I have an ROG Ally Z1E and when in the default turbo mode that activates when plugged in the temps immediate go 95 degrees C+ and it thermal throttles, causing the performance to drop massively to where it is completely unusable. The silent and performance profiles do not have this issue. This seems like a massive problem and I’m wondering whether this is specifically an issue with my device? I have seen people online discussing making custom fan profiles and such to have a functioning 30w mode but surely the default turbo mode shouldn’t instantly throttle? I have tested this on Beam NG, Minecraft and Expeditions: A MudRunner Game and this has been the case in all of them.
#ROG Ally Throttling Issue

Yup, that sounds like your unit's broken
I made a custom profile and dropped the 10 second and 2 minute power limits to 30w and boosted the custome fan curve to max and then worked it down and in the same place in Beam NG where Turbo mode had it 96 degrees C and 20 fps I got it to 82 degrees C and 65 fps
I have heard that the Turbo mode by default has those 10 second and 2 minute power limits at max by default which are like 50 something watts and 43w respectively which isn’t usually necessary for gaming loads and massively increases thermals so I moved them down. I don’t understand why this is the case though if it’s usually that bad unless my unit just has especially bad thermals for some reason because even with 100% fans all of the time I couldn’t get more than 20fps in games with those max short-term power limits on because of the temperatures thermal throttling everything. This specific unit is one of the newer revisions as well and not one of the older ones that had other the other issues like the SD card overheating I believe.
It would be nice to know if anyone else with an ROG Ally has tested these specific games with Turbo mode and has/hasn’t had the same issue.
RMA or replace the thermalpaste
