I know the title sounds like a duh that possible but there is more. I have my main system with 1000W power supply and then a dell optiplex. I am for a temporary project I am trying to see if i can put a 2060 into the optiplex but use the main system power supply since the OptiPlex doesnt have any pcie power connectors. I know this isn't a smart idea but I am wanting to see if it works before i let out magic smoke.

Yes, you can

#

You just need that little guy and you’re good to go

What does that do though?

From my understanding this would sync the power supplies to turn on at the same time using the 24 pin. I still need the 24 pin for my motherboard. Ideally both systems would be running at the same time

Okay so the dell molex would go into that adapter, “telling” the other psu to turn on (who’s 24 pin is plugged into the adapter)

#

you attach a spare molex power connector to the adapter from the main PSU, then you plug the 24-pin from the secondary PSU into it. When you turn the computer on, the main PSU powers the adapter, which sends a signal to the secondary PSU to also turn itself on. It'll turn itself off automatically too.

I need both 24 pins for each motherboard

All good. I still appreciate the help

You’re best just buying another psu imo,

You 'could' get what you’re talking about to work but you'd have to turn everything on and off in a particular order. If you didn't, having the GPU power down prior to the slot powering down could lead to damage to the board or GPU.

Such as having the 1000w psu on before turning on the optiplex system?

#

Essentially having the 1000w being always on.

It’s fine but not great

#

You’d probably be fine since it’s just temporary

Thank you a bunch. Have a good day
