the thunderbolt will not be natively on the motherboard

tender elbow
#

What does that mean? Is it routed through the chipset?

verbal locust
#

it just has a header on it for connecting to a thunderbolt pcie card

#

am5 does not have thunderbolt ports on the board

#

usb 4 can be used as thunderbolt 3 though

tender elbow
#

well, that makes no difference for my use-case

verbal locust
#

question though, why do you need 10Gb ethernet?

tender elbow
#

i have 10gbe wan and internal network

verbal locust
#

that proart x670e creator does not have an x4 slot

#

its 1 x16/2 x8, and 1 x16@x2

tender elbow
#

but it does have 10gbe

verbal locust
#

yes

#

the gigabyte x670e Aorus Xtreme has an x4 through the chipset

#

if 1 of 2 m.2 slots connected to the cpu is used, the x16 slot will drop to x8

tender elbow
#

indeed, but it's also significantly more expensive

#

500euro for pro-art vs 700 euro for aorus

verbal locust
#

what do you need the x4 for

tender elbow
#

i mentioned that in the OP, i need the x4 for a 10gbe network card if the mobo does not have 10gbe

verbal locust
#

oh

#

then the proart is fine

#

since it has 10Gb

#

unless you want to look for a cheaper motherboard that you can add a nic to

tender elbow
#

yes, that's what im looking for, cheaper alternatives

#

i already own a 10gbe nic

verbal locust
#

do you have any other preference for motherboard? m.2 slots, etc?

tender elbow
#

not really, one ore two nvme slots are fine with me

#

already mentioned all the critical specs in the OP

verbal locust
#

the AsRock x670e PG Riptide and Steel Legend
the MSI x670 P wifi, and x670e Tomahawk Wifi
all have x4 slots

tender elbow
#

thanks, looking into them right now

verbal locust
#

AsRock usually tends to have kinda mediocer io on the back. the pg riptide has like 6 usb 2 ports, 1 usb 3.0 port and 1 usb c port

#

i didnt check them for usb c, but they all have usb c 20Gb

tender elbow
#

raw throughput is not critical, it just need to be stable

#

oculus link only needs 2-300mbps
