(2/2)
Battery: I understand why I sometimes have to charge the laptop from 5%-100 4 or 5 times a day, (usually 3). Now the 16 in theory has 25% more battery capacity. So should need to be charged less. It also can charge MUCH harder.
Although the 14 can “see” a 140W type-c charger (20v @7A … not USB PD spec of 5A, even with a charger that can do 28V 5A MBP wont request 28V …) the 14 [12C] will pull in around 90w with about a 1C charge rate into the pack, (70W-ish)
in theory the 16 can charge much harder with it larger battery nearing 100W pack input (?) so that will help a TON with waiting on the unit to charge back up mid day.
Performance: chip dependent, the MAX chips will preform better but also pull 50W sustained, vs 35W. Tho setting fans to full blast does allow my 14 to hold 45W,
nevertheless I think I just need to narrow down that balance of what I want to spend time wise waiting vs budget.
As much as I ADORE the 14, I don’t think I like it enough to leave performance I pay for on the table. I am thinking a 16 might be the play if a MAX makes sense. I already run native resolution to get the most screen space (lol see screenshot) I do change it down depending on what I am doing.
I know m5 PRO/MAX are “coming soon”, with that in mind if I find a good deal what combo should I look for? with the video stuff looks like a M5 with more memory would be best (assuming the pipe size doesn’t bottle neck it), but I often find myself CPU limited rather than RAM so that sounds a bit silly to do a M5/ 32GB, those that have owned the pro 14C or MAX 14C or 16C. What sis you come from and did it help reduce the time sitting around waiting for tasks to finish?
