Where do y’all practice screaming? I need some ideas.
I live with my parents and 5 siblings, and the walls are thin as paper. You can hear it from across the house.
There have been times I’ve practiced screaming, only to be told mum has a migraine/headache, or someone’s in a meeting, yada yada. Doesn’t happen all the time, but now I get paranoid, causing my throat to tighten and vocals to suffer, and causing me to practice very little.

I’ve thought about going outside, and I will in a bit, but that won’t work in the winter. Here in good ol’ Canada, we get -20C/-30C is not uncommon.

Maybe it’s about communicating practice times better? Probably.

I guess I just needed to get my thoughts out. If you have any to add, please do so.

I practice when walking my dogs, I have a big neighborhood so I walk for like 30-45 minutes just practices my screams as well as cleans. Made a lot of progress in my gutturals as well as highs this way, I can now hold a guttural for like 30 something seconds which I think is a lot. and then understand how important it is to use diaphragm for support, not your throat

using your throat will shred it and potentially permanently damage your voice

Tho there are people who's natural fry scream is low pitched like Peter Tägtgren and some who's is high pitched, say Devin Townsend.

With Tagtgren if you listen to Inferior Devoties and The Fourth Dimension, he does 95% Growls, then one year later, he did a black metal album (The Abyss) and he did almost exclusively higher pitched vocals, tho it did sound like he was damaging his throat a lot on that album, then Abducted by Hypocrisy happened, exclusively high vocals and healthy, besides a few growls on Killing Art and he even put effects on his voice there. so dont even count it.

Glen Benton from deicide is a good example of that too

Corpsegrinder too, just picked Tagtgren, cus you can actually hear his screaming progression on Hypocrisy, The Abyss, Lock UP and Bloodbath, even PAIN, tho thats 90% clean vocals

Benton and Corpsegrinder already could scream both ways with fry screams, before recording albums.

Tagtgren even became so good with high pitched fry screams, he has a few ways of doing it, his high screams for The Abyss, most Hypocrisy albums and PAIN are all different.

and its not like goblin or snarles or whatever, its completely different pitch.

Townsend too, big difference between his vocals on City and Alien/Ziltoid

and you can hear him discovering new things on SYL, Hyperaccelerated Evolution and Alien.

Then you have people like Chuck Schuldiner, think he used fry screams, but his scream got progressively higher pitched thoughout the albums.

which is unlike most people, as your voice usually gets lower with time, but RIP, we could never know about him.

Most Modern deathcore vocalists use False Chords for highs tho, i know Brojob does.

thing with false chord is, you can train it, its a muscle.

And i can say that for myself, begining of 2024, i could barely hold a mid false chord scream, now i do it regularly.
