#Training Mats Upgrades

Training mats in Marvel Strike Force are no longer aligned with the game’s actual progression, and this has quietly become a major source of unnecessary friction.

This isn’t just a request for 'more mats,' or an endgame complaint about orange resources. It’s a structural issue. MSF has expanded vertically over time with higher level caps, higher gear tiers, and sharply increased XP requirements, but the training mat system itself has remained unchanged since launch.

When the game began, green, blue, purple, and orange training mats made sense. They matched the level ranges and gear tiers available at the time. Since then, we’ve added teal gear, red progression, and much steeper XP curves, yet training mat XP values have not scaled to match. Character XP requirements increase exponentially, but training mats do not. That imbalance doesn’t create meaningful challenge, it creates friction.

The result is that roster growth becomes artificially constrained. Players are pushed into leveling only mandatory teams, while experimentation and roster depth suffer. That’s not difficulty; it’s a system that hasn’t kept pace with the rest of the game.

A logical solution would be the introduction of higher-tier training mats, such as teal and red, earned through appropriately scaled challenges or events. This wouldn’t speed progression beyond intended pacing, it would modernize an outdated system so leveling characters at current caps doesn’t require exponentially more launch-era resources.

The same issue applies to monthly gold and training mat events. Rewards that may once have felt impactful no longer meaningfully offset modern upgrade costs. For endgame players, a few hundred purple mats, a couple of orbs, and around five million gold barely slow resource depletion.

This isn’t about making the game easier. It’s about aligning a core progression system with the game MSF has grown into.
