Hi, so recently built a PC and put it upstairs away from my router. Ping in-game is fine (like 25/30ms) but download speeds over WiFi are like 15mbps (seen it drop to 0mbps many times) - takes FOREVER to even download a 2gb update on a game.
Was thinking of using a long ahh ethernet cable over 20 metres. Is this a good shout ?
Downstairs on my ps5 I easily get 200mbps downloads

I've heard people saying CAT8 Is bad for long distance and to go for CAT6A instead. How true is this ?

cat8 is just overpriced

#

it’s functionally a useless spec

#

there isn’t a single rj45 port you will ever see above 10g

#

so it being rated for “40gb” is useless

#

just get Cat6a

cat6a is the most anyone ever needs for ethernet

#

cat6 is fine for most homes as your runs are rarely more than the 55m maximum distance at 10Gbps

any overly long runs should be cat6a, anything under like 10ft doesn’t matter anyways

#

you can fairly easily run 10gbps on cat5e at <10ft

#

just never buy anything below cat5e
