@low bone I've only cleared about 20 hideouts and have one treasure map to show for it. That was before any patch. I don't feel the droprate was high for treasure maps though, so I don't think they would decrease it further.

Besides, following @marsh dirge tip regarding turning in stranger quests as late as you can, is an ASSURED way of gaining xp, gold and cash.

#

Like I wrote earlier, I got 0.24 gold, 26 cash and 540 xp for a 20 minute, return wagon, stranger mission.

#

And if you are concerned with griefing, join a free roam session to a region as far away from the region you actually want to go to.
Then fast travel to your desired destination.
Choosing free roam {REGION} will put you in a lobby where most players are in that region.
