#Doom Eternal Vram issues

I'm trying to play some Doom Eternal in preparation for the new Doom release and the game will work fine until it hitches and starts running at around 10fps. After some Reddit searches, I have found that tabbing out of the program will momentarily fix the issue and after looking at task manager data, it looks like my dedicated gpu memory slowly climbs while playing the game until it maxes out and starts running poorly. Pretty much all of my search attempts say that I need a better graphics card, but I do not think this is an issue. I'm running an RX 7900XT 20gb, 32gb ddr5 ram, and an i5-12700k. My graphics drivers and windows are all up to date, and I've tried restarting my pc and disabling discord overlay.

Sounds wrong... I have a 3070 with 8GB of dedicated GPU memory and am playing it right now getting 60-80 FPS range with 4K on ultra graphics settings

#

granted it is using all the VRAM but no major hitches to speak of, RT on HDR output (not that the latter should matter much)... if I bring the overall settings above "ultra" to "nightmare" can see it's over the limit of VRAM I have physically available so is going to be at the least dipping into regular RAM at that point

I'm only tring to run 1440p nightmare without ray tracing, it says I should be using less then 8 gb total, it's just bleeding vram somewhere

hmm would kill any/all background stuff and see if it's still happening, turn it into the DOOM machine 😄 can't say I've seen like big memory leaks from playing it or leaving it on overnight or anything though

#

not sure if AMD/ATI has any sort of specific profiling tools or way to see per process GPU memory/processing utilization but that would help narrow it down

captured the moment I tab out of the game

Hrm yeah I mean what you're describing is just like a *memory leak" where some process keeps allocating memory but just never frees all of it and slowly uses it all, switching windows could trigger some kind of garbage collection mechanism

#

You got updated vid drivers?

#

Looks like they did some updates related to Vulkan recently and doom uses it so might be relevant

according to amd adrenaline, all my drivers are up to date
