Playing in Defensive mode offers a lot of fantastic options for passive players. You will take reduced damage, cannot be executed, lassoed, or tackled. People in defensive mode cannot receive critical headshot damage from other players or even be locked on via Aim Assist. However, if a person in Defensive mode becomes aggressive towards others their hostility will increase and be switched to Offensive.

It’s basically to help prevent people from being “griefed”

So what I've seen people do is go defensive and pull out explosive arrows and rush people

If they kill someone while in defensive they'll get kicked out of defensive and get a hostility penalty, making them unable to get into defensive for a few minutes.

Hunting is decent for cash imo, You can also do stranger missions and wait for the timer to be on 30 seconds to finish it for the maximum amount of XP & cash.
Anything earns xp basically, Daily objectives/Stranger missions/Showdowns/Freeroam Events
