#Got locked out of laptop cause of BitLocker
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
If you signed into your Microsoft account previously, you should be able to get it from your Microsoft account under Devices > your computer name
can't find the recovery key
the account logged in was a school account
now the account is inactive and deleted after a long time of not being used
that can be a real problem.. If you can't access your MS account and don't have recovery code that means you cannot access your data since it's encrypted.
real
I went to a service center and they gave me only 2 options
- Full Reset, resulting in completely losing all data and installed apps
- Find the recovery key by giving them my account credential, which is pointless because the account doesn't exist anymore
wanna go for the reset but it just doesn't work
Skip this drive :
Continue (Exit and continue to Windows 11) = return to starting BitLocker screen
Use a device (Use a USB drive, network connection, or Windows Recovery DVD) : EFI USB Device, EFI DBD/CDROM, EFI Network (Didn't try yet)
Troubleshoot :
- Reset this PC (Lets you choose to keep or remove your personal files and then reinstalls Windows : Opt 1 doesn't work as well as Opt 2)
- Advanced Options :
a. Startup Repair (diagnose windows issue but results to nothing)
b. Startup Settings (Didn't try yet)
c. Command Prompt (Gave lots of shot to many command lines, no results whatsoever)
d. Uninstall Updates (Doesn't work)
e. UEFI Firmware Settings (Only tried changing secure boot from Enable to Disable to Enable again, no results were seen)
f. System Restore (Can't use this Opt as the laptop never made a restore point before)
in short: you cannot 'restore' - you need a clean new install with installation media (like USB/DVD)
i usualy use "diskpart" and just clean the drive in another PC and then start from zero
