Hello I'm looking into getting a MacBook on the cheap side just for school purposes as I have an extreme pc at my house so the laptop would be only a school or mobile use case I've been looking based on specs and I've stumbled upon what I think is the deal of an amazing time the 2014 MacBook core i7(3.0Ghz) 16gb 512gb(SSD) I have found this MacBook for $220 (U.S. before Tax) and I know they have stopped updates for this year but I've heard there are programs out there to let you continue to update on the newest software so if anyone knows about that and the process I would love to know more and if anyone has used this specific MacBook how was is, was it slow at all, the typical questions I've had my fair share of crappy laptops and I'm trying to avoid it Thank you for any tips in advance!!!

For the love of god don´t buy any 2014 computer in 2024 even if its a Mac.
First ask yourself if you absolutely need a Macbook because of some Mac specific software. If yes, then at least get the M1 even if its second hand.
If you need extremely long battery life, then again either the M series Macs or the new ARM Windows machines, but those are going to be expensive.
If you just need a cheap but workable laptop then try looking for companies in your country / state that sell refurbished corporate laptops. You can find some reasonably high quality notebooks that are usually 3-4 years old that will probaly last you for years being sold for $200 - $500. Lets say things like Lenovo Thinkpad T480 or HP Elitebook 850 G6.
