My 9 string will either come next month or in 3 months Ibanez is shipping to batches of the new RG9 so mine is in one of those two batches.
Been about a month, but this is the newest member of the family. Officially joined the "half a guitar" club lol
tempting...
That thing is beautiful, wow
strandberg?
No actually, knock off brand called NK guitars, was pretty skeptical at first but the guy i bought it off of had put in some work and this thing plays like dream
neat!
how do headless guitars play? seeing as my next guitar is most likely going to be one
I love it, had to get used to tuning from the body of the guitar, but the bridge is legit hardware and the neck is cool it's thicker near the lower strings and thinner at the higher strings and the fretboard is roasted maple with wenge and padauk wood, so it's a really fast neck
Never played a headless before, but I don't think i'll go back

so how is tuning? that was marked as one of the issues for the legator i was looking at, i was told i might need a tool to access the pegs better
I like the tuners on this one, they're smooth, i'm going to keep them slightly oiled to keep them functional
But i haven't had the tuning change once and i've had it outside in the Canadian cold and back into warmth again
Reinvesting the challenge stream money I see 😎
yeah partly
oh excellent, didn't know that you were a fellow canuck

altho like i said the one i'm eyeing is a legator so it might be slightly different
one review the guy noted the tuners were incredibly tight, but i mean, you can oil them like you said so idk maybe he was just lazy
Yeah, and that's why QC on your part is key
If you can test it before hand it's incredibly beneficial
unfortunately i cannot
Better than me, I'm playing with the stock market with a tax Free ISA (Roth IRA to the American folk)
the only place i have found besides the actual legator website with the guitar is american guitar center
but all of the issues people have had are very easily fixed
Hey, you play it right, you'll be able to afford the Lambo before Caleb
NICE
like, oil the tuning pegs, uncrew/reposition/screw the pickups in, replace strings, change the action on the bridge, learn to play fanned frets
and like
i get wanting your shit to work out of the box and all but the issues people have are like, arguably something you should expect?
The projection for when I retire is 1mil so maybe with all the dividends and compounding 😂
like if my guitar shows up from another country and i need to do some cleaning up after it was shipped and (mis)handled
im not gonna mind
I would forego on Legator guitars man
That's always been my thinking, but i don't suggest doing deep repairs on a guitar if you're not experienced
They are notorious
There's also the notion that for artists and people with a public presence they likely get ones that have a higher level of QC etc than your standard buyer. Hence why some reviewers do a secret shopper type thing to see if they're the same.
i mean yeah, if/when i get it it's going to my luthier mutal friend to get the pickups swapped and a full setup
So seeing Berried Alive showcasing his insane Legator, they knew he would likely do that so reduced any negatives as much as possible, almost to an absolute zero
eh, from the reviews i've seen i think i'd quite like the one i'm looking at
Im sure this is the case for some, but I think many signature models do have some standard to maintain before big artists would tie their name to them.
the one reviewer bought a six string ghost (i'm going for a 7 myself) and one of the higher end signature models and basically the main difference was that he didn't like the construction of the ghost or the pickups and on the signature he commented that it came with fishmans so it sounded like every other guitar and also he didn't like the body shape
Yeah, this is very probable
which like
Especially since Legator has a huge QC problem.
literally that's all subjective
Uhm...
there were no actual issues he found with the ghost
aside from again, he felt like the construction wasn't as good as the $3000 signature model, and he didn't like the stock pickups
True. But take Jim Root for example, his stage/tour model white Jazzmasters are US spec with the compound radius etc. compared to the model you can actually buy which is Mexican made without the compound. There's also a weight difference and a few other differences I'm sure.
US Spec manufacturing will have the higher quality checks compared to the more affordable Mexican models
Yeah fair point. I think thats always gonna be the case when cheaper signature models are also on the market. I doubt Vai has really played that Jem555 or whatever it was that was a sub 800 dollar guitar.
Essentially though try before you buy and don't be afraid to send stuff back if it's not what you thought. Distance selling regs exist for a reason
I guess depending on the price it might be worth the risk if you really want it.
I wouldnt even buy a Abasi Larada Legion currently since for the price they should definitely get rid of any QC issues. I think any guitar thats above 800 or above should at least have a trustworthy reputation in that regard.
well for me the price comes out to about $1400 CAD
Geez
I dont know, maybe they have really improved on QC. I just find it such a bad business strategy to bum out on QC at first.
i mean my buddy who's friends with the aforementioned luthier has a legator that he got recently
and he loves it
altho i have heard that their quality control was lacking when they first started out they seem to have really cleaned it up
but yeah they did leave a bad impression on a lot of people
Yeah, even not long ago I heard their lower end models had a lot of tuning stability issues :/
i mean the ghost isn't their lower end model really
it's the, i want to say ninja? the one that actually has a headstock
but those are like 300-500 USD iirc
Afternoon all Uk bassist here! and a rig photo for context! Andy
the ghost is medium end unless you get one of the special ones that are made in japan instead of SK and come with fishmans and a killswitch
(and are also $3000)
Yeah, here the higher end Legators are 2200 euro's...
I would like to try one of the Japanese made ones
pretty sure any higher end legator is japanese made
and the rest are all SK made
and i mean hey my car and my main in SF are both SK as well so like, it should be fine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdeqqfTW3_Q
think this is interesting, seeing how pickups arent the gateway to perfect tone
And a viewer SWEARS that a Les Paul and an HSS Strat sound completely different. But when you take away the visual, are they REALLY that easy to tell apart? We put these two guitars though a rig that would make ANY. Tone Snob drool. You tell me!

got the Archspire Bleed The Future tabs
now I get to use my 8 string with a purpose
if u need any tabs i got ug pro so i can send pdf files if u want, free of charge
just obviously not like 100 tabs
but if you're looking for one or two i can see if ug pro has it and send the pdf here
i know its bad sometimes but somewhere to start 🤷♂️
Bleed the Fingers more like
Made some guitar picks from old plastic cards and a plastic box that used to contain butter (upcycling for the win ♻️💪) and made something to store them in too. The picks work surprisingly well haha

Thx bro
Alright this might be a weird question, but has anyone else gotten a small shock in their hand after playing?
Anytime I spend like 30 minutes practicing in higher frets (10-20) anytime I touch my computer mouse I’ll get a small shock in my wrist on my strumming hand. But if I stay in lower frets than I have no issues.
I don’t know if anyone else has had something similar/ knows how to stop this, I want to keep practicing but I don’t want to electrocute myself.
Alright so I've been playing 6 string guitar for a while now, into my fair share of deathcore, nu metal, modern metal stuff like that, but now I saw a sweet deal on an 8 string guitar and wondering if it might be the ideal tool to help me in my solo death metal work? Or do I modify a 6 string maybe? If anyone has experience with an 8 string and can let me know if it's suitable for my kind of genre/situation and what they're like I would really appreciate the advice
I mean it really depends on what you want to do, whether you want more notes and longer scales or just a lower more bassy sound because for that you dont need an 8 string
Well I'd like to have more range of notes, in lower and higher pitches
This...if you want heavier, dont go 8 string. If you feel like you run out of extensions on your arpeggio's, chords and scales and whatnot for the ideas that are in your head, an 8 string is pretty cool.
If it's about going heavier just get a decent pitch shifter
WhammyDT for life lol
Plus with the pitch shifter you can pitch shift up, I know gojira has a song where they do that. It’s a neat effect.
I don’t really play acoustic guitar and I wanted to play Boulevard of broken dreams but apparently I need a capo for that
L
Maybe I can use my pitch shifter to just tune it the same key
Damn it didn’t work I need a capo
B a r C h o r d s
It ain’t in standard tuning I think
You can get an instant black metal tone by turning off the cab in any amp simulator.
Noice
Bought my first 7 string boys 👀
A solid pick
I have a 6 string gio and I like it
I recently got a 7 string ibanez RG and I love it
Personally I wanted the schecter omen elite 7, but the Ibanez is what I could afford 😂😭
Yeah I feel you 😂😭
I feel like playing a 7 string is gonna be weird. I’ve been playing for about likkkeeee 9 years now? Only 6 strings tho, but damn do I want that DUN DUN CHUG CHUG RE RE UNGABUNGA caveman noises 😂😂
Which- in reality I could achieve with only 6 strings
Ernie Ball Beefy slinky
guys help, im gonna get an whammy pedal for my birhtday/christmas and i have no idea ho this works on computer. For context i use Amped Roots and i wanet to ask if i have to connect whammy pedal to amp roots, or can i just plug the pedal in and it works, hop u understand what i mean (pls ping me)
Guitar -> whammy -> interface -> amped roots for basic usage.
Can just use the controls on the whammy itself to do what you need. If you want to midi automate it though, you'll need a midi cable between interface and whammy as well then can send midi commands from a DAW or similar software. The commands you need would be explained in whammy manual
do u mean with midi automate like the online whammy pedals ?
Midi automation allows you to pitch shift automatically without touching the pedal. Similar to how Humanity's Last Breath and many modern bands use it. You'd have a DAW project file corresponding to a song you're playing, and it'd have a channel with midi commands that look similar to piano notes that tell the whammy to do like -4 downtune, +3 uptune, etc when it reaches a certain time in the song. It's more advanced usage but it means you can change tuning mid song multiple times without touching the pedal
ahhh okey now i get it, thank you for ur help :)
Best of luck
To ease your concerns, the Whammy's instruction manual goes over all that stuff at least sufficiently and there's tons of stuff on how to do what online
okey thanks :)
very late but I love that silverburst strat!
also, opinions on this idea? first time trying to metal
Also current lineup. Saving for an Ormsby Hype 6 GTR
I aesthetically love that schecter
how do you like the bridge on that tho? I'm very picky with floyds due to my past experience owning a few too many terrible licensed floyds
from what I have tried to understand about that schecter hot rod bridge, it's just an upgraded floyd rose special?
It's a bitch but works. Stays in tune when you divebomb (well since I just had it setup again) but takes a while to restring. I know the new 1000s are more up to date than the Specials, this one's from the 2010s.
ah right on, thanks
Yes. And I didn't like the EMG hot 70, swapped it for a SD Blackout Ahb-1 years ago and regret nothing.
oh right
Also the new Sustainiacs 2010s-present have no volume control on the neck so its full all the time on the neck, which is good for leads (what I use it for anyway). When the sustainiac is off it's an actually spectacular throaty single coil strat neck.
I actually need to adjust the bridge because it's too bowed, smh.
It's a lot of maintainence
but I play it all the time.
yeah I kinda don't like floyds a ton anymore
Definitely don't need another lol
Although this has to be my favourite guitar
maybe a strat with a regular tremolo bridge
What do the toggles to?
I was really looking into the schecter traditional pro model recently
besides pickup selector
they're for the pickups. the pickups don't have a selector switch
Never played it but Schecter make some of the best under 1000s.
I also have the CV-5 bass in that pic.
Not many brands besides maybe Ibanez give you custom appointments with such affordability.
Especially in their new lineups like the Silver Mountain.
I've never owned a schecter, I would like to try a model though
The Traditional Pro looks cool.
I would love either the sun valley super shredder, one like yours, or the traditional pro
a friend of mine has 2 synyster sigs
black and white
The SVSS even the FR S are kinda cheap on Reverb
I had the old black one with the SD Invader bridge but sold it lol.
Almost ready for the spray paint
building an explorer?
I shouldn't have, I had so many memories and learned a lot with it.
Nice
I want to build a guitar one day. One of those Stew Mac kits would do.
I just got this last month as a gift
Very nice gift
pretty cool guitar
Considering you like Ghost have you looked into the Hagstrom Fantomen?
about a grand
not a huge fan of them. I'd actually take an rd over a fantomen if price was not an issue
sadly very little Gibson RD style guitars out there, I love that body. I'm gonna get a Halo custom with that Defeater RD body one day.
I just have bad experience with gibson quality.
that's fair, I hear a lot of shit about gibson
Then again not a huge fan of Hagstrom either.
Yeah
Epiphones body some in QC lmao
I love explorers
the Les Paul Standard 50s and 60s are amazing for 600 new
Matt Tuck from Bfmv uses explorers
I just don't like how the fantomen looks. it's okay but it feels like a very clear immitation of an rd that just misses completely. weird pickguard, oddly proportioned body
I had a beautiful Hagstrom Viking hollowbody for a month but I just hated the feel and it needed upgrades too.
I mean ghost's lead player doesn't even play a fantomen anymore live
he moved to his personal strats
rip
that's unfortunate
about the feel and upgrades
Weird vintage tuning pegs, neck was WAY too thin for my liking too. Ig I just don't like vintage? It felt thinner than an Ibanez Wizard.
Pickups were bad too.
as someone who has an original 80s wizard neck, wtf
I don't know where the fuck this image came from, or who, but this is a photo of his 4 strats
Super Viking.
Lol this person wants 1200 for it new? I got it 600 used like earlier this year.
oh my god?
It looks great but that's all it's got. the playability didn't make it worth it.
I'd be curious about playing a fantomen somewhere, but I would really want to play one before I ever consider buying one. they just bother me with how they look
Are those seymour duncan noise cancelling?
Fair enough
these guitars are very modified strats so I wouldn't be surprised. a few of them have sustainers, they all have different bridges
some of them are schaller lockmeisters, some are vegatrems, some have been rail tails
black hardware
some of them appear to have ebony boards, but it could just be dyed rosewood or very well treated/conditioned
I don’t like Floyd rose bridges
look like Fernandes
or SD
It just doesn’t feel good and it’s hard to set up
I personally believe they are yes
I pay people to set up my FR for me. It is a hassle even to restring.
But I restring every 3-4 months.
I actually prefer the profile and feel of a FR
but I do not like them too much
for their functionality
Endless divebombs and tuning stability though.
I used that Schecter on that idea track I sent
Hmm what else do I have on that guitar
This my main guitar
Idk how old it is but it feels great
The Ibanez RG Genesis is one although HSH. I'd need to upgrade the pickups because I heard they're bad stocks, and see if I could coil split
I kind of want a single coil neck. But can't seem to find many HSS Ibanez.
I did this with the Sustainiac neck with it off/coil split. The lead then the clean
The stock pickups suck. I might switch it out for the ones I got on my other main guitar
Or no, the first half was the bridge + sustainiac on
Ibanez and Dimarzio seem to be a common pairing. I love Steve Vai's guitars and his custom pickups.
Yeah
The PIA3761 is a bucket list guitar
I don't really like neons but the JEMs and PIAs are fun.
That’s a lot of money
pia's are sick
Indeed. Worth though
Some of the JEMs are double or triple that
Like the 10-20k see through light up anniversary
most I see are 3-4k though.
The black and white PIAs are half that though.
I'd only use the whammy bar to master Bad Horsie. But I could do that now lol
@cyan sedge I might upgrade the tuners on my explorer that I am making
What tuners are you considering?
Maybe locking tuners
Cause I am using 10-52 for drop c
ah ok
Had a bit of fun
floyd as first guitar is possibly not the greatest, but still really cool
as long as you're able to manage it fine haha
I would've gone hardtail personally
yeah floyd just looks cooler lol and no worries i changed the strings it wasnt that hard
the b string did pop out 2 times but rather than that it was rlly easy
ah yeah I've had strings slip out of floyds. annoying as hell
truuu
this guitar is a second hand so iam thinking of changing the bridge
it has some like rust
go with a gotoh for a replacement bridge 100%
if you find them at the right place, they cost about as much as a floyd special, and I like gotohs more than actual original floyds
gotoh's are #2 in my tier list for floyd style trems
gotoh ge1996t
are gotohs better?
from my experience yes
I personally think gotoh does a better job than actual floyd rose and they cost like half or more than half of an og floyd
the thing is i dont think i might be able to find it in my country but i will keep in mind for sure
what do u think abt the pickups should i change them
i dont rlly like the sound that much tbh
that's fair
ah ok
Thoughts?
Is that a guitar body?
Dream guitar
Does anyone have recommendations for good guitars for around 600?
If you can find it on sale schecter cr-6
What type of guitar are you looking for?
is that the dan sugarman one
Yeah
Idk
One that can play metal well and isn’t a fender with humbuckers
Alright!!
Fender with humbuckers? 🤔
Yeah I am from the future haha
Single coils are getting hot now
Ah yeah, thats fair. I personally like strats a lot
Eh it isn’t for me
Someone just got their first 7 string
yooooo
Thought I drop this off here figuring the Axe Fx kids (like myself) or any modeler enthusiasts might be interested
I personally use helix native
I am overall interested in modelers
I've kinda wanted to try an axe fx
The older models go for cheap these days. Shouldn’t be hard to find one
yeah. 2's are decent?
they go for like 700 here
I'd be fine with that
a 3 is way out of my league rn
$700 is a better deal than paying $1700 lol
frfr on god no cap?
oh sorry I was confused. ultra's are 700, there's a 2 here in canada for 1400 cad
That’s still not bad
right on
I started out with the 2 but moved up to a 3 because….i got lucky lol
fair enough
as I was saying I personally use helix native atm
I don't have consistent money to buy an actual helix pedal. I could if I wanted to blow an entire paycheck and go broke
There is financing if your patient and know what your doing
Personally I like to trade to knock down a high price
I would prefer not because my job is really uncertain and I wouldn't trust myself with it. my money is based on percentage of a game from my indie studio. it's really not consistent at all
I probably would do something like that if I made more, or a far more consistent amount
and it doesn't help that I am my familys paycheck half of the time
Ivenez
Does anyone know how to darken a fret board
probably dye. I've seen people do it this way
That but red
Nope Blue on that looks to amazing.
I bet
This kind of blue?
does someone know the tuning for Bathed In Solitude - Termina ?
hey guys my guitar goes out of tune almost every 1 or 2 days and i have to use the fine tuners
is it normal on a floyd rose?
i dont use the whammybar at all
No, a good double locking system should stay in tune better than most non-floating bridges (unless its something like an evertune).
So theres something with the set up or maybe you forgot to stretch the strings?
floyds should not go out of tune at all. that's kinda what they were made for
your guitar has a really low end licensed floyd which is probably why you're having tuning issues
Or low end floating trem bridge could be a problem too.
I want a six string for metal that I can tune to drop D and standard
idk what to get
I want to play shit like metalcore and stuff and I want to pair it with a Digitech pitch shifter so I can go really low without having 10 seperate guitars on each tuning
and I want it to look cool
I want Niks Ernie Ball one but too expensive
Buy a Ernie Ball Sterling?
Its like the korean or indonesian made version of Music Man
Save some before spending on a guitar
currently looking at a Solar guitar
I don't make a lot of money
Solar Guitars is the way
looking rn
would this one be good
I like it
There's even some 7 strings for the same price as a 6
they have 8 strings too
I want a Schecter Damien 7
currently on sale on the schecter store for $749 so thats good
my only working electric has a floyd
the end of me
ive been stuck in E standard for idk how long
Then consider buying a digitech
I am
.
i'm gonna change my amp soon tho
what you looking at?
idk yet
I'm currently running a Boss Katana 50 MK2
but I mostly use my Spark Mini with some random premade tones cuz that's in my room
I just have a Fender Mustang I (V.2)
and a mighty plug pro (not sure if that counts as an amp)
yeah it's an amp
the most simple amps literally just amplifies the volume, that's the meaning of amplifications
so that is an amp
I have a 50 mk2
I don't use any of my amps anymore
such a good amp
Why not
I have a hybrid marshall head, mk2 50 katana, a peavey 212 combo, a few other small things
I use helix plugin now
thinking about the boss multipedal
ah so great
plugin warrior right here
Yep
like its literally on my fucking screen
The name speaks for itself
there's a test video link as well if i'm not wrong
plugins 4 lyfe ez
plugins dont satisfy
that's fine but that's absolutely your opinion
unless you have good speakers
They do imo
way better sound with a proper amp
yeah idk
yeah but you have to have decent speakers
I don't have thousands of dollars to drop on good amps all the time
also I just like having options with helix native
Def not the same
true I understand that
tru
If you plug your plugin in the return thing it won't have the tone of the amp as much as if you were to plug it in normally
I'm pretty ok with how helix native sounds
look past my sloppy playing, just listen to the tone
ye
sounds goood
aint that bad
beter than me 💀
see?
I never said they are bad
I said you should have good speakers to accompany them
or headphones
I have a JBL Tune710BT and it works pretty good
yeah they seem good
the only pair of headphones I have are gaming ones
my speakers are Logitech z200s
so cheap asf
Yeah they are and they have a great battery time when you are in Bluetooth (as someone who listen to music with headphones all day long)
I have a speaker but i almost never use it cuz i'm gonna get kicked out of the house if i play my favorite Infant Annihilator tracks
aha fr
The JBL i have are wired too
is it any good?
Oh btw i'm planning on drawing their logo
And for music?
that wont be easy 💀
never used it
i dont have a jack for it
3.55mm to 1/4" jack needed
ah i've already drawn Slaughter To Prevail, Lorna Shore, Gorepig and i'm currently doing Immortal Disfigurement
Oh what
damn can I see?
yeah cuz it's wireless it didnt come with one, there's a jack in the headset for it tho
all them?
bluetooth headphones should always come with a charger and a cable
alr
they mightve ive had them for a while
I probably have onme hiding somewhere
I will send them in #🎨-art tho
ty
cause idk if i'm allowed to send non guitar stuff in here
i dont think it matters too much
like a few images
but tbf others should see so post in art
i plan on drawing Infant Annihilator, Immortal Disfigurement and Signs Of The Warm soon
Love this band
idk how ur gonna draw them 💀
fr
Courage, patience and sense of details
fr
😭
the end feels good tho
i can imagine
not when i fcked up some parts but mostly feels releasing
aha
Infant Annihilator's logo is intimidating tho
Because it's just
Unreadable and the letters are very wide
yesah no clue how ur gonna do that one
eh
I'll figure it out when the time will come
oh btw i got this 20€ titanium pick recently
Do you understand pop picks?
I'm a bassist
so nope
Idk any 3mm plastic picks
oh fair
plus titanium looks good
idk what those r
true
a girl gave me a necklace with a pick on it
a few yars ago
i mean if a girl gives me a necklace pick i'm falling in love instantly
aha fr
idk if it would be weird to start wearing it again
ye
then kinda
not weird if you're interested in her tho
wdym
another girl
a really bad situation
it's more me than another girl
bad mental state
Objectively not the case, but I do get the appeal of a good amp.
Theres no proper sonic difference between a good modeller and a good tube amp.
And ive been playing quite expensive tube amps until relatively recently.
yeah ig
theres a forum post for feedback
So beautiful
Also I never played Solar guitar but there is one I really want!!Should I wait until Ola puts it on the everyday sale?Do solars do good and feel good
i have a 7 string solar S1.7APP and it feels amazing to play it's not a 2 serie like shown as 2 series are lower budget but i doubt the quality will drop by that much
i have an LTD version of jeff ling's sig of PWD and it feels nowhere near the solar imo
the jeff ling sig is 1k€ and the solar is 1.5k€
i think it's 1.6k€ for the solar now
Never played one yet but for sure plan on getting one (7 string)🤘🏻
the one i have is this one
So pretty
That type of green and bright orange are my favorite colors.
and it looks like this IRL
Are axe fox ultras any good?
So pretty holy cow!!
#1095992147968262144 message and here is how it sounds it's a link to a track i made and sent in #1095992147968262144
oh it shows the path when you post the link now nice
The 7 string is at the same price as the 6
I don’t know what to get then
Probably 6
Personally i'd get the 7 version
I like 6 more than 7
Chad move. I respect you
Yup I am such a Chad.
I know but that’s what I like haha
I mean i respect it but it can be a very hot take for some people
I know that ,It shouldn’t make anyone mad though haha.I do love my 7 string to
9 string is the most i'll get.. just to play the Doom Eternal soundtrack
thanks Daddy Gordon
tbh i used to play almost only on 6 strings but when i got my 7 strings solar i'm 24/7 on it
Lol does it play well? I'm interested in buying one
i said everything here if you want
gonna check
anybody have a good free plug in theyd like to share with me?
hey, i was wondering if i could get some opinions. i’ve been wondering when you guys started buying/using pedals. i’m coming up on a year of playing soon and i’ve been wanting to try some, however i don’t know if it’s too soon (also if you guys have any recommendations, lmk). thank you🩵🩵
Hi, depends what you wanna do or currently doing. If you are playing live it would be good to invest perhaps in something like a Line 6 Helix and spend the extra money. If you just gradually wanna get into pedals and effects something like an overdrive or perhaps a delay would be a nice start.
Better would be both and it doesnt need to be super expensive. Ive played for many years and if I play analogue I would still use a Boss SD-1 which is maybe like 50 dollars?
It's entirely dependant on what you want to achieve and what you're currently working with. Depends on whether you want to play live or not, whether you're playing on a physical amp and what features it has or if you're playing an ampsim, it depends on what you're playing and what tone you want to achieve but in general I'd say there's no real right or wrong time to get into pedals. You should at least somewhat know how to dial in tones with it but even that you can technically work around by just trying shit
Decided seeing as i finished the new bass i might aswell do a little Play through of the latest Moose Single!

oooh
Those Ibanez acoustics are solid. I have one as well...more traditional but has fishman pick ups
What amp do you currently have? Most people invest in the amp first as that's where most of the tone comes from. Then they use pedals to shape/control it better.
Iam a beginner and iam using a cheap sound processor u think i should buy a amp or keep using the processor?
It sounds alright tbh
I mean you can get pedals it was just something to think about
So i've had these axe guitar picks for a Few years now. I'm a self-taught guitar player. Just trying to get indo more technical stuff now. I started to realize that I think these pics are kind of bad for sweeping? Does anyone else have any recommendations on good pics for pet weeks like hybrid or sweeping? I kind of want to be able to do everything and need a solid pick
One of those self-taught things where I'm like. Do I need to suck it up in practice? More or am I pissing in the wind l o l
I use Jazz IIIs
This is my titanium pick
3mm on the grip part
are titanium ones any good?
I feel like they'd be hard to sweep with
I mean they look good and feel good but personally i don't like the tone they give
Idk about sweep pick tho i'm not good enough to talk about that
same icl 😭
that's a thiiyack boi

But no flex is good for sweeping
oh interesting I watched some video once he Said he liked a lil give. good to know tho
Is this normal
Your string said no more 0s
How does it even happen
Looks like core snapped and is hanging on by the windings. Maybe just from tightness over that angle
Just needs a string replacement
It was c# or standed slinky could I I’ve been picking to hard
The problem with a flexible plectrum is that a plectrum 'drags' while you want a fast attack for control
i had the same thing but on the nut of my 7 string on a 74 gauge string
it snaped like that after a bend at the 1st fret lmao
dude ive been looking for a good 7 string guitar in the 300-400$ price range that wasnt a jackson
just came across the s by solar thing
im
actually about to fucking explode this is so cool
ive always loved solar's body shape and that curved reverse headstock
and now i can get that for an affordable price!!!?!?!?!?!?!?
okay i know that price range doesnt sound like a lot but after conversion to my currency and shipping costs it really does add up to a lot
If your willing to do 100 more you can get a schecter
theres another problem
s by solar doesnt ship to my country apparently
i checked solars (the first one) and they do ship to my country BUT its 119$ 😭
This one work
doesnt ship here either
also id prefer if you could keep it around 300
because shipping costs on average are 50-100$
my other options are harley bentons or jacksons since those have the extra scale length that the solar one i just sent doesnt have
if i can get a good jackson id be set
but
i have to get a good jackson
which is impossible thanks to their amazing qc on their entry level guitars
Ibenez has one for 250
Sold my Ibanez RGDIM6FM (funny serial coded name am I right lol) over the weekend. Just fueling up for the ESP guitar I reluctantly bought.
Ibanez are great
only bad point is their CIHaj38Mzi8Ozma names
Why when always so long man
Idk dude
Like how am I supposed to tell some I want the Ibenez grtsi68-69wizp98
I think the first 2 or 3 letters are all your supposed to remember lol
the gios dont look that great + only 25.5 inch scale
thw solar one looked so good i didnt mind it
same canf be said here
Guitarists in the discord, I just made a riff that has a part that completely denys music theory and the key the rest of the riff is in. But it sound badass. Should I keep it in?
Who cares about music theory keep it
Maybe you only THINK it denys music theory
Maybe
Probably what @glacial osprey. Music theory is not a set of rules to which you can or cannot abide. It just gives a theory giving an explanation on why a set of notes or chords work well together
Alright thanks
Finally sold my Peavey 5150 III for a reasonable price.
i apologize i just saw this now. i use the fender mustang LT25
I'm curious about what hard case would be good for my new 9 string... I've just been running a gig bag as I won't be taking it anywhere all to much but plan to in the future.
If its an ibanez theres a recommended gig case on the website.
Just look for the guitar and than somewhere around the specs it should say that.
Especially with 8-9 strings Id just get the recommended gig case.
I did not know they did that... that makes that easier thanks.
Since we've had this guitar hanging on the wall, I had to try it out at least once through our in store rig.
PRS PV Semi-Hollow Special Citrus Glow into an ENGL Ironball SE through an Evh 5150III Stealth 2x12 cab
This popped up on my feed. I’m in love
that headstock makes me want to shrivel up and die
I take it Dean is out of the question
Their V headstocks are a bit much but the their Explorer headstocks are pretty cool
some dean shapes work with theire headstock
explorer, razorback, ml
their v's look terrible with that headstock
yall got any amp recos? not tryna break the bank but what a badass super versatile amp w great sound. so far have a boss katana mk2 100w, looking at a line 6 catalyst 200w 2x12 combo. any input or thoughts to help me out?
Sticking with a combo or going to head and cab?
would love a head n cab but its out of my budget as far as i know
every head i see is like 1000+
Hmmmmm try looking around Reverb. Look up brands like Blackstar, Marshall, and if you’re willing to push the budget just a tad: Friedman. If your really looking for that “badass super versatile amp” your either gonna have to buy used or suck it up and save up some cash. The best amps aren’t gonna be cheap unfortunately
thats fair.
i might just end up saving tbh but idk if i can buy everything i need in one go, hence why i asked for recommendations
You can always try financing! Some places offer Affirm or “pay as you play” deals. Its not for everybody but it’s one of the recommendations out there 🤷🏼♂️
i might check out financing
Which Archetypes are we buying on the black friday sale?
mesa boogie mkII has been convincing so far
gonna look at granophyre as well
and the soldano
If you wanna go for that one might as well gor for Petrucci and for the Soldano the Plini or perhaps even the Nolly
Granophyre is very good at the thing it does
My favorites are the soldano, nolly, and gojira
yeah i probably would go for the petrucci
haven’t tried the plini or the soldano yet tho
the nolly one didn’t exactly grip me when i tried it
Should apply it to the mix. It doesnt sound as good as some otherst standalone but sounds very very good in a mix. Same goes for Plini tho and might be more your jam
the distortion sound just wasn’t what i was looking for
plini might be better and i do listen to plini stuff so i know what to expect
mostly what i want is something with a more classic high gain sound than Abasi offers
possibly with some of the newer little bobs like the doubler and transpose
Also the blend function had be incorporated into Plini for the cleans
i haven’t heard of this, looks like i know what i’m doing once i get home
For recording guitar is there a way to reduce/eliminate the picking noise well playing the higher strings?
I have tried picking angles, different picks, grips and so on... It always cuts through.
what are you using to record your guitar?
Haven't really done any recording just what's coming out of my speakers... is it possible to eliminate it through a DAW, mainly what I'm asking.
I have only put a mic up to my speakers and been recording that been to lazy to record through a DAW or anything.
through a DAW you will only hear the direct input and any digital effects you add to that input
so yes
there will be no picking noise just the noise that the guitar makes
^
I like the sound of a little picking noise but usually it gets buried in a mix
whatever noise that comes through the signal ofc
Wouldn't my speakers be producing the direct input as well?
Just from getting away from the recording aspect and just reducing the noise, is it just always going to be there through speakers and only be eliminated in a mix?
Play it to a click and slow at first so you can get the patterns down smoothly then start getting it up to speed bit by bit.
I personally would change your tone a bit but that's up to you.
Metronome work is best.
Do you have a delay turned on?
Otherwise its a bit of a technique thing with most most modellers. You really need to put extra effort in muting
@toxic wharf also i wanted to try the imperial tone king nDSP, do you know if that one’s any good?
I was talking to @lethal fractal
Its very good for classic cleans
And a little break up
Just like granophyre and nameless its a bit of a 1 trick pny but great at what it does
Still get picking noise with or without it, clean or distorted... I gave no clue what I need to change with my technique as I have tried abunch of different things.
It mainly shows during tremolo picking up on the first 3-4 strings
Did you play around with the gain? I know what sound you mean. It might be the preamp of your interface but its also partially getting used to it and manage the muting
It might also be latency
You notice any latency?
Yes I did... I have my letancy set to around 7ms I believe.
It very well could be the interface as it isn't the greatest thing ever as you know but for now it's alright just could get annoying for recording, once I'm home I can record a little thing.
As well being brand new to neural DSP and all of this online stuff I could be just messing up stuff.
Yeah its not the latency. 7 ms is quite good
I could reduce it more I believe but I find I just barely notice it when playing its not enough to throw me off 10ms was to much but 7 is fine

Yeah, with some driver you can decrease it to 3 ms even
Here’s the new guitar I picked up for my bday. Used, Seymour Duncan Black Winter trembucker at the bridge, Floyd Rose (all I know about it), I forget the scale length but I believe it’s a 24 fret
$560 CAD sheckles
The pickup position switch is hell loose so I can only use both or bridge, and idk if it’s having ground issues or it’s just my amp but sometimes I get the nice lil tingly feeling unplugging the jack, which is also loose depending on the hour
All in all I love it very much and love shredding the bejesus off it
I just saw a bc rich go up for sale for 150 locally
I hate bc rich with a passion but part of me regrets not buying it
I managed to get this from the ad before it sold
i see cool guitar i want cool guitar
idgaf about problems tbh, i just like the looks
where i live most guitars are upwards of $600+ on marketplace and kijiji, even if theyre like $200 at long and mcquade
its so scuffed
Whammy bar noise, no whammy
Looking for some pickups, at a sweet spot between bloodbath and dark tranquillity. Anyone got ideas?
well for sounding like bands
you want an amp, not pickups
the amp and effects pedals are gonna get you the sound, and the pickups are going to fine-tune that sound
generally by reducing ambient buzz, hum, etc and also by affecting how strings ring out and the sciency things that result from that
Thx
i did the thing with the thing (first time ive gotten a half decent recording) (turn down the volume just in case)
Is your guitar Passive or Active?
doesn't matter, you can add a battery slot to a guitar
alternatively some guitars come stock with a battery slot even if they don't have active pickups, i.e. legator ghosts
I hated the concept of turning a passive guitar into an active or vise versa. If I was to buy a passive guitar I’d keep my focus on passive pickup selections. Same if it was active.
i mean i guess
Pain in the arse it can be changing out pickups too
i don't feel the same attachment but i also doubt i'll be swapping pickups like they're clothes
Only did it a couple times when I was starting out. I remember how bad I wanted to have a EMG 81/85 set lol
I was in the process of routing pickup slots, they're passive, body is going to be shaped like a jazz master and neck like an esp neck. I've decided on the pickups, a demazio titan neck pickup and a Seymour Duncan distortion bridge.
For the whammy pedal do i need to buy extra cables or are they included (pls ping me)
Nothing included, only the power supply. You´ll need a second instrument cable to go Guitar into Whammy into Amp(sim).
Depending on what you want to do you´ll also need a Midi cable but for playing like you´re used to with an amp just get a second instrument cable

seymour duncan should be good for that classic swedish death metal you seem to be going for
in terms of amp you'd be looking for something with high gain and a decently bassy distortion to get closer to bloodbath, or just high gain for DT - i'd try and look for what gear they actually use, and try and find it or it's modern equivalents
My baby
GUESS WHAAAT. I just got my first 8 string!
Welcome to the low tuned club.
Time to learn some Archspire
Or after the burial if you want easy stuff
I'm learning pennyweight by ATB
Very fun stuff.
love that song personally
give me! indication!
give me! separation!
i'm drifting into oblivion
First thing I’m learning when I get my 8 string is wolf amongst ravens solo
Why do I hate myself 0-0
I'm writing a 2 handed tapping rythm guitar line that's a polyrhythm between the two hands.
Bros a guitar masochist
Me and my guitar teacher call each other that... We make stupid cords where you stretch like 4 strings and like 6-7 frets
The stretch between frets on a 27 inch or 28 inch scale length isn't much fun.
Lol I can relate, me and my teacher tried to learn some chords that Allan holdsworth used and it was literal torture
Nice
Hey guys, i'm thinking about buying a 7 string multiscale guitar. My concern is about how hard it is to adapt to that type of scale and an extra string.
Any feedback appreciated!
i've tried a 7 string multiscale legator few years back when i was only playing standard 6 strings and tbh it was not that hard to adapt to but it may depend on your perception too plus the difference between the scale length wasn't that big 27" and 25.5"
i still don't own a multiscale guitar tho
mainly because of the evertune bridge
the day a multiscale evertune exist i'd gladly try a guitar that has it
@wind mauve Ive been playing around with the Abasi archetype. It takes some tweaking but its better than I initially thought
I do have to say that the cleans have become somewhat obsolete now the new Plini has the same Blend knob
Give it 5-10 minutes
5-10 minutes for the multi scale. 7th string depends on yourself and if you can get it in your head that you can still play it as a 6 string
Already exists. Aristides 7 for mike stringer
i've never seen an evertune on any of his multi scale guitars
Aristides just made one, lemme grab a pic
Saw this coming before anything was even announced. I love having friends in the industry that give me fun lil leaks like this before anyone ever hears about it
prepare your wallet bro
Oh that's for sure
The 070s evertune will probably be somewhere in the range of 4100-4700
i don't have that money

What do I do if I want to switch to a higher string gauge ?
Yo guys, idk what to do, it feels like my guitar playing sounds better without a pick. When I hit the strings with my fingers it sounds like I can hear every string but with a pick it sounds muddy and dull
Depends on the guitar
I have an cheap Ibanez 6 string
That doesn't help, imma need to know what bridge whether it's a hardtail or floating and what top nut
yeah it's got it's pros for sure but it's definitely for more non-standard and unusual metal tones
i've found that the lead amp, the green one, gets you the best high-gain distortion for like standard metalling
that's why i'm looking at the other nDSPs, i mostly just want something that's as versatile but has a more classic or standard sound
What gauge pick do you use?
Might want to focus on using the tip of the pick as well and just technique overall.
very diverse, sometimes I use 1.50mm and sometimes 0.58mm but on the thicker strings they both sound muddy
I have to say my strings are thick too I use 60-12
What tuning?
Drop A, B Standard and sometimes drop B
I’m assuming in a fender scale length
yea
I know that this is not very optimal
I thought about buying a 7 string or baritone
I was gonna say if you mainly play in drop a you should go thicker because I could be muddy bc lack of tension
But then again I like really tight strings
I’d almost say bump the lowest string up to like a 70
The issue then as well you can get strings that are tight but super thick and don't sound good either, jason richardson although plays really light strings.
Well not super tight
it might also be the picks I use, most of em are already flat or just don't feel right
I just woke up so being a bit overdramatic
That generally starts happening above 80s tho doesn’t it
I play 3mm picks mainly or 3.4mm, though I am playing on a 9 string as well... When playing on a 7 or 6 I play jazz 3s or the other pick like them that are a bit thicker.
You might be able to clean up some of it through your amp settings though I don't know what you have so can't say.
I play like 2mm and just hammer the shit out of my strings so me liking thicker strings is just because I play super hard, Jason Richardson probably plays lighter than I do so he can get away with lighter strings, I depends on how you strike your strings and how hard
May I send a recording I made with and without pick I think you will hear what I mean
It really depends on a lot... It does come down to play style though hard hard picking can sound really crappy.
We stopped by Jason Richardson's home studio for a chat about using lighter gauge Ernie Ball Cobalt and Paradigm guitar strings to get heavy tones on his signature Ernie Ball Music Man Cutlass.

first one is played without pick and after the short break I used it
Are you picking in the same spot with the pick?
yea
Where you pick can change the sound a lot... can change as well when palm muting as well where your hand is positioned on different strings well palm muting.
Where do you currently pick closer to the neck or bridge?
the neck I think
I try to put my palm as much to the right as possible so I avoid muddy sounds
When palm muting you want to be touching the bridge and the string (generally) there are times you want a different sound... Try picking closer to the bride I mean start right beside the bridge so you can hear what that sounds like as it removes low end. As well play with how hard you are picking and you can do the same well palm muting pick in different spots.
I'd turn down your drive and probably your bass levels on the amp.
Yeah, I was trying not to be overly extreme with my suggestions but if it was me I’d cut almost all bass
Well not all bass... want some tone. I generally play with bass at 8-10 o'clock mids and highs at 12-2.
It depends on the amp as well.
I need thicker strings for my 9 string... It came with 90 on the low end and its way to floppy going to get a 96 and 105 to see what I like better
Also thicker strings make intonating your guitar much harder
This is a video I like to go to...
Really? I think the middle amp is definitely the most suitable. I find the third amp to be suited for leads, but the gain is overbearing for proper recording purposes.
the rhythm amp is neat and i had some alright rhythm tones
but it sounds very, like, plucky? i think?
i can't describe it but the sound feels less like distortion and more like it's just very bassy to compensate
Hmm, I think it can sound plucky yeah. But so can the third amp.
i mean it's by design
Yes, its definitely a bit bassy!
but the middle amp just feels a lot more like
But you can use the high pass switch
"use this and single-coil and make some djenty"
And leave the low pass off.
I never use the low pass on that amp. Perhaps its cool for like thumpy tones.
and didn't use the bass on the distortion pedal
yeah thumpy thats what im looking for
it sounds very thumpy
like it's designed specifically for animals as leaders, which i mean it probably is but
I always dial down on any archetype on the 65 HZ and 4K
But the Abasi one is definitely more 'thick' on the lower end.
Ah yeah, good way to go about it is leave everything at unity and than go completely up and down on each of the parameters.
Its not too hard to figure it out.
i'll give it a go next time then
I think Abasi, Plini and Petrucci are now my favourites. I like Nolly a lot too, but current Plini does that with a better clean section.
i will have to try out the plini archetype
maybe even today
i also still want to try tone king, mostly because it's called tone king
and i want the greatest tones only so tone royalty should be right up there right
Fortin nameless is my fav
Lolz. It is very good, but very vintage - the Tone King
interesting
i actually tried nameless shortly after and felt like NTS was just a blanket upgrade on every feature of it
I think nameless is quite decent...but I dont understand why you would spend that amount of money when you have the archetypes that basically do that stuff and more.
mhm
yeah like i said im looking for the classic metal distortion style so gojira or petrucci is probably what i'm looking for
plini might surprise me tho
That third amp from Plini is like a victory kraken I think
Think it was the Nolly and Rabea that had Kraken-alikes
Nolly has a modded Victory of some kind in his archetype
I think the Plini one has not explicitly stated which amps it was modelled on.
But the third one really looks a lot like the kraken.
For Nolly Im sure the 4th is a Kraken and the third a modded 5150
Guessing those amps is pretty fun tbh
John Browne did a recent Kraken MKII review

Such a classy looking amp
If you want to watch him beat the living crap out of his strings in gain 2
I have a Super Kraken and it's so lovely
Have to use a Two Notes Captor X so I don't scare my apartment neighbors
I used amps with my previous bands, but if I will ever play live again Im going modeller
It was just too much to drag that thing on stage everytime.
that sounds exactly like what i want
oh shit the slamurai pedal too? i really want one of those
really really
but idk if they work with audio interface/VSTs so
but yeah if plini's distortion amp sounds like that im gonna fuckin love it
Krakens are sweet. Rabea did great helping design that amp line. Lovely modern gain thats good for extended range but also has good classic gain and pushed clean sounds
How can I see thag
just send a picture of the bridge and we'll be able to tell you
you said it was a cheap ibanez so it's probably a hardtail like mine
Non floating trem
Thx
Take it to a tech, he'll need to cut the slots on the top nut of your guitar to accommodate the larger thicker strings
@toxic wharf you know what? i'm liking this a lot
this is just some noodling so don't critique it too harshly
but i feel like it's some decent trivium sounding tones
Ty
Does anyone here use Reason to record guitar?
I dont even know it lmao
The closest i have in my mind when i read it is Reaper but never heard or reason
Yeah the tone could use maybe some less low end but you can achieve a lot
tbf im used to bassier sounding tones
broooo i want this so bad
Well I have started my journey on learning this
https://youtu.be/hTshhL-OVLw?si=mrCfylrrFL34zmcN
I'm also writing it all out in sheet music to practice both reading for guitar and transposing.
Then going to try and figure out the cords and add those.
I would assume its E standard
I was given some stuff from my uncle, got a guitar that I plan on modding, but I also got this pedal.
I think it sounds really pretty tbh.
May need some advice on what string gauge I would need to get to drop g# on my six string
Would these work?
to me it seems ok tbh but it also depends on the scale length
maybe it can be a bit sloppy but still it's personal preference
i use 11-54 for drop A# but i'm it's what i usually use for drop C and want to switch to 12-56 when i'll get the new 6 strings i want
tbh the ticker string might be ok but the thiner ones can be sloppy
and my 7 strings which is in drop F# on a 26.5" scale length has a 74 gauge for the low F#
We sold 11 of these when they released it
I wouldnt play G# on any regular 6 string. It will sound terrible. Thick strings muddy up the tone real fast. Combine that with loss of string tension amd its recipe for 💩
There are some pickups that can fix that
Im very sceptical about that. Even downtuned extended range with modern fluence tends to terribly mud up at a certain point. Low interval limit is a real thing amd no pick up is gonna fix that
You should see Seymour Duncan jupiters
You would either need a baritone to keep it somehow in check
So your saying theres pick ups that defy physics?
You'd need a tight, relatively thin string to keep a soundwave in check
No, I'm saying there are very ice picky pickups that can clear up G# as long as you have the right strings
That's why I'm suggesting SD Jupiters
Homie. This is my job, we've experimented a lot with this stuff.
But its a pick up. Its not gonna change string tension or string gauge
Yeah still not buying it. It doesnt change the soundwave
The Seymour Duncan jupiters are extremely tight and very much mid and high fr based compared to most pickups. It's an incredibly articulate pickup compared to the nazgul or pegasus
The string will move in the same waveform. No pickup is gonna change that property
You can get thick strings to sound tight with the correct pickup
That's a guarantee
You can correct it to a certain degree, but drop G# on a standard scale length with a thick string..no pick up is gonna make a huge difference
Yes, there are pickups that will.
Pick ups can change some tonal quality but they dont have superpowers
No. Im trusting basic physics on this
