This weird banding has shown up on my monitor screen and I'm not sure if this is an hardware or software issue. I currently have the monitor plugged in via display port and the banding shows but not as severely unless I open up a specific game like black ops. When I switch over to HDMI the banding shows up way worse and I'm starting to worry if it's a hardware issue

Do you have another device to try ? (A console, another pc/laptop) to rule out the gpu ? Other idea, did you move it recently ? LCD are very sensitive to pressure on the bezel, especially wide ones (and curved), try to apply light pressure on the left/right sides of the display (bezel) in line with the lines. Other weird idea, try with other refresh rates to see how it impact the issue (the switch from dp to hdmi may already come with a different refresh rate)

Alright I'll try all those methods and report back to you on my findings

Okay so I tried switching the refresh rate from 60-170 and it seems the banding is worse from 120 and under. Next I tried applying light pressure to the monitor close to the banding and doesn't seem like much is amiss. One thing I forgot to mention is the monitor is connected into a laptop that I am using as a second screen and there isn't any issues at all on the laptop screen

I can try connecting the hdmi output to a TV next and see if it shows

#

Okay so I connect the HDMI cord to my TV and it seems the banding is a monitor issue

#

Oh boy

#

Does this mean this is an hardware issue?

Probably. I’d try another device on the same monitor anyway just to be sure there is nothing weird with the laptop (driver+config issue clashing with some parameter on the display, maybe restore default just in case) but that’s a very optimistic scenario at this point.

I can try plugging the monitor into my steam deck and checking

That would be useful

Yup just tried it and it seems to be a monitor hardware issue cryasf

#

Guessing at this point it'd be better to find a cheap used monitor

#

I'm not even sure how much a repair shop would charge for a monitor repair

Those lcd replacement panel may not be too expensive then (bigger resolution and dimensions panel often cost as much as a new screen).
Depending on the place you got it, and the manufacturer rules I try them first.
