mine is from the 70's, its been in much better shape before but its still up. we have no heating and our plumbing is sketchy at best, yours probably wasn't built as well if it failed now. (or at least the wiring part) or someone tried pulling too much for too long.
Cable management is a job everyone hates. we get it, but its REALLY important in a house to have it neat, i thought they'd know this stuff.
changing schools even if its temporary sucks.
shouldn't need to be there very long anyway.

sounds like something shorted and the breaker wasn't properly rated for the wiring it was protecting, so it was burning long before you heard it trip
