here's my original post on r/buildapcforme with some more information https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme/comments/1ayey8c/single_player_gaming_and_parttime_plex_server/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
i'm kind of waffling about spending all this money on new parts instead of looking for a used system. like, i don't need the latest and greatest, i just don't want to be in a situation where i'm limited by the computer's capabilities. i know i want something that can chew through graphics heavy games at 1080p ultra settings without breaking a sweat, but i don't think i need to be gaming at 4k 120hz, ya know? i have a 4k 120hz capable TV, but like... i'm gonna be sitting 10 feet away from it so will i really get that much of a benefit from gaming in 4k?
also i don't even know how heavily i'm even going to be gaming. i keep buying things and not playing them, like... yeesh.
i guess my question is - if i'm a first time PC builder/buyer, and money isn't tight, should i just spend the money on a USD$2k build and not have to worry about parts compatibility or upgradeability or warranties? or is it really worth it to scour the internet for a used machine and do all the cost analysis and risk assessment? lately, where's the sweet spot?
) so maybe i should just hook that up to an external GPU and a NAS or something?
