#DVD Drive seemingly killed my Dell Precision 3660

PC Specs:
Dell Precision 3660
Mobo: Whatever it is that comes with this model and the 13500
CPU: Intel i5-13500
RAM: 2x8GB DDR5 4400Mhz
GPU: Came with no GPU, but I installed an A750.
PSU: Dell included 1000W PSU
SSD: Dell included 512GB M.2 SSD

Issue:
This is a new Dell workstation. I decided to install an old DVD drive cause why not (worst idea), and it was a DVD drive from the old Dell workstation.

It worked, but after moving it from my work area where I do my hardware shenanigans, to where the PC would sit usually, it no longer boots. It boot loops and now does not POST. This is even after I removed the DVD Drive

What I've tried:

  • One RAM stick/RAM sticks from working systems
  • Reseat CPU
  • Reseat all connections
  • Stripped the PC of SSD, GPU, and tried booting with only 1 RAM stick
  • Tried power cycling it multiple times

Some conclusions and other weird behavior

  • The PC would immediately start trying to boot the moment the PSU is plugged into a power source.

  • The PC does not display any debug light. It either flashes white or is solid white. No amber = no debug code?

  • I am asssuming it is either the PSU or Mobo.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be open to hearing them. I might not have listed everything I've tried. I would prefer not needing to return this to Dell because it would take a while for them to get another system back to me.

Did anything happen while you were moving the computer around? Bump it into anything, etc? It's pretty unusual that installing a DVD drive would cause this behavior, even after removing it.

I did check for anything that might've come loose. It's unlikely though because the DVD drive just slides into the drive area and clicks in

It might be worth resetting the BIOS with a CMOS clear.

Right I did do that, one of the things I forgot to mention

Man oh man, that's bizarre. Given it's a Dell though, you might have to let them service it because this is highly unusual. Something may have been physically damaged during the move, or a fault in the DVD drive sent current somewhere it wasn't supposed to go.

Yeah I think its the latter

It's really strange that I'm not getting any debug lights

#

Oh well. GG this optical drive just nuked my system

Got to admit, this is why I love this Discord and the LTT forums. Y'all give me some real headscratchers
