want to have both mic and audio from my PC going to the speakers for practicing reasons. The controller I have is Pioneer DDJ RB which is a Rekordbox controller and it has ASIO mode as well given the Pioneer drivers, and the synthesizer I have is the Korg Kaossilator Pro which I mostly use as an effect box/audio control
First time producing in a long ass time so lets hope this reaches the right audience haha
ive never produced anything like this before the closest ive got is doing breakcore (ignore the file name) id love some feedback on my mixing (its also still super unfinished)
first of all, it sounds sick, 2nd of all, love the stereo seperation at the beginning thought it sounded pretty huge, 3rd of all, im not really familiar with breakcore, but I would try beefing up the guitars by adding a bit more bass guitar. Don't take anything I say as gospel truth, ive only been doing studio mixing for like 1.5 years, but i think the mix sounded good, i might've added a bit more low end/sub to the kick drum
thanks! i didn’t actually record a bass track i just used an 808 bass but i get what you mean about the guitars, i just don’t really know how i’d go about actually beefing it up since i’m pretty bad at compressing stuff but that’s for the advice (:
You shouldn't need to really compress the electric guitar, as distorted tones are naturally quite compressed. I'd just say for a cheap good distorted bass sound, I'd use a midi bass vst and then run it through TSE BOD, its a great plugin. I'm totally down to talk metal guitar production 1 on 1 if you want
i’d be up to talk some more later since it’s pretty late for me but i really appreciate the offer, i was considering using just a simple midi bass plugin and putting a fuzz distortion over it but it didn’t really sound good, i might try mixing 808s in with midi bass so it sounds clearer while stuff having a really deep and harsh sound
that'd be pretty sick, I've used the hard lead setting at like C1 on Analog Lab as a Midi Bass and it sounded sick. If you have Analog Lab, I'd try that
i don’t have analog lab but i’m pretty sure i’d get away with using a bad sounding one i just wanna get that stringy sound from it anyway since the actual distortion and bass would come from the 808
ah ok, well overall I thought it was great mix, great work man!
I got a Glorious desk a few months ago, but theres a few flaws, the monitor trays move around with just the tension of the cables so i had to put paper wedges under, the keyboard tray moves around whenever you do anything, I tried using my keyboard and mouse on the tray but I cant move my mouse because the tray moves with it. Anyways In 6-24 months, probably around 8-10 Im getting a big space for just a studio, would Investing in a good desk be worth it. theres many other things i need, panels, amps, upgrade my DAW, ect but would it be worth it. Looking at a desk by AZ workstation, or when the studios built getting a custom desk. Their both pretty pricey but would it be worth it?
K idk if this is related producing issue, but I’m using a headrush effects box and having trouble tryna eq my guitar, and I’m also having a helluva time tryna find an ir for modern metal

Can someone tell a free software to do music?☺️ pretty simple one
cockos reaper is nice, fairly simple software to learn
it is not exactly free tho, it has a free trial period
Reaper by Cockos.
And if you need a free amp sim. Look at Amped Roots from ML Sound Lab.

I've been after this drum sound for a really long time.
Still haven't managed to get it lol.
That's what happens when the drum room is blended tastefully
Not so much the drum room itself, more so the tone itself.
It's got a snap to it, but high tuned tonage that's not so high.
It's like a perfect middle ground.
The snare is just so crisp dude.
I have a question it relates to the video Nick did on how to linkin park in 30 seconds or less and I was curious what software he used for the synth keyboard and the name of the daw he was using I’m new to this area and I’m curious
idk what he used for the synths but I know that Nik uses Cubase as his primary DAW for most of his work
a chord progression every metalcore band has at some point in their discography
nolly bass carrying the low end
i'm pretty sure nik uses serum for the synths
every time on stream when he wants to make a synth sound it's always serum

Does anyone here happen to share HELIX patches? Just got this beauty.
i used it for somewehere around a year, and its the most intuitive and feature packed free daw ive used
yoooo looks sick, lemme see if i can find my old hx stomp patches
Can't seem to find those old patches (i sold the hx stomp a few months ago for an AXE FX II) but if i remember correctly, the badonk and the pv were my favorite heavy amps, the placaters were my fav crunch-esque, and i ran all my patches either through the brohymn mesa 4x12 IR (best free IR) or my ownhammer IR's.
Yep. I know nothing about music production and I can already make a simple beat (not exactly a good one but it's a beat lol)

anybody have any clean bass presets for Axe FX II, Im having no luck, its works so well for guitar, surely theres a good bass sound somewhere in there
I usually use Parallax for my bass tones, but i need something clean

Hey, I'm looking to buy a mic to record cello. I'd prefer a USB mic and my budget is about 200€ .I know it's not much but I'm a beginner when it comes to recording and don't want to spend too much (might replace it later). Does anybody have any recommendations?
Honestly, if I were you, I'd get a cheap used focusrite scarlett either 2i2 or solo, and an sm57, that's a lot more versatile of a setup imo, but I've also never worked with USB mics
You can get a used focusrite and used sm57 for around 130

question for fl users, would it be better/easier to chain these to one channel with bias fx2 or is it better to use it for each individual one? i've been doing it this way since i started but zero clue on what's better/easier
tbh i use cubase but i have a slight knowledge about FL and what you're asking to do is what i do myself on cubase where the left and right tracks are pretty much DI and then send to a group with the actual effects on
but i use neural DSP plugins that has a stereo mode so you can have left and right on the same group so the 2 audios are not merged together kinda and idk if bias fx 2 has that feature
I also use Cubase, but I think it'd be better to have 2 separate instances of the plugin and then route them to a subgroup where you can then do whatever post processing you want. Especially because youre gonna wanna have 2 separate guitar recordings and not just "copy pasta'd" of one track
well by using 2 instances of the plugin i had like massive clipping issues and had to use a compressor to get rid of that or lower the guitars volume to like -30dB which is way too much and it also having 1 instance on a group track saves a lot of CPU charge

i have a small issue on my audio interface steinberg UR22mkII
i have output sound but not input
though it still lights up the LED on the interface itself when it's peaking
but on the plugins, OBS or anything else there is no input sound
and i have no idea how to fix it
and inputs work properly when i turn on the input/DAW mixer knob to 100% input and 0% DAW because i hear what i have in the inputs
but not in any software on my PC for some reason
ok so apparently i works in cubase but not with the standalone plugins nor with OBS idk why
so i re installed the ASIO and now it works ok lmao
Is there a good music production software thats free and better than garageband on mac and has better amps?
there's reaper but it's only a DAW you won't have like amp sims in it tho
reapers only free for 60 days, if you want a truly free daw, try traktion waveform
nah its a winrar trial
its free for 60 days and afterwards its "free"
as in you dont pay but you just get a popup every time you start reaper until you buy it
ope, my bad
Really thall, has a bit of a Killswitch engage sound to the tone of the guitar
Some riffs I’m working on for different amps combos. Which sounds the best? Any suggestions or other opinions on this?
gridded knocking
knocked loose motherfucker
with guitars and sound fx
now do vocals
knocked them loose 1st then
got some isolated vocals because AI shenanigans

you certainly can ruin it more, just add 15 metalzone pedals and 5 clippers and a bitcrusher on the master channel
I dont have any metalzone vsts unfortunately
MT-A by mercuriall is a nice free metalzone plugin
complete cover with that "knocked loose mf" callout

Lemme try that
so im kinda new to production, and im experimenting around with things. i just bought a few drum sets, and they all come as audio files, and not applications. how do i use this?
basically what you got is called "one shots"
it's not a VST or anything but it's audio files of the said part of the kit in the files you have there
you basically just drag them in your project and place them on the timeline

you kinda just import them into your DAW, since these are samples
you can put these in like a drumpad thingymajiggy or use the mas one shots
So how do I put them from audio files to my midi keyboard?
I’m getting a midi keyboard in like 2 days lol. I have no idea what I’m doing
my focusrite scarlet isn't working what can I do to get it working?
Okay ima be real idk
What effect takes a eq band (high or low) and fades it's strength in or out
Kinda like what born of Osiris will do with guitar tracks
I Wana add a high band eq effect on a part but I want the EQ to disapate throughout the clip so it sorta fades back to normal
You do it with automation
In your DAW
Just like a volume fader but than applied to the EQ effect
Automation isnt dependant on a plugin
Most DAWs have the ability to automate the EQ being turned on/off
Which seems to be what you wanna do
Yeah but with a fade in/out
I use reaper btw
I'm also kinda new to it
So idk how to
Is there any resources or tutorials you could point me to
What's the price of Studio one
I want to get the full licence but I Wana use the 60 day time to see if it's worth or not
Depends on what version
The cheapest (artist one) is about 100 dollar I believe
Oh
The one I use was 350
I honestly might just stick with reaper Bec I've already learned it and it's cheaper
Alright.
I wasnt a fan, since I dont wanna 'program' my DAW itself. Reaper seems to be very useful for people who want to have a fully customized DAW
Which is great, if you want that and Reaper is basically the only DAW offering this

I think the tone is pretty simple, its a fender style clean amps and 5150 crunch and overdriven tones, the distorted tones shine because of the balanced bass tone, which probably is like an ampeg style bass amp. A lot is going on in that song, a bunch of genres mixed together, the guitars tones constantly change so I can understand the frustration a little bit especially when it comes to performing that song
the termina bros pop up when I look up that song
very cool, I like
Hey folks, I’m using reaper and a scarlet 2i2 to record using archetype gojira and it’s quite laggy and throwing me off. Anybody know how to help?
How do I make this default midi 'djent guitar' sound actually sound okay and not terrible? Idk anything about guitars
I'm hoping the stuff in the video makes more sense to you all than it does to me, it's currently set on the "90's" metal tone but I've been messing around adding effects and stuff 😳
Anyone use cubase? Should I get this for my tablet? (Android not iOS)
i use cubase but never used the mobile version
and i didn't even know there was one lmao
Is Cubase good? 🧐
on PC yes it's what nik uses but i have no idea for the mobile version tho
@red copper
I’ll show you the song with the techno beat now
w
Bass drop or whatever
be prepared for mine to suck
theres a couple of really decent riffs in it but other than that its rough
Probably not cause I fuck my kicks up so bad sometimes
Oh it’s melodic metalcore type riffs or smth
Least I’d say melodic type riffs
i programmed mine and i dont think i made it human 💀
Idk why I get big bfmv energy
🤷♂️
Okay the metal pipe got me😭
💀
i rlly dont know why i did it but it was funny 💀
that project is 10 months old
i am slightly better than that now
also im getting doom vibes from yours
i like the synth tone
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT MY LIKE BASS PARTS OM TEH SOMG HAVE LIKE HIGH PITCHED PARTS I DIDNT MEAN TO ADD
Thanks it took like 10 hours
Tbh I forgot Alr I finished it like at 3 am I’ll have to check the program rn
dw about it if it's a hassle
But that song was the happiest I’ve felt when I finished the doom part as you called it
I could see it too
That progression was so evil
Like I was smiling like a maniac the whole time making it
i could see why lol
Damn that beat in the back of it actually hits hard what😭
fr!
Let me try and get an isolated part on it
im tryna find an example of my newer stuff
this idea is pretty cool
not my best but not bad for a demo riff
and the last part i only recorded on the left channel apparently so 💀
Okay here’s the background beat isolated
yeah thats pretty sweet
Well not so far I just finished it
thats real
Ik I used reversed cymbals tho
i should use them at some point
It only takes a lot of boredom to create something real sick
Yea go ahead Itd be sick
i just gotta figure out a place for it
Well good luck finding that out ima try and make a new song with this is kinda giving that vibe
The entire time
gl bro
Harmonic minor will save me🙏
im renaming all my old projects that i left unnamed 💀
😭
100% fully agreed
boredom clears my mind to be open to new interesting ideas
the weird bip at the begining freaks me out everytime lol
the bip is the benninging
Can someone help me make this midi guitar sound not so ear bleedingly awful
Do I need to turn down gain or something idk guitars 🫣
Oh, sorry Dusty 😭
you can add like an high cut eq to deharsh the guitar a little
yea most likely a high cut and if it's still too harsh and if it's lower than the high cut you've made maybe just lowering the harsh region as well with a bell form
A bell form? 😳
Bandlab doesnt have a parametric graphic eq to do that
the graphic eq in bandlab resembles the EQ module in neural dsp plugins
this one
yea so the 9 band one
which one is the second type, the knobs on the amp?
because there is this one as well
that is probably a neural petrucci exclusive feature
well i have 3 NDSP plugins so idk if there is more with that one
i mean 4 but the 4th one is the parallax which is it's own thing
Finally got my hands on Vital
rings of jason richardson
It's not. Rabea's plugin has this style of EQ as well. Bea stated he wanted it because of the Petrucci plugin.
For all I know bandlab just has bad samples for guitar parts
Like the midi guitars just sound bad
Or just very midi
What midi drums do you guys recommend for nu metal and low stuff? I've been working on my first actual metal song and the midi drums I have sound like absolute ass
Ez drummer ofc
Reliable
For everything
Aight thank you, btw can I also change the pitch of the drums on that vst?
Oh yea you can
If you need help theirs probably a lot of tutorials out there
Yw man hope this track goes well
this is the corrent state of the song
no riffs now, I'm just focusing on the ambience
Cool
Idea for a new type of music, Death-Hop
808 blast beats
And distorted synths, along with growls
If anyone want to use this please do
I'm going for a vildharja vibe
I have no idea how I'll make the riffs but I'll make it work
Doesn't THROWN already do that?
I mean they don't use growls but it's pretty similar to what you described
That would be so wonky tho
testing zero-g
no guitars or bass
They came out with Fortin Nameless X
They finally updated Fortin Nameless.
i tried it and tbh it's very good
i'm usually playing with the gojira but the nameless just sounds better for low tuned 7 string than the gojira
but the gojira sounds better on 6 strings stuff tho
at least with the tones i've tested
I have constant buzzing with the gojira does anyone know how to fix it
Noise supression and a gate
On that note, is quad tracking good at all?
its a preference, if you like the sound of quad tracking guitars go for it, but tracking it twice does the job for most cases
i usually double track the only time i quad track is when i have something that's already with a pretty high energy the quad track makes it even more but i rarely uses it for what i do

Does anyone know a fix for this by chance?
it is probably a codec issue, maybe try converting the audio into an mp3 using an online converter
maybe a bitrate thing too but it's less likely tbh
i mean not bitrate but sample rate mb

I see why ppl hate Kontakt now.
why do people hate komtankt
Because it very difficult to route things with and has a very clunky interface and is a pain in the ass to work with. Its also a resource hog. That said when it DOES work it sounds great.
agree about the clunky interface and it being an absolute resource hog, every instrument in this track is running in kontakt, so you can decide if this sounds good or not
It does, it sounds great. I use Kontakt drums (GGD) for my drum library. But using it for more than that is a past in my ass.
hey guys does anyoen have the backing track for shred collab 6? not on jared dines' dropbox anymore

Yall
My buddy Mike had this video of him doing nasty growl from like 2 yrs ago, and i said, lets sample that, and this is what happened
Absolutely gross
Used NeuralDSP Fortin Nameless X for guitar and bass tone, then blended in sub/DI for the bass
I guess submission audio is gonna make a drum library as well
its pretty nice for sludgy grindcore, thall/djent tones
with very nice in built IRs to try out
experimenting with a messier production to get a more self recorded feel
i deel the drums are a bit too high quality but the songs are good enough to be shown
yeah, the drums are a little to hq
but I think it's fixable with a weird EQ or a filter + room reverb
@green wharf
Nice
np. I do think the guitars would benefit from some more treble to clear up the mix ever so slightly
they're a wee muddy, but that might be what you're going for
Yeah thats right
Its a bit borderline on noise rock tby
For the tone itaelf at least
Fair, then it's just a personal thing for me regarding the tone

This is the song where i got the ideas from
Hopefully this sould give a better view on what in going for
*if you'd like to listen and give thot on this
*
I'll check it.
I think ill leave the drums as is because i use the same project for all osngs (one song is effectively deleted jut by mskung anither one)
thats a bad idea, spot
I gota save space TwT
finally learnt how to do the pitch bends in cubase
kshmr samples work really nice with metal
finished it
This is pretty awesome tbh
mastered this track using submission audio flatline
Haven’t listened, but how helpful is that flatline vst? Better or worse than JST Maximizer?
im having issues with reaper and have no idea how to fix them
AAAAAAAAA
I'm starting go down the rabbit hole of drum plugins.
Because I'm fallin' out of love with the GGD stuff.
Idk, only used flatline
It's helpful
Adds some punchiness to the track
I’ll check it out
my fav is perfect drums
punchy
changing things up is nice sometimes, I also switch between ezdrummer and ggd products or krimh drums depending on what idea comes to mind
I tried Krimh Drums free and I liked it.
And I have EZD but no expansions.
the default ezdrummer 3 bright room drums sound metal af, the only expansion that is worth buying imo is the death metal one which sounds decent
it looks sick tho
Too bad I only have EDZ2
Lololol
you didnt upgrade?
Was broke at the time. It's 99 to upgrade anyways.
well, i use perfect drums, it's punchy enough for me
made another track while being sleepy asf
any opinions?
i hate when asio4all mutes all other apps :Р
what kind of drums does Nik Nocturnal use?
I thought matt from ashtone audio only mixed his stuff
although sample replacement is still part of replacement mixing
i fully routed ggd into ableton and from some reason i only get signal when i put one of the channels into the master channel in the output section in kontakt
i made sure everything is set up
anyone knows why?
You mean you only get sound outbof one channel?
Did you set the drums to the channels you wanted?
i showed everything here
Did you save and restart your session afterwords?
Hmm....I dont quite then. Everything looks like it's in the right place.
Or at least Krimh drums.
yeah they sound so good
I'm having fun with Krimh.
that snare is personal
Id love to try Mixwave stuff though
i wanna try the luke holland one
Aaron Gillespie for me.
yeah also fire
What DAW are u using.
ableton
Routing your GGD Invasion drums in Ableton Live. Full Walkthrough.

Try this one
yeah ive seen this vid 6 times already
Oof.
its just an output thing
prob
in kontakt
that im trying to get my 2 braincells to work
lmao
Wish I could help moar bro
i have like a whole drum mix ready just trying to figure out this part
i will eventually
the kontakt logo is still the old one
did you try making audio channels for each of these faders in your DAW
with the same exact name and route them in the same channel output as they are in kontakt
maybe expand these channels and check if they are routed as a send or a receive from kontakt
The MIDI data should be sent to Kontakt vst and the audio channels in your DAW should receive audio from kontakt in the respective channels that you set up inside it
extremely quick mixdown before work
yo anyone know if the the GGD cabs use alot of cpu?
vildhjarta goes brrrr
tried my best on the mix and master but it's so low i had a hard time trying to make sure everything sound good
Hey does anyone know what that “impact” sound is Lorna Shore uses before big smashes? I want to replicate something like it https://open.spotify.com/track/7fQFx37hCurb938qvnBa8W?si=afalJ-gCQly79fxBk9uIPg example 2:20
I think it’s just Austin’s drumming dude
the beginning is very punk and then it turns into 2000s metalcore lol
Fuckery
I'm working on getting the "Knocked Loose" ping on the snare.
If I'm not mistaken. JS gave away all of his impacts and drop samples in his nailthemix course.
Thanks mate found it 👍
Does anyone know what Nik uses to make his songs?
My nu metal mixtape
like DAW?
Yeah
cubase
Alr thanks
i recommend ableton but u can try
I’ll keep that in mind
As a cubase user, once you figure it out, it's great, but it's the only daw I've used besides waveform
is this mix any good? I'm open to hear your thoughts
i've used FL studio before and tried ableton and tbh FL studio don't feel good at all for metal music for me and as for ableton i just couldn't even undertood how it worked and when i got my audio interface i got a free cubase AI LE with it and it was way easier to use and understand especially when it comes to record IRL instruments
and now i have the cubase Artist and i just can't use anything else
